Sky Watch Friday #7

(c) Misty DawnS

I truly love participating in Sky Watch Friday every week. I look forward to it, and I love seeing everyone's sky photos! You can click on the Sky Watch image at the top of this post to learn more about it and join in on the fun!

On another note - In between my absolutely crazy, hectic, and frustrating events today, I went out to get the mail. We got the January/February edition of a local magazine that is sent out for free if you are a member of a certain group. Right on the front cover was a photo of a barbed wire fence with ice hanging on it from the ice storm, which I'm sure you all got very tired of hearing about and seeing the photos. I came in the house, dropped the magazine in front of my ill husband and said "I could have done that!" as I pointed to the photo on the cover. Hubs looked at it for a minute and then replied "You DID do that. And, you did it BETTER!" So, with that confidence booster, I went and e-mailed the publishers and asked if they accept photography submissions from residents of the state (especially since I am an employee of their 'group' fulfilling a different purpose). Hey, it doesn't hurt to ask, I guess. As you've probably guessed, I haven't heard back from them. LOL

Enough Already

My husband is sick... we are trying to avoid pneumonia, if it hasn't already developed into that. So, I've been running around the house filling the humidifier and vaporizer, picking up cough drop wrappers and tissues, and fixing breathing treatments in a breathing machine we borrowed from my sister-in-law. He really feels lousy, and, because of that, I feel lousy because I wish I could do more to make him feel better.

THEN - I went into the bathroom a little bit ago and heard water... lots of water... NO, more like a waterfall... like an explosion of water. What the heck? I come back through the house, open the door to the addition and see water... TONS of water all over the floor and spraying all over the place. I throw open the door and shout "We've got a PROBBBBBB LEM!" Hubs runs and turns off the main water. So, we go to the basement (which is now partially flooded) to work on the pipes. Hubs really should NOT be standing in the damp, partially flooded, and freezing cold basement - but, last time I checked, I don't have a lot of plumbing experience under my belt. We get the pipe cut, dried, fluxed, capped, and soldered. Hubs goes back outside and turns the water back on... I race up the basement steps (nearly tripping and falling on my face) to the door, throw it open and scream "Turn it OFF! Turn it OFF!" Why? Because now there is water violently spraying out of the other pipe! So, repeat the previous steps on this pipe. UGH! It's fixed now - I'm rewashing about three loads of laundry which got soaked from the water pouring down through the floor. I tried using a broom to push the water into the basement drain, but the drain is plugged - Hubs says that drain being plugged means that eventually our shower and toilet are going to stop working too (What did I do to deserve this??? Oh yeah, I agreed to move to this house) It could have been worse, I guess... but it certainly had bad timing.

On a more humorous note -
The breathing machine we borrowed uses a mask which you strap around your head. The only mask my sister-in-law had was for my nieces, and it is this really cute purple dinosaur mask. Hehehehe. After fixing up the first treatment and handing my husband the mask, he promptly looked at me and ordered "Don't even get any ideas about taking a picture of this so you can blog about it!" Me??? Would I think such a thing? I mean, he acts like all I do I think about how I can blog about stuff! Ya know, nothing is sexier than a 44 year old man wearing a child-sized purple dinosaur (or Barney, as Tammy called it) mask with medicine-vapored smoke coming out the nostrils of the mask... I'm telling ya - so HOT!

NOW, if you have not done so already I ask you... demand... and beg you to please read the post below this one. It is VERY, VERY important to me that you read that post. If you never read my blog again - just read THAT post - PLEASE. (and thank you)

Give Her a Real Life

She tries to sleep, but she can’t-the noises coming from the only bedroom in the trailer are too loud, too embarrassing. Rolling over she faces the wall and hopes that her father will finish what he’s doing and that her step-mother won’t make any more noise.

She’s living every teenage girl’s nightmare.

It’s bad enough that she was torn from her friends in Kentucky-but living here, in this cramped, dirty trailer with no privacy and no indoor shower is the icing on the cake. Fitting in at school was out of the question-her father made sure of that by not allowing her to socialize outside of class & eventually, she woke up one morning knowing that she would no longer walk the halls of freedom, but instead would be taught in the very trailer she slept in.

It’s probably for the best, she thinks-if anyone ever found out that they make me wear hand me down underwear I’d be the laughing stock of the state anyway…

She wishes she could move home-to her real home-with her mother and sister in Connecticut. There she would be nurtured and cared for, and allowed to be a teenager…allowed to have opinions and ideas and to cut her hair the way she likes it.

But she knows she can’t. He’s making sure of that too…

Jamie wants to come home.

Many of you know Linda from Are We There Yet? And perhaps you know that she has two daughters, Amanda and Jamie. Amanda lives with Linda here in CT and Jamie lives in Florida with her father and his wife.

Life for Jamie is not going well.

Jamie is living a lonely life in a cramped, dirty trailer with guardians who won’t allow her to be an individual. She is not allowed to have friends. She can’t choose her own music or movies and she can’t even cut her hair. She has to shower in a common area of a camp ground because her “home” doesn’t have a shower.

She is homeschooled by her stepmother-a woman who is not qualified to take on such a task and Jamie is, for sure, behind other kids her age academically. No doubt, she will also fall behind socially as well.

Though Jamie has expressed to her father that she wants to move to Connecticut to live with her mother, he will not allow it. His reasoning is that Linda is not a good mother.

His reasoning is bull shit.

When Jamie visits, it is easy to see that she flourishes. Her smile is bright and it’s clear that being allowed to smile and laugh and to be a little quirky is the reason. Anyone who reads Linda’s blog knows that she is a caring and attentive mother who strives to give both of her children what they deserve.

The man that Jamie and Amanda call Dad is not a good man. He remarried and is completely wrapped up in his new marriage and does not care what happens to Jamie. If he believes that Linda is a bad mother because Amanda has blue hair, then I wonder what he would say if she were to cast her daughter out of her life simply because she was a little different…

Of course, Linda would never do that-but he did. Amanda lived with her father at one time, and was sent back to live with Linda because she didn’t “fit in” to the family he wanted to create. He no longer speaks to her. Now tell me, how can a man who disowns one daughter ever be a better parent than one who loves unconditionally?

He can’t.

And that’s why Jamie needs to come home.

Being a single mother who makes “too much money” (read: she makes over the poverty level) Linda does not qualify for financial assistance for legal aid, and therefore is having trouble getting a lawyer’s attention. In CT, courts consider a custody award as subject to change until the child involved grows up, and in most states proof of a "change in circumstances" may overturn an earlier award. This flexibility is intended to allow for the correction of poor or outdated decisions.

Jamie has vocalized to both parents that she wishes to move. Her dad has vocalized that it will never happen. Linda made a promise to Jamie that she would do anything in her power to get here home.

But she needs our help.

On the sidebar at MsMaggieMooTallks2U is a magic button-this magic button allows you to donate to the Get Jamie Home Legal Fund. The faster you click, the faster you will help change the life of one little girl who very much needs a new life.

Please help. We’ve seen in the past that every penny helps…even if you can only donate $5, please consider doing it.

Jamie needs to come home.

Misty's Note - I survived some rotten experiences. I did not experience physical abuse - those wounds heal. I wondered if I would get out, get away - I wondered if I would emotionally survive. I cannot deal with the thought that Jamie is feeling these things. It is just not acceptable. She wants to be with her other parent (the one who genuinely loves her) and her mother wants to raise her and give her the love and emotions she needs and deserves. I'm donating for several reasons - because I have the highest respect for Linda and consider her my friend, because I love the posts which tell about Linda's experiences with her daughters and the fact that she loves her daughters more than anything shines through in those posts, because I survived and know the fear and other emotions, and because I could not live with myself if I didn't help!

Please donate to the fund to help bring Jamie home.

Wordless Wednesday

(c) Misty DawnS

That face! She just makes you want to throw that ball for her, doesn't she? She knows that she melts my heart, and she uses it to her advantage. If I'm not paying attention or doing exactly what Molly thinks I should be doing, she will come sit in front of me, put her paw on my leg or arm, and just stare at me with those beautiful chocolate eyes. If I ask her if she loves Mommy, that always gets me a kiss. I never taught her that trick - it's just something she has always done - I ask "You love Mommy?", and she has always responded by giving me a kiss. She completely owns my heart!

Sneaky Guy

The other day, I was talking to my step-daughter on the instant messenger. We talk ALL the time, usually off and on throughout the entire day. We had been chatting for quite a while, and she told me she needed to start some dinner. However, within just a couple minutes, she sent me another message that asked me if I remembered when she told me what she was getting her boyfriend for his birthday. I sat there rather dumbfounded and started searching my memory - was it something for his computer? tickets for a concert or game? Adidas golf equipment? I had no idea, and replied that I couldn't remember. The next response I received was "Darn it!" Now, I was really confused. Within a few minutes, I received a message from my step-daughter informing me that the messages I had previously received were from her boyfriend and he was trying to find out what his birthday gift was going to be! Little rotten... sneaky... well, I outta! However, I can't be too hard on him, because he's going to design a logo for me to use as a watermark on my photos. He's lucky he treats my step-daughter so good. Otherwise, he'd be in serious trouble. hehe.

Heads or Tails *Who You Want to Meet*

One of my favorite bloggers, Skittles has started a Tuesday meme. It is LOTS of fun-so you'll wanna join us right away! If you click on the Heads or Tails logo - it will take you to the post to tell you more about the meme.

This week's topic is Tails - Who would you like to meet and why.

Well, you all know that I desperately want to meet (face-to-face) my BBFF Tammy. Why? Because she's fabulous - that's why! Because she makes me laugh out loud when I've spent the rest of my day in tears. Because we have some much in common and learn about more things we have in common every time we talk, which happens to be everyday. And, because we are going to laugh our booties off when we out-fish our husbands!

So, yes, I want to meet and hang out with this hot mama (she's on the right - doesn't she have beautiful eyes???) -
I would also love to meet and hang out with Stacey, Jen/Gi, Cat, D, and Bubba's Sis. And Barb. And Autumn. And... oh my, there are so many of my online blogging friends I would love to meet!

Oh, and I certainly would love to meet my very special friends from the forum where we talk about the Sara Donati/Rosina Lippi books and our lives in general. Robyn, Michelle, Soup, Judy, Kathy, Marg, Sally, Kenzie... Oh yeah - we'd have a blast, that's for sure! Heck, we'll have Rosina join us when we meet up - how cool would that be ?!?!

As far as celebrities - Oh just a few, such as Martina McBride, the entire crew of Bon Jovi, Jennifer Nettles, the entire Little Big Town band, Sheryl Crow, Tom Hanks, Robyn Williams, Julia Roberts, Hugh Laurie... yeah, just a few ;-)

And, someday, maybe I will meet up with my half-sister. I can explain to her why I never... why I couldn't, be there to meet her. Possibly, she already knows, but I hope that isn't the case, because that would mean she has felt and endured the same things I did. I sincerely hope it is different for her. Maybe it sounds completely illogical, but I hope that she has no idea why I have never been around, because if she does know and understand, then it means she has been through it too.

Thank You Misty Dawn

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the other Misty Dawn. You know, the one who has many more, ummmm, assets than I. Anyway, this is to her.

Dear Miss other Misty Dawn,

I would like to sincerely thank you for so much traffic to my blog. Honestly, I thank you for all you have done (and shown) to cause so many searches by men (and possibly women) who desire to stare at your... beauty. I'm sure that all those searches for "Misty Dawn" are not from people who are actually looking for my blog or me. Therefore, I would like to thank your parents for creating such a beautiful woman and giving her the same name as me, and I would like to thank you for reaching for your dreams of being a model. You see, I simply do not have what it takes for boudoir photos of me in bustiers, but, boy, you sure do! So, I just wanted to let you know that I sincerely appreciate what you have done to boost traffic to my blog (even if those guys do immediately leave when they see a cute puppy instead of... well, nevermind).

Thanks again,
this Misty Dawn

Why I'm Absolutely Speechless

I posted this over at Misty's Words, but I'm very excited about it, so I am posting it here too!

You all know that I absolutely love books. I'm addicted to books. Seriously - it's an addiction. I also love to write, although I haven't devoted much time to writing lately, as my focus has been more on photography. Anyway, let me get to the point (See, I ramble too).

A few years ago, my dad showed up with a hardback book and said "Mist, you just HAVE to read this."

I must admit my response was less than excited, because I honestly didn't think this was 'my type of book'. I couldn't have been more wrong! As I read this book, the characters became real to me. I felt their emotions. I felt anticipation; I laughed out loud; and I cried. After reading this book, I immediately bought the next two books of the series. Again, subsequently, when they were published, I immediately purchased the next two books of the series. Now, I eagerly try to be patient as I wait for the sixth book of the series to be published.

The series is called The Wilderness Series. The author is Sara Donati. Sara Donati is a pen name for The Wilderness Series. Her real name is Rosina Lippi, and she has also published books under her real name. One of which, Tied To The Tracks, is another of my favorite books ever. If you are coming to the conclusion that Rosina Lippi/Sara Donati is my favorite author, you are completely right. Her words and her characters... I just can't even choose the right words to express how fantastic, inspiring - REAL. I have even reacted out loud while reading her books, which is something no other author has ever evoked from me.

Anyway, why am I speechless, you ask? Well, yesterday, I received a comment on this post, which is all about my overseeing the birth of calves and, subsequently, naming them all after characters in the Wilderness Series or friends from the forum, which Rosina had created for us. The comment was from Rosina! My favorite author! Yes, I have communicated with her before, through the forum I mentioned, but this is different. That was her forum, which she designed for her readers. This is my blog; my words; my thoughts, and she, a woman whom inspires me and is one of my idols (for lack of a better word), took the time to come to MY blog! I just can't express to you what that means to me!

Now, you MUST go directly to your local bookstore or library. Get a copy of Into the Wilderness, by Sara Donati, in your possession and start reading. You will NOT be disappointed. You will be coming here to thank me for the recommendation.

Also, on Valentines Day, Rosina Lippi's new book will be released. It is titled The Pajama Girls of Lambert Square, and I am excitedly looking forward to reading it!

Here is the link to all of the books in The Wilderness Series, because, trust me, if you do as I say and read the first book, you will immediately want to read the rest of the series.

Also, here is the link to Rosina/Sara's weblog, which isn't just about her published books, it is also about the craft of writing, recommended readings, and more.

I Need a Maid

Thank you to everyone who commented on the purple sky. That was the first sunset photo I ever took here in this state. I took it when we were visiting on vacation a few years ago. Several people still say that it is one of their favorite photos of mine, and it remains as one of the favorites on Flickr too,.

Today, is a day for catching up on the housework I've been avoiding. So far, I've done two loads of laundry, with many more to do. I've also swept the floors with a broom, because we have hardwood floors, so I can't use any vacuum cleaners on them. With the remodeling and trudging in here in work boots all the time, it is difficult to keep these floors clean, and I'm getting frustrated. I can't wait until I hit the lottery so I can get a main. Yeah, yeah, I know - probably not going to happen. Oh well, it's a nice daydream.

However, I'm excited because the temperature is almost up into the 50s today! So, when the work is done, you can bet that I am going for a walk to enjoy this weather while we have it! Here's hoping I find that bird!!!

Purple Sky

I think I did more this morning than just scrape my hand and fingers. My wrist is pretty sore. I think I may have strained it. I just keep reminding myself of how much fun it will be when it is time to pick out Kohler sinks and spigots. Besides, as long as I can type, that's all that matters!

Even though I haven't participated in the meme, I read the Friday Feasts of all my blogging friends. I've noticed that today's dessert asked what color you would change the sky to instead of blue. The most popular color choice of my blogging friends was purple, which is just fine with me, because that is my favorite color! Well, I've seen and photographed (I can hear your shock) a purple sky, and I wanted to share it with you so you could see what your purple sky would look like. After you are done viewing the purple sky, and if you have time, I'd really appreciate it if you would stop in at Misty's Words and meet my boyfriend. He's the most gorgeous guy I've ever known, and I want to show him off!

Enjoy your purple sky, my friends...

Home Improvement Injury

As much as I wish I were on a royal caribbean cruise right now, I'm not, and I'm just going to have to accept that. It's cold and windy. The wind is making it feel so much colder than what it actually is. This morning, before I even had my coffee, I had to help Hubs unload a one-piece bathtub and surround off of his flatbed trailer. It turned out to be much more heavier than I thought.

I was holding it the best I could, and we made it just a few steps before I started yelling "Wait!", "Hey!", "Hang on!". Unfortunately, he had started his truck to let it warm up, so he could not hear my yelling (that and the fact that he is half-deaf). I was wearing gloves, and they were sliding off, which caused me to drop my side to the ground. Not good! So, I took my gloves off and tried again. Still didn't have a good enough hold on it, and it was determined to go back down to the ground again, with the fiberglass ripping into my fingers and palms along the way. Ouch! Razzlefrazzin! That hurt. Well, at least you won't be able to see the blood when it is installed.

Yes, we managed to get it inside. It was much more of a chore than I had imagined. I guess I'm just not as strong as I like to think I am. But, hey, if you need someone to wrestle a sheep - I'm your gal!

Sky Watch Friday #6

(c) Misty DawnS

I find myself really looking forward to Fridays now, because I have come to absolutely love Sky Watch Friday. The photographers who participate in Sky Watch Friday are absolutely awesome and have amazing talent. Each photo is unique; each photo is gorgeous. My Fridays are now filled with "ooooh"s and "ahhhhh"s and "Wow"s. Yep, I'm loving Fridays, because of Sky Watch Friday! It just dawned on me that I haven't been posting a link with my Sky Watch posts! I don't know what the heck is wrong with me! If you would like to join Sky Watch Friday (trust me - you really do want to), click right here and join in on the beauty!

Picture It

Just picture it...
Original Misty DawnS photography complimented by stunningly beautiful frames (I think my daddy should move out here to make the frames, don't you think?), and adorning the walls of living and family rooms everywhere. Look up above the television or the home theater furniture and see a beautiful Border Collie photo or, perhaps, a breathtaking sunset, with Misty's signature of authenticity in the corner (written in purple, of course). Quite the dream, isn't it?

OK, I admit, I'm getting a little carried away here, and, no, I haven't had too much to drink. I'm just a little proud of myself today, because I received an e-mail notifying me that one of my photos won Honorable Mention in an art contest at my college. Why yes, I AM 32 years old and attending college online. It's never too late, right? Anyway, I realize it's just honorable mention, and that it could be better, and that all I 'win' is publication of my photo in their online journal, but I'm still proud anyway. So, I thought I would share my news with my greatest supporters - my blogging buddies! Thanks everyone for encouraging me and giving me confidence. You all are the best!

(By the way - yes, the pun with the title was intended)

From Molly

Hi everyone! It's me - Molly. I just needed to vent about something, and since Mommy comes on here to vent to you guys all the time, I thought I would too! You see, it's that darn puppy! Oh yeah, I know you all think she's the cutest thing evahhhhh, but let me tell you - she's evil! She's spoiled rotten, and because she's so darn cute, she gets away with everything. Seriously! You wouldn't believe the things she gets away with! Tag and I always get told that we are older and we know better. Blah - Blah - Blahhhh - that's what I say. Let me just give you some examples...

Mommy and I went for a walk the other day. It was cold, but I didn't care, because I had Mommy all to myself, and I brought my ball along on the walk. I ALWAYS follow the b.y.o.b. rule - You know, bring.your.own.ball. Yep, I'm good about that. So, anyway, Mommy and I got back from our walk and you know what happened? That darn puppy immediately stole my ball! Yep! Can you imagine? AND, she got away with it! Didn't even get in trouble!

She's a chewer too - chews on everything! Everything! She even chewed a 2x2 right in half the other day! Why the heck would any dog in her right mind want to chew a board in half? She's not right in the head, I tell ya.

Ahhh, but I think she is going to be in some serious trouble now - Oh yes, she's going to get what's coming to her! LOOK what she did last night while Mommy and Daddy were sleeping!!!
Those are Mommy's sweatpants! Oh that puppy is going to be in so much trouble!!! AND - look at this...
That is the end table leg! She did that to the furniture! I told you she was evil! Mommy's daddy (whom I really like cuz he always brings me treats and stuff) had the nerve to say that puppy-teeth marks just add character to the furniture, so she shouldn't get in trouble! Can you believe that crap???

I swear, if she gets away with this just because she is so cute, I'm going to pack up my toys and move somewhere where I can be an only dog! This is ridiculous!

Getting Back to the Purpose

Recently, many of my blogging friends have told me they are considering doing paid posts and want my advice about how to advertise on blogs. Smorty continues to be one of my favorite companies to work with for doing paid posts. Smorty has always paid me quickly and without fail. However, my favorite thing about Smorty is once you accept an opportunity, you have three days to complete your post. So, you are not rushing just to write a post for the sake of getting paid. With those three days, you have time to think about and create a post which will not take away from the quality of your blog. That has become very important to me. You may have noticed that I have backed off doing so many paid posts for another company, and that is because I realized that I was taking away from the quality of my blog, because I was rushing to get the post done before a very short deadline, and I was not having the opportunity to make it an interesting post. When I realized this, I decided to change my approach. I started this blog to write, to be creative, and to hopefully have people want to read what I have to say. Therefore, I was very upset with myself when I realized that I had gone astray from that purpose. Yes, I still do paid posts and love doing them. I'm just making sure that I have the opportunity to make those posts creative and interesting. Since Smorty gives me three days to create such a post, they remain as one of my favorite companies.

Heads or Tails *The Five Senses*

One of my favorite bloggers, Skittles has started a Tuesday meme. It is LOTS of fun-so you'll wanna join us right away! If you click on the Heads or Tails logo - it will take you to the post to tell you more about the meme.

This week's topic is Heads - Any of the Five Senses (Hear, Touch, Smell, See, Taste). Well, I'm doing ALL of them! Oh Yes, I am - except, I'm doing three on this blog and two on my other blog!

Flowers for SMELL - Oh how I miss the flowers!
I can't wait to be able to take flower photos again!
(c) Misty DawnS

Bird is for HEAR (actually, this is a Robin - the first sign of Spring - unfortunately, it will be awhile until I see one of these again!) I love to hear the birds singing
Mother's Milk is for TASTE (Mokey and her kittens. Yes, these are the same ones who were staring at me through the hole in the barn wall)
You'll have to visit Misty's Words for the TOUCH and SIGHT senses.

Rough Day

This is one of those days when I feel like I need to just go back to bed. Many unexpected things occurred today, and I feel like my head is spinning. It started in the morning with my step-daughter telling me that her car was hit by some people moving into the house next door. She wasn't in the car and didn't see it happen. Luckily, another neighbor saw it happen and was able to tell her about it so she could contact the police and the insurance company. Things just escalated from there. It seemed like every time I turned around, I was getting informed about something else that stressed me out more! It is now to the point where I don't even want to hear my phone ring! If I had a watch, I'm sure it would report to me that it was time for bed. I could just go to sleep and wake up tomorrow and hopefully tomorrow will be better. Oh, and maybe I'd get to sleep through this Winter weather advisory that we are under now. This weather is getting ridiculous!

Give Me Five Monday *Five Favorite Shopping Searches*

My friend Becca started a new Monday meme called Give Me Five Monday. The 'Give Me Five' Monday meme is designed to share fun information with each other in a simple short list! Here's how it works. Each week, she will put out a random topic from her list of topics and you share 5 answers of your choice on the given topic and link back to her! You can add photos, links or stories or just a simple list of your own of 5 things that relate to the topic as it pertains to you and your life experiences. It doesn't have to be in any order of importance unless otherwise specified. Go over to BeccA's Buzz and check it out!

This week's topic is "Five of your favorite searches on eBay". This one is pretty easy for me this week! But, you'll have to excuse me for being short and to the point this week, because I've got too many other unexpected things going on today.

My current five common eBay searches are:
1. Canon 40D
2. Canon 5D
3. Laptop Bag for 17" laptop
4. Border Collie teacup/Border Collie plate
5. and various searches for photography studio supplies, such as flashes, lighting, backdrops, etc.

Linky Love 2008

First, I was tagged by Tammy for this Linky Love. I was also tagged by Linda. So, since I think linky love is very important, I decided to push this tag up to the top of the list. I looked through both posts to combine them, so that I had all the links from both Tammy and Linda.

She's Fabulous

See that totally Hawwwwwt and wonderful mommy helping her most adorable son blow out his birthday candles? Well, I'm here to tell you that hot, wonderful, considerate, caring mommy has been nominated for some Bloggers Choice awards! Not surprising is it?

Let me tell you about the most recent week in her life... she had a migraine which left her unable to function one evening/night... to be followed up with a visit from some family during which her great-niece accidentally tipped a very large aquarium and flooded the entire living room - said living room carpet will eventually need to be replaced... her pre-teen daughter and friends messed up the computer and left her unable to focus on her income or anything else other than getting the computer working again... she thought she had (and was looking forward to) a day without children (she does daycare in her home), until a family member showed up with three kids for her to take care of until late that night...

That's just a week people - AND

through all of that going on in her own life - her own things to deal with... she still found out that her friend was fighting a depression and felt hopeless over it... she took the time to get in touch, be the considerate, goofy, fun, and silly friend she is... she made that friend laugh - she made that friend think about fun, silly, and outright ridiculous things - she made that friend feel loved... she...

she helped that friend see a light and feel some strength against a dark cloud which that friend hadn't been able to find before.

In my opinion - someone as special as that deserves our votes - in my opinion - it is MY mission to tell you how wonderful she is - my mission to tell you that she is up for these awards - my mission to ask you to please click HERE and then click on her sidebar and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE vote for her - she deserves it - she's fabulous!

That's My Guy

Hubs and I don't usually buy gifts for each other on the holidays. This is mainly because we just moved and are spending our money on home improvements and necessary farm items. Yesterday, I was drooling over reading about the Canon 40D on a digital camera website. I thought I'd be a sarcastic, smarty-pants, which I'm really good at being, by the way. So, I asked Hubs what he was getting me for Valentine's Day. Now, I'll admit, I'm not your typical woman. I don't want chocolates, flowers, or any jewelry, such as a gold anklet, and my husband knows this about me. He didn't miss a beat when he answered my sarcastic question, though.
What did my husband say he is getting me for Valentines Day? A hay rake. Isn't that so romantic?!?!

(graphic courtesy of glitter-graphics)

No, I'm not just trying to prove that I can count - I've been tagged for a meme. Tammy hobbled to her computer to tag me with a meme - bad ankle an all (which, I personally think that if it isn't better should be x-rayed to see if it is hurt worse that she is admitting - but, I guess my over-protectiveness is showing through). Tammy had a really stressful week and, since I can't be there to help her and take her mind off of the events of the week, I figure the least I can do is complete the meme she tagged me with!

1. Name one thing you do everyday.

Breathe - yup, every single day... until I stop, and then I won't 'be' anymore ;-)

2. Name two things you wish you could learn.

I would like to learn more web design things, such as HTML, graphic creation, more about web sites, etc.

I would also like to learn to be a better cook. No, I'm not a bad cook - I'm just not an experienced cook. I can follow a recipe, but when it comes to the things that good cooks just know in their heads - well, I don't have that stuff.

3. Name three things that remind you of your childhood.

- Kentucky - we had a cottage there, and it was one of my favorite places ever.
- Watermelon, Cantaloupe, and Corn on the Cob - my great uncle had a produce farm, and I spent my summers planting, picking, and selling produce. (and eating it too - yummmmmy)
- The Cosby Show - my grandmother did not like television, because she thought it took away from family interaction. However, she loved Bill Cosby and would hold me on her lap while we watched The Cosby Show together.

4. Name four things you love to eat but rarely do.

- Siciliano's Pizza (It'd take about a 14 hour drive to get me some)
- Sushi
- Aunt J's seven layer salad (Oh, how I miss it!!!)
- Whoppers (The Burger King is too far away!)

5. Name five things/people that make you feel good.

- My dogs - especially when I see them for the first time in the morning and they run as hard and fast as they can to come greet me and have me hug them.
- My dad - We've developed a relationship and bond that is indescribable
- My best friends - Tammy, LMQ, Beck, Sue and the people from the forum (although I don't get to talk to them much now) Robyn, Michelle, Soup, Judy, Marg, Kathy, Wolfy... and my online-blogging friends (there are just too many of you to list!)
- Hanging out with my cousins
- When my nieces climb up in my lap, hug me, or tell me they love me.
(and, of course, my husband... but that's a given - I mean, I married the man. Besides, whose stupid idea was it to only allow five things or people that make you feel good??? I'm a very thankful person by nature - I could give you a list a mile long to answer this question!)

I'm so behind on memes that I don't think I have the right to tag anyone. So, if you would like to do this meme, then I would love to read your answers.

We have a wind chill advisory in our area for tonight and tomorrow. keeps telling me -

All I can say is brrrrr. I've already told you that I can't stand to be cold. It gets in my muscles and I start shaking and can't stop and that leads to soreness or sometimes even a flare. No flares allowed in this house!!! So, if you need me - I'll be under that pile of blankets... really, you may not see me, but I'm under there ;-) Don't worry, I can blog from there too. Sounds like a great Saturday to me - snuggled cozy under the blankies while talking to my blogging buddies.

Love and Hate Meme

I was tagged for this meme by my wonderful friend Sandee over at Comedy Plus. Actually, she tagged both of my blogs. It's a good thing that I'm opinionated and have many loves and hates. If you have never been to the Comedy Plus blog, I strongly advise you to start visiting there on a routine basis, especially if you need to smile or laugh out loud. Whenever I need to laugh, Sandee never lets me down!

  1. I love to eat: freshwater fish at a good ol' fashioned fish fry
  2. I hate to eat: squash! Ugh, I'm shuddering just thinking about it.
  3. I love to go: for photo-walks in nature
  4. I hate to go: to the hospital
  5. I love it when: I receive comments on my blog posts ;-)
  6. I hate it when: there's a writers' strike and all the shows are re-runs.
  7. I love to see: that I captured a great photo.
  8. I hate to see: any form of prejudice or abuse.
  9. I love to hear: my Molly (Border Collie) 'talking' to me.
  10. I hate to hear: the 'Gd' swear term.
There's my answers to the Love and Hate meme (on this blog). I'm tagging anyone who would like to do this meme.

Sky Watch Friday #5

(c) Misty DawnS
This photo was taken last Sunday.
I was in the house, and when I walked by the window, I exclaimed "Oh MY! " and went running for the camera.
Hubs was asking, "What? What?"
I simply replied, "I've gotta go! I'll be back in a few minutes!"
When Hubs saw the pictures, he then completely understood why his wife had gone running out the door in the middle of winter with shoes on bare feet and no coat.

You Cheer Me Up

It has become apparent to me that my post is confusing... Please click "Read More" at the bottom of this post for the list of recipients - I'm sorry for the confusion.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Look what Ann from A Nice Place in the Sun game me! I'm so touched and honored, because this woman cheers me up ALL the time. In fact, you ALL cheer me up and make me happy! Online friends are wonderful, but you already know how strongly I believe that. (I know LMQ will absolutely LOVE this award - she's a huge Lucy fan).

I have a LOT of awards to pass along and a LOT of memes I have been tagged for, but I got really far behind over the holidays, and, now, it seems that I just keep getting further behind. I'm going to start working on posting those awards and passing them along... I promise.

For this award, please go over to A Nice Place in the Sun to read her very fun and inspiring post about why she created this award.

I pass this award to:

The Lawn Mower Queen
Bubba's Sis
Smalltown RN
The Gal Herself
The Teach
Jen (This and That)
Shelly (This Eclectic Life)

Whew - I sure hope Ann doesn't mind the lost list, but you all deserve it, because you all cheer me up, make me smile, and make me happy! I'm going to do a follow up to this post - to list the people, characters, authors, actors, etc who cheer me up... but that post is going to require some thought and time. So, this post is "to be continued..."

Wordless Wednesday

(c) Misty DawnS

Well, it can't be completely wordless when my beauty is posing for the camera! My Molly is my heart and soul. She is the oldest of the three, and the puppy immediately bonded with her. Everywhere Molly goes, the puppy is sure to follow. If you sit back and watch, especially when Maggie was younger, she would always be looking to Molly to learn from and follower her actions. The really ironic thing is the puppy's facial and head markings are so similar to Molly that everyone assumes that Maggie is Molly's pup. Nope - all three of my dogs are rescues.

What??? Something wrong with my title? Oh yeah - that brings me to the point of this post.

I was working today at one of my various jobs - the one as a virtual assistant. Anyway, I am so very grateful that I make it a habit to proofread EVERYTHING I type for work... even if it is just a simple letter.

You see, today, I typed just that... a simple letter. This letter was talking about a man who filed bankruptcy (remember, I am the virtual assistant for a lawyer). I typed the letter, began to proofread, and then proceeded to fall on the floor in absolute hysterics due to my typo. The letter, as I typed it, went something like this...

Dear Client: I attended a meeting of creditors today to attempt to get some money that is owed to you by Mr. X, who is filing bankruptcy. During this hearing, we discovered that he had previously sold his hoe for $150,000.00. However, his net proceeds were only $50,000.00, and he repaid $45,000.00 to his father.

Well, it was good for a laugh anyway, and, yes, I corrected my typo before I sent it to my boss (actually, my boss would have laughed his you-know-what off about it - I'll have to call him tomorrow and tell him about it).

Heads or Tails *The Letter C*

One of my favorite bloggers, Skittles has started a Tuesday meme. It is LOTS of fun-so you'll wanna join us right away! If you click on the Heads or Tails logo - it will take you to the post to tell you more about the meme.

This week's topic is Heads - any word that starts the the letter 'C'.

So - I thought... and I thought... and then my BBFF, Tammy, and I were chatting, and she and I both thought... and thought. Then, she said "Dork" (cuz that's what she calls me) "Do it on cows!" She's the smartest cashew I've ever met!

BUT, if you wanna see my HoT on cows, you'll have to go over to Misty's Words and read it there.

For the post on this blog, here is a list of my favorite things beginning with "C":

- Surprised at that one, aren't ya? I have three Border Collies. My boyfriend is a wolfdog (wolf x german shepherd). My dream is to run a canine rescue. I would like to own... oh at least a couple dozen half dozen or so more canines of various breeds. Basically - in a nutshell - I'm CANINE-CRAZY!

- You know you are an addict when your spouse tells you that he had a dream that you had a laptop growing out of your stomach! I am completely addicted to my computer. I use it for work, school, communication, entertainment, wasting time, research, etc, etc. I now own a Toshiba Satellite 17" laptop, which is above and beyond any laptop I ever dreamed of owning - I LOVE it!

- I know, another big shocker for ya! More specifically - a CANON CAMERA (my dream camera). I would love to own a Canon 30D someday. So far, I've got $25 in donations to Misty's Camera Fund - I've convinced the Hubs that if I get enough donations for half the camera, then we can match the other half!

Coffee & Caffeine
- Addiction is an understatement (Hmmm, do you see a patter of addiction tendencies here?). I love coffee, and I love Code Red Mountain Dew and Dr. Pepper. Oh yeah!

- That's my BBFF - ahahahahaha I crack myself up sometimes. Oh - sorry - inside joke. I just couldn't help myself

Cleveland Indians!!!
- I only like them... just a little bit. I mean, it's not like I have a habit of going on and on and on about them during baseball season or anything. I've got more respect for my readers than to push a team on them like that (whew that lightning bolt just missed me!).

- Other than Mokey and her kittens (which are becoming all grown up now), my three other favorite cats 'own' LMQ & LMK. SOCKS - I miss you buddy!!!

- Seriously - did you think there could be a C-favorites list that didn't include Chocolate??? Chocolate covered pretzels are my absolute fave! Mmmmmmm

- Dream car - 1969 Camaro - black with purple pinstripes and "Misty Dawn" in purple on the driver's door ;-) Oh yeah!

Cows - We used to operate a dairy farm. Now, we are going to operate a beef cattle farm on about 750 acres. So, obviously, cows are pretty important to me.

Country - I'm a country girl through and through. It defines who I am.

Cowboys - Do I really need to expand on this one???

OK - that's all I can think of right now... I'm sure there's more and I'll bolt upright in bed at about 2:34 a.m. (on the button) and realize that I forgot a major important "C" word! I'll then look at the Clock, shout "oh Crap", and Climb back into bed and dream about Cattails and Cadillacs. :-) Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone!!!

Give Me Five Monday "Your Job*

My friend Becca started a new Monday meme called Give Me Five Monday. The 'Give Me Five' Monday meme is designed to share fun information with each other in a simple short list! Here's how it works. Each week, she will put out a random topic from her list of topics and you share 5 answers of your choice on the given topic and link back to her! You can add photos, links or stories or just a simple list of your own of 5 things that relate to the topic as it pertains to you and your life experiences. It doesn't have to be in any order of importance unless otherwise specified. Go over to BeccA's Buzz and check it out!

This week's topic is "Five Things You Like and/or Dislike About Your Job". Hmmmm, I guess at this point, I would have to ask - which job? I find myself putting on many different hats and fulfilling many different job roles. For this meme, I'll refer to the job of being a Virtual Assistant.

Five Things I Like and/or Dislike About Being a Virtual Assistant

Working from home - LIKE
I love working from home. I love not having to drive through bad weather in order to get to work. I love spending the whole day in 'my space'. Plus, working from home gives me the flexibility I need which allows me to have other sources of income too.
2. Working with Computers - LIKE
As you know, I'm a computer addict. I love working with computers and learning things on computers. Practically everything I do as the lawyer's virtual assistant involves the computer.
3. Finding Enough Clients - DISLIKE
I am awesome at completing the tasks required as a virtual assistant. However, what I am not awesome at is marketing myself. Therefore, I only have one client. I actually need three clients in order to make an adequate income and be a full-time virtual assistant. However, I'm struggling with the marketing to find new clients.
4. Strong Business Relationships - Like
A virtual assistant is the client's 'right arm'. Therefore, a strong and important partnership is formed between the virtual assistant and the client. This goes beyond a casual business relationship and actually becomes more of a partnership where each person is dependent on the other.
5. Responsibility - Like
Working from home and being my own boss is hard work, but I find the end results to be very fulfilling. I always had a hard time dealing with office politics and the competitions between and talking about other employees. I always preferred running the office and being responsible for every aspect of making that business run. If something goes wrong, I need to take responsibility and fix it. If something is done right, then I performed my job as expected.

There you have it - that's my Give Me Five on being a Virtual Assistant. I could also do one on being an administrative assistant... a blogger... a bookkeeper... a customized gift creator... and a farmer. (gosh, I don't do enough)

Band Meme

The one and only Mimi threatened me with the dungeon and torture if I did not follow her orders and complete this meme. Since I think I'm allergic to both dungeons AND torture, you will find the completed meme below ;-)

Here's how it works - You are about to have your own band's CD cover. Follow these directions to the letter.

Go to......

The first article title on the page is the name of your band.

The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.

The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

So, here it is - my band's debut CD (we're gonna be as big as Elvis and the Beatles one day!)...
Hmmm... I think a couple more people need to do this meme... such as...

Did You Ever Feel Like...

you were being watched?
I went for a walk today (Yes, on my mission to get a photo of that evil bird). I didn't see the bird, but I did see six deer. Unfortunately, they were too far away to get a good photo, and by the time I got the telephoto lens on the Sony, the deer took off.
When I got back from my walk, and was coming through the gate by the barn, I had the distinct feeling I was being watched.
Turns out, I was right - this is what I saw when I looked up at the loft doors of the barn.
No, they are not stuck... it just looks that way (silly kitties).

Help - I've Fallen...

I feel like such a dork (that was for you, Tam)! I went for a walk - I was on the quest to find the BIG BIRD which almost decapitated me yesterday. It's wet and muddy and messy and yucky here, but that was NOT going to stop me! Oh no - I must.find.that.bird!!

So, I come to the first ditch in the field. Now, there is water running through it and the banks of the ditch are muddy. Who cares? I played three sports year round when I was in school (hey - that was only fourteen years - *gasp* was it that long - ago?)...

Like a deer, I jumped the ditch. It was beautiful - I would have scored at least an 8.5 with the wind blowing through my hair... and... well, my landing - well, it wouldn't have scored as well. I landed - my whole body landed... you see I came down beautifully - until my feet slipped in the mud and I went face down. UGH was the sound I made (only because the wind was knocked out of me, so I couldn't voice all the curses that came to mind). I got up - looked around to make sure that no one just happened to be standing out in my field to see me fall on my face - checked my beloved camera - and continued on my walk.

I then came to the next ditch. Oh no, fool me once... yeah, yeah, you know the saying. I did not jump this ditch. I was just going to go ahead and step in the mud and cross the ditch. Suuuuuuuure. First step... foot goes sliding on the slippery-snot-like mud and goes flying out in front of me while I scream "Ohhhhh...." ummmm "no" Yeah, that's what I said "Oh no" Hey! you weren't there - that's what I said - really! I landed flat on my freaking back - in the mud... and... oh yes...

I watch as THE bird... that *&%^*&* bird goes flying over me (I swear he was looking down at me and laughing - seriously he did this sound as he flew over! That bas^$d was laughing at me! I could just hear him "Who wishes they had their camera ready now??? cawwwww cawwww"

Stupid bird! Stupid mud! Who needs awesome photos anyway? ( I do - and I'll be back out there soon - addiction... it's a bear!)

So, I came... slowly... home. Hubs looks at me and asks "Honey! Did you fall?"
"No Darling, I decided it was a great time for a mud bath - YES I fell... TWICE" I was touched at the concern in his voice... that was... until he asked...
"Oh no! Did you hurt..." (Right now I can hear you saying 'awwwww, he's concerned about her')... the complete statement was

"Oh no! Did you hurt the camera?"
Me muttering under my breath - "Yes, I broke it to pieces - just gonna have to go buy that Canon now" ;-) UGH!

Slow Down

I need time to slooooooooooow down! I'm running behind again... way, way, way behind on reading and commenting on blogs (G, I wonder if it is because I am subscribed to over 80 blogs... I mean it takes half a day to read them all... I know, I know, I'm an addict).

But, but, but - Did you see that I got my own domain name? Yup - for both blogs :-) That was what kept me from blogging yesterday. Tammy and I got our own domain names for our blogs and got them all set up. How cool is that?

So, that was one of the goals for my blogs I had set for 2008 - to get my own domain names. I get to cross something off the list - wooohooo! I love crossing things off my list! I also have a goal to make this blog three-columns... but that's scary as *&^%! I'm SO afraid I will really mess everything up! So, for now, I'll keep procrastinating on that goal.

As far as the depression-monster - I'm beating it - oh yea, I am! My chat with Tammy yesterday did wonders for me (She's the best cashew I've ever met! Eh, don't ask!) And, I even got to talk to LMQ for a little bit - which was absolutely wonderful, because I hardly ever get to talk to her anymore, and I really miss her.

So, I've got a LOT of catching up to do... blogs to read, comments to make, awards to post and hand out, memes to fulfill. But, first...

I have to go on a walk and try to find the hawk that almost decapitated me yesterday. Yup, I was walking along, with the camera turned on so I wouldn't miss a good photo opportunity. What I wasn't expecting was a giant hawk to come flying out of some brush I was walking by and about take my head off! I just exclaimed "&%^*" and didn't even get a photo! So - I'm off to find that bird!
