RAW Disappointment

(c) Misty Dawn

The other day, I mentioned that I allowed myself to get overly excited about something, which, in turn, caused me to get seriously disappointed. I'll tell you what happened.

I spoke with the editor of a local magazine, and he asked me to send him some photos for a possible cover photo on the next issue of the magazine. Well, as you can imagine, was so excited I could hardly type the e-mail to send him samples of my work. Unfortunately, I was informed that my photos are not at a high enough resolution for inclusion in magazines, calendars, etc. For anyone who has had success at professional photography, you already know that the images should be shot in RAW. Unfortunately, I do not have the capability to shoot in RAW format with my camera. I only have myself to blame for my disappointment though, because I allowed myself to get overly excited and believe that my photos were good enough. I shouldn't have done that.

Now, I'm making myself be optimistic. Eventually, after the hay equipment and cows are purchased, the home improvements are finished, and I discover a way to make more money, I will own that Canon camera. Then, I will enjoy more photo-walks and possibly get some photos, in RAW format, that would be good enough for publication. It's not a guarantee that I will capture photos good enough for publication or professional photography, but, for now, I'm not willing to give up on that dream.

I'm sorry it didn't work out this time. But, you are absolutely right! DO NOT give up on your dream! Where there's a will, there's a way!! Hugs!

Considering I can barely hold a camera and keep it steady while I click the shot, you really have me confused now.

What is RAW format anyway?

Correction: Your pictures are better than good's just your camera that's a bit less than desired.

Live and learn is usually how it goes. You are going to get your photos in a magazine. You just wait. I have faith in you my friend. Have a great day. :)

I hope all works out for you Misty and that you get the camera you deserve. You capture such amazing photos!

Take care

Never give up your dream Misty!! You will have photos in a magazine some day...even sooner than you think, I'm sure! Happy WW!

Of course you won't give up! You're not the type. :)
Oh: You're It!

Jillie Bean (AKA Bubba's Sis)

Misty, Misty, Misty - your photos ARE good enough! They're just not in the right format. Don't doubt yourself! You have a special talent for photography, and one day you WILL have that camera and you WILL have more success with your dream!

Bubba's Sis has already said exactly what I was going to say. It's not your PICTURES that weren't good enough, it was because they weren't in RAW format. HUGE difference. Huge!

I can understand your disappointment. But that Canon is going to come your way, don't worry. (Same as it's going to come my way eventually.)
I could shoot in RAW I think but never do. Hm, maybe I should check out my camera?

Don't give up that dream! I can't give up mine either to get good photos. I think my camera does RAW, however, I haven't tried using it. Honestly, I need to learn quite a bit yet. I was looking at cameras the other day and saw that Canon 40D you talk about. That would be an awesome camera. I couldn't afford that one and instead have an Olympus E-510. It is a DSLR and can shoot in RAW. Problem is... I really don't understand either of those terms yet. I've got a lot to learn. I'm having fun learning though and that's what counts. Our dreams will come true!

Heart of Rachel

Hi Misty. Hope you had a lovely Valentine's Day celebration. I was here yesterday but wasn't able to make a comment because my internet was so slow last night.

I think it's wonderful that the magazine is interested in your photos. Your photos are marvelous and I think the only reason they weren't accepted for now is because of the format. I hope that you can get that camera you want soon.

Good luck and keep taking beautiful photos.
