Still Trying

(c) Misty DawnS

I've been putting all my efforts into finding more ways to earn enough of an income from home. It's clear that I am not earning enough right now, and if I don't change that, I'm afraid I will probably be giving up blogging. It's not that I want to give up blogging, but I know my limits. I know that in order to find full-time employment which will bring a good income around here, I will have to drive about 40 minutes to get to work. When you add up the drive to the eight or nine hours at work, and then add in the normal things that need done at home, I am realistic enough to know that I will not have the time or energy left to continue blogging.

However, I haven't given up yet. I continue to work as a Virtual Assistant for the lawyer. That is working out wonderfully for both of us. However, with him as my only client, the virtual assistance income is not enough. I've been doing paid posts, which I know a lot of people do not agree with, but it's another way to add income, and I try to make all of my posts of good quality. I realize that many people don't agree with the decision to do paid posts, and I can only hope and pray that you will understand why I have made that decision and still enjoy my blog.

I've considered many ideas which would involve photography, but those will have to wait. Yes, I'm trying to learn patience. There seems to be interest in my photos. So, someday, when I have a professional camera, I will reach for that dream (I've even been going through my house trying to find things to sell so I can take a step towards that dream - Anybody want some really nice books? laptop bags? How about craft supplies? hehe). When talking to my father-in-law on the phone this morning (He called because he was 'thinking of me and missing me'), he stated "That's your dream, and you have what it takes to do it. You can't give up on that."

On a better note, I received a certificate in the mail the other day. It stated I had won Third Place with the above photo in my college's art competition. That was a nice surprise, because they had originally told me in an e-mail that I had received Honorable Mention, but the e-mail was wrong, and I had actually won Third Place.

My husband is gone for the day. He went to pick up a hay rake he purchased. So, he now should have the equipment he needs to make hay for the cattle and get back to the farming life.

It's a bright and sunny day here today (finally). So, I will be taking advantage of having some time to myself by blogging excessively catching up on my friends' blogs and going for a few walks with the camera. A camera is like a dog, ya know, it requires daily walks ;-)

As an end-note, I am not looking for pity by writing this post - Sometimes I just need to write to get it out of my head and try to gain some perspective.

Hopefully, I'll be posting some photos for you later today!

How I do appreciate and enjoy the humanity of your messages!

It seems to me that the most right and proper place (ever) for a comfortable "placing on the table" of your concerns, anxieties, and desires (properly edited, of course) is on your extension of your Self ... this blog.

I, for one, am complimented to be included in such open and trusting sharing. And as for your allowing a gift of Writing to enable a bit of income ... God Speed and go for it, Dear One!

Tammy

I'm still thinking.....we gotta figure a out a way!!!! Me put on my thinking cap...

Babaloo

Love the new look of your site! And congrats on making that 3rd place, that's great!

Stacey@Real World Mom

Congratulations on the photo award! That is sooo exciting! I love the photo too!

I totally understand what you mean about needing to improve the income situation. I've been unemployed since last October, and have yet to find another job! It's been difficult and extremely stressful--to say the least!

For as long as I can remember, writing has been my 'therapy'. I used to--and still do--write in a journal (as in pen to paper!). Now, I also blog, though I have to watch what I say, because of the people that may read it.

You're not alone! Hugs!

Congratulations on the third place. I hope things improve financially for you, and you are able to find some more online business opportunities that will keep you blogging... :) But if you have to give up blogging for a regular 9-5er you'll be missed but we'll all understand.

It is a tough position to be in. I do many things to make or save money so we can do other things. We are getting chickens in the spring. My sisters have had chickens for years and I sell eggs for them and for my aunt when she has too many. I find I am always handing them their money so we are going to work on that. I sell Avon, which I didn't work at vigorously at the beginning, but after 7 years it is doing okay. I don't always make a lot of money, but I buy many of the things I would buy elsewhere, at a discount, and I buy a lot of gift items that way, saving the trip to the store and I get a discount. I do have a part time job, as a tour guide. I only have to go in when there are tours booked, and I can book off in advance any dates I want. It works well since I home school my 4 kids and have to drive them all over creation. I really hope you find the things that help your situation, and always remember, some things that save money are equivalent to making that money.

Wow, a new look here too. It's beautiful. Now you just can't give up blogging. You can cut back, but not give it up. What will your readers do if you leave. Mourn that's what. Have a great day. :)

I just don't understand, why is it so terrible doing paid post? Anyways, why not try to find a niche for an online business? Just an opinion. I'm finding for myself too actually.

Stacey

Stuck with you? More like blessed by your friendship, girlfriend.

Mist, I don't want you to give up your dreams. Praying for you, I will be praying for something great to open up for you. Have you met my friend Terence? Go over to his blog and ask him about how he makes his money--he has tons of tricks and information for professional bloggers. Almost A Billionairre on the sidebar.

The photo is amazing--I'll never know how you do that, get the perfect angle, lighting and subject all lined up at once. Wow. xoxo

PS--congrats on the win! That's affirmation if ever there was any. xoxox

I still have hope for getting extra money from blogging hi hi hi hi. And i hope you too.

You have great talent with your photography. Hope you can sell your pics also. I am thinking also selling my photos but i don't know where?? Maybe in time :D

Have a nice weekend. I like your new layout ^_*

Congrats on the victorious photo! And thank you for sharing the info about cameras requiring daily walks. My poor Olympus has been housebound since the holidays.

Your paid posts don't bother me. In fact, I thought the SBA entry was interesting.

Does the lawyer have any colleagues or clients he could recommend you to? Would it be appropriate for you to ask him? He may prefer sharing you to losing you altogether …

Laura

LOVE the new look....and congrats on placing! That picture is increadible! Hopefully you'll find something soon...I finally found something to do from home...after 15 years of looking...you WILL find it. In the mean time, keep up the good work! I LOVE your site, and especially the pictures!

Smalltown RN

Love your new look...very impressive....and you know something will come along...you know what you have to do...and it will happen one way or another....don't give up...stay positive...but most importantly...listen to your inner voice it will show you the way...oh and listening to father in law doesn't sound like a bad idea either...

Carrie Smith

I hope you can find what you are looking for Misty it certainly wouldn't be the same without you...

Your paid post don't bother me in the least. I understand the reasons behind why you do them and I am doing the same.

hang in there girl things will work out for you and I will be thinking of you and praying that all works out and you can continue blogging :0)

First off, a big congratulations on your Third Place award - that is totally awesome! You deserve it, that's an excellent photo!

Don't worry about the paid posts, I don't really think they bother people as much as those of us who do them think they do. I used to be paranoid about it but now I do one or two when a good one comes along and no one has said "boo". They can just opt not to read them if that's the case and I've never had anyone complain - yet!

I hope that something comes through for you that you can continue to work at home as, trust me, it is very hard to juggle a full-time job and a full-time blog and a full-time home (my poor house has never looked this bad but I just keep ignoring it in favor of the blog!). Even if you had to drop down to part-time, though, we'd all still visit and love you just as much - honest!!

Hi Misty,

As another virtual assistant in the cyber world, I know how are it can be when your business is in the balance.

Have you ever thought of targeting photographers and equestrian-types as your clients?

Forgive me if you have and I just haven’t read those posts. I’m chiming in at this stage of the game and thought I would share my two cents.

God Bless.

Misty, I sure hope you find a way to keep blogging and making money both. I'd surely miss you! Congrats on 3rd prize. It's a great photo - shoulda won 1st! :D

Chica

I've been blogging for two years, and I can't count the number of times I wanted to quit it. I wanted to make money online, and so far have only made 250 dollars since October, that's nothing compared to what others can do, but I'm content.

Love the photo of your horse, if you pursue photography as an income thing, I'd suggest working with animals. There are a lot of things people with camera's can do. Working for a newspaper, and animal shelter, or even taking photos of items people want to sell, to improve their sale. It's all out there waiting to be grabbed up and taken, so whatever you decide to do, more power to you. I want to thank you for coming by my place, and commenting, because I certainly now would not want to miss out on this blog.

The Egel Nest

We would all understand...but miss you very much...don't stop blogging...at least give us a once a week wrap up :)

Misty,
I realize I'm relatively new around here, but I have to say that you shouldn't apologize for paid posts. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do, and if people can't move their finger enough to scroll past them, then maybe they should take up the stupifying hobby of watching paint dry. ( I know there are other reasons to hate it, but pretty much moving the index finger is the only effect it has on your readers....)

I also wouldn't worry about looking as if you're searching for pity when you're speaking the truth and using your own center to vent frustration.

You are a funny and kind woman and it's a joy to come here.

Willard

I hope things work out for you. Congratulations on the prize for the picture. It is excellent and I like it a lot!

It is hard to do what you have to & put off attending to your passion. I honestly can't remember when I last loved what I did. I think maybe working in a day care & the early years of going to school. Unfortunately for you, fortunately for me, you've taught me that one of the paths that I've wanted to follow isn't the dream I've thought it'd be. You've saved me from making a costly mistake, even if you're going through a rough time because of it. I hope you find the right balance for you soon. ((((((((hugs)))))))))

D...

Never give up your dreams, Misty Dawn. Remember, God's time-line isn't always our time-line.

Sorry I'm so late on this! I love the new look of your blog. Did you design it?

byrningbunny

Congratulations! Who is the horse? Good luck on your continued search for online work.
