Heads Or Tails Tuesday *Train*

One of my favorite bloggers, Skittles has started a Tuesday meme. It is LOTS of fun-so you'll wanna join us right away! If you click on the Heads or Tails logo - it will take you to the post to tell you more about the meme.

This week's topic is Train.

I'll tell you a story (cuz I like to tell stories)...

One of the less expensive ways to get back and forth between Ohio and Missouri is the train. Other than the layover in Chicago, it is usually an enjoyable trip, in my opinion. Well, when we were having our farm auction, my poor brother-in-law was stuck on a train, and my poor uncle-in-law was stuck running back and forth to the train station to see if the train had come in yet.

My brother-in-law was coming back on the train for the auction. Not only did he want to be with the family, but since he was moving back, he wanted to bid on a tractor. (Yes, our family basically did a switch-a-roo between states... we came out here, he came back from out here... but that's another story LOL).

Anyway, my b-i-l was supposed to arrive at the train station at 3 a.m. My generous uncle-in-law volunteered to pick him up from the station. So, u-i-l gets up and goes to the train station at 3 a.m. and there was no train. No problem, maybe it was running a little late. He waited... and waited... and waited. He came back home and went back to the station. He made several trips back and forth, and he finally was able to get a phone number to call and check on the train, rather than driving back and forth.

Meanwhile, my b-i-l is sitting on the train and losing patience. They were told there was a fire on the tracks. They had to wait so long that my b-i-l had to call my s-i-l's husband and ask him to bid on the tractor. My b-i-l did not arrive at the train station until almost 11, and got to the farm auction when it was almost over! It was an almost 8-hour delay, and, trust me, my b-i-l was NOT a happy man. He said when the train finally went through the area where they said there was a fire on the tracks, the fire had been way back away from the tracks and the train wouldn't have come anywhere close. We told him it was better to be safe than sorry, but at that point, he was NOT in the mood to hear it.

It is now a standing joke in the family, that whenever we say we are going to come back to visit, my aunt-in-law will say "Oh, are you taking the train? I'll send my husband to pick you up from the station!" (that's the poor uncle-in-law who got up at 3 a.m. to eventually, after several trips, end up picking my b-i-l up eight hours later!) I'm not sure which one of the two men had the worse end of the deal that day!

What a great story! I would go crazy being delayed that long!
Happy Tuesday!

First, I love your Heads and Tails. You are an awesome writer.

Second, I didn't forget about the meme. I'll try to do it asap. :) Thanks for tagging me. I'm not always this slow. LOL

great story!! Have a great Tuesday.

poor guys, I guess both of them got a bad deal :)

That's a great story. It's nice that everyone has a sense of humor about it now!LOL

Well, that certainly takes the romance out of trains!
Happy Tuesday! :)

great story...fun to laugh at now...at the time I'm sure it wasn't quite as amusing...smile.

The Gal Herself

That must have been soooo frustrating! But you did get a good story out of it, and it's nice that you all can laugh about it now. (Thanks for stopping by my Heads/Tails)

What a great story - and very vividly told. Delays are endemic to the British railway system. One favorite excuse for delays, is leaves on the track. Happy Tuesday!

I have never traveled by train...and after this, I may never :-)

Happy Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday!

What a great story. Have a good Tuesday.

"Other than the layover in Chicago?"

That's OK... I can see where Union Station may not leave the greatest impression of our fair city.....

Nice story.

What a great story! :) I can only imagine how mad I'd be if I were delayed on a stopped train over 8 hours! I really can sympathize with your b-i-l! :)

Ha ha ha! Oh, that was a great one. I love those internal jokes!

Yes, you've got it right: just post your "Share Your Scare"-post and come back and leave the link on Thursday - and enjoy the others :-)

Or dig up some old ones, that's fine too :-)

Welcome back - even for the "How do you celebrate Halloween" on Tuesday the 30th and he big Halloween Party the 31th!

We'll have some screaming scary fun =:-O

Deb - Mom of 3 Girls

That's a great story! But I'm sure it wasn't feeling that way back then waiting for the train... :)

Oh, what a story! Poor guys.

Fantastic story! I love things that turn into family jokes.!!!!

I probably would've just walked right off the train because I would've felt trapped.
