Y'all have listened to me whine and complain about the excessive amount of rain and storms we have been getting. Y'all probably think I'm exaggerating, don't you? You probably think I'm just whining about a few storms, because I missed a few photo walks.(c) Misty DawnS

Honest, I'm not exaggerating. I don't think we have gone a full 48 hours without rain for over two months! Our fields look like ponds. Most of the farmers have lost all the corn they planted, along with all the fertilizer a.k.a. money they put on that corn. Now, they are marking their corn as a loss, hiking up their bib-overalls, and attempting to get on with their farming lives. This means, it is time to plant beans. However, they can't get in the fields to plant, because it is too wet!

Believe it or not, we actually have not had rain since Saturday. So, if you were to come out to my neck of the woods a.k.a. The Middle of Nowhere (turn left at the cow), you would see tractors attached to mowers, discs, rakes, or balers in pretty much any field you looked at. That's where Hubs is right now, as a matter of fact. He's out trying to bale some hay before we get rain again.
(c) Misty DawnS

And, just in case, you still think I'm exaggerating, let me tell you about Friday. We left at 2 a.m. to take my step-son to the airport in Kansas City. While in the city, we visited some stores, because we don't have those things out here... stores, that is. When we walked into Best Buy, I grabbed my husband's arm, and said "Can you smell it? Can you smell the beauty of Best Buy? Oh, it's electronic Heaven!" Meanwhile, the store personnel were looking at me like they were considering calling security. But, anyway - I got a bit off topic there (that's what happens when I start thinking about electronics). The point of the story is - what should have been a 2 1/2 hour trip home turned out to be much longer, and we did not arrive home until 9 p.m. You ask 'why'? Well, since you asked - it is because we had to turn around and backtrack several times, because the nagging wife that I am did not approve to her husband driving her precious vehicle through the flooded waters which was drowning over the roads.
Still think I'm exaggerating? Look at this...
(c) Misty DawnS

Yes, that is a billboard... which means it should be up high in the air. I bet when they put that billboard up, they didn't realize that it would appear that the Grand River Inn was in the middle of water. How appropriate.

Camera-Critters #12

(c) Misty DawnS

I'm quite pleased with this photo. What I'm particularly pleased with is the composition - how the dragonfly decided to rest on a pretty flower, and how the flower is showing through this Blue Dasher Dragonfly's wing. I saw it land on the flower, so, I sat down on the ground and continue to inch closer to it. I would take a photo (so I could avoid the regrets of missing the shot if it happened to fly away), then I would scoot myself a little bit closer, take another photo and scoot closer. Eventually, I ended up with this shot. I bet you are all now picturing me sitting on the ground scooting on my butt through the weeds with a camera to my eye *giggle*

Yesterday, we took my step-son to the airport in Kansas City so he could fly back home. Then, we went to some stores, since there aren't stores around here. We went to a Best Buy and a Circuit City, and I drooled over held the 'dream camera' in my hands. I caressed it and said sweet nothings to it explored it's menus and functions and was even able to
take some photos with it and compare it to several other cameras. Now, I am confident it is the camera I want. I know I will have a learning curve if I ever do get a dslr, such as settings, depth of field, lighting, and composition. However the first step is making sure you get a camera which feels good in your hand - a camera you feel comfortable with... I've found that camera... now, I just need to figure out how to get it from 'living' at the store to being a permanent extension of my hand ;-) I'm still saving every extra cent I get (when it doesn't have to go to bills). I even passed on buying any birthday gifts for myself (Yes, it was my birthday on Thursday - I am now 33 years old), because I wanted to save money towards the camera. G, I sound a bit like I'm feeling sorry for myself, don't I? I don't like when I sound selfish or greedy, so I'm going to shut up now - enjoy the beautiful dragonfly.

Need a Boat

It has rained stormed ALL.Night.Long for two nights in a row now.
Not only am I personally sick of the rain for my own selfish reasons - no photo walks, there is flooding all around us.

A town nearby got nine inches of rain from Tuesday night. And, a town a little bit further got 12 inches - yes, that's a foot of rain! I don't know what everyone got from last night's storms, but I'll surely find out, since I work in a shop and farming guys like to talk weather.

My sister-in-law and her in-laws (they live on the same road) are flooded in... they can't even get out of their driveways.

I'm thinking if this keeps up, we are going to have to consider going somewhere else... but I'd much rather go back to Ohio for the reunion this weekend ;-)

Heads or Tails *Line*

Heads or Tails has its very own home now! If you click on the graphic above, it will take you to the awesome new HoT blog where you can sign up and start participating in this fun and popular meme!

This week's theme is "Line".

Some of you may know this, but some of you may not (hehe). The hostess of Heads or Tails, Barb aka Skittles, is one of my closest friends. We were friends before she started HoT, so I was there to watch, admire, appreciate, and respect all the hard work and effort she put into this meme to make it such a success. She inspired me to come up with Camera-Critters - the weekend meme I host. When I told her my idea, she did nothing but encourage me and offer any help or advice she had to offer.

So... to get to the point of this whole post (hehe - I tend to ramble, don't I?!?!)...
This week was #11 for Camera-Critters, and we had 95 (YES that is NINETY-FIVE) Camera-Critters participants! (I'm still working on visiting everyone's posts - please be patient with me) I am honored and touched beyond words. Yes, y'all have made me speechless, which is quite an accomplishment ;-)

So... (Oh yeah, what way my point again??? Oh yeah - Line... line). The whole point of this post (hey, there's a point at the end of a line right? Isn't there? OK nevermind)... What I wanted to do with this post was ____________________ (see that line? hehe)

I wanted to drop a few LINES to ALL of the Camera-Critters participants, Barb - my special friend who encouraged me and inspired me, Tammy and Sanni - who both also encouraged me and provided much appreciated assistance, to say "Thank You!" Y'all have really made CC special, and I am grateful beyond words.

Camera-Critters #11

No, you don't have to tell me that this is not a critter. I'm very well aware of that.
However, this was created by critters and there will be baby critters in it.
(c) Misty DawnS

You see, I was innocently trying to get a photo of these beautiful birds, better known as Baltimore Orioles. I was very surprised that they were not flying away like they always had in the past. Instead, they kept flying back and forth above my head and chattering at me. When I finally saw that nest, I realized that, DUH! They were trying to tell me to get away from their nest.
(c) Misty DawnS

(c) Misty DawnS

Now, you are probably wondering what the following photo is all about. I mean, it's not a good photo at all, right? You are EXACTLY right! It is NOT a good photo. It is my reason #752,021 why I need a professional DSLR with better-quality zoom lenses. You see, if I had that, you would be able to see those two birds, which I think are hawks... but I'm not really sure, cuz I didn't have that spectacular zoom lens (*wink*)....... *sigh*
(c) Misty DawnS

I could talk to you about generators, but instead, I'm going to invite you to join Camera-Critters...

Doggone Coincidence!

Oh my gosh, I am totally shaking my head and cracking up laughing right now. Because I had about two minutes before my step-son and Hubs were ready for me to join in their card game, I just took this quiz that I saw at Tina's blog. The quiz is supposed to tell you what animal you were in your past life. All you do is put in your birthday (month, day, and year). Let me tell you, I could not believe my eyes when I saw the result........ OK, maybe the result was just a little TOO PERFECT! When I showed Hubs and my step-son, they both just started laughing, especially when they saw the picture which accompanies the animal I was in my past life ;-)

You tell me... What do you think???????

You Were a Dog

You are an excellent companion and a loyal friend.

A good protector, you smell trouble before it arrives.

What Animal Were You In a Past Life?

I'm still sitting here shaking my head. I mean, seriously, what are the odds that I would put in my birth date and get the results that I was a dog. And... in case you are wondering... I don't even likedogs at all!

As far as my birthday... It's right around the corner... next week, as a matter of fact ;-)
Wanna have a party? hehehe

Hub's New Toy

OK, it's not really a toy, because it will be used for work, but he sure seems tickled with it. No, this photo was not taken with a new camera... *sigh* hehehe Go ahead, say how beautiful and cool that tractor is. It's cute tough, eh? I don't know... what's appropriate to call a tractor?

Gotta go to work now... running late...

One year ago today, in an attempt to make one of my very best friends stop nagging happy, I picked up my laptop, did a search for a thing called Blogger, and step-by-step started something called a blog. I had no idea what I would do with it, but this friend insisted it would become an outlet and a passion for me. Since she had never steered me wrong before, I gave it a shot. As always, she was right, and I quickly became a BA (Blogging Addict).
(c) Misty DawnS

One year ago today, I began throwing my emotions, thoughts, ideas, and creative creations out into this thing called "The Blogosphere". What in the heck was I thinking? I was certainly setting myself up for rejection. These people, all around the world, would certainly laugh at me and wonder exactly why I thought they would care to read my words, see my photos, or share in my life.
(c) Misty DawnS

It wasn't long before I started developing friendships. These friendships were with people whom I had never seen in person or even heard the sound of their voice, but people who reached out and touched my heart just as strong as any relationship I had ever encountered. The power of these friendships inspired me and would evoke such emotion that I would be overwhelmed by how much these people had come to mean to me in such a short period of time.
(c) Misty DawnS

I found myself thinking, "I can't wait to get home and tell them about this." Or, eagerly booting up my computer to post a new photo or a new story. I found myself adding a long list of friends to my daily prayers. I found myself crying for my friends' losses, cheering for their accomplishments, and giving thanks for their blessings. I would anxiously wait for news from a doctor, eagerly anticipate the birth of a baby, and laugh at the antics of stubborn pets. I found my desire to share in my friends' lives was just as strong as my desire to have them want to share in mine.
(c) Misty DawnS

Now, I find myself at an overwhelming and hectic part of life, which has actually caused me to consider leaving The Blogosphere. This is not because I do not love it here, but because I have an overwhelming sense of guilt for not managing to find the time to regularly 'visit' these friends and let them know what they mean to me. However, for as many times as I have considered giving it up, I have found twice as many reasons of why I couldn't possibly completely step away. It has become too much a part of me. All of you have become too much of a part of me.

One year ago today, I thought I would develop a blog...
Instead, I found myself developing some of the greatest friendships
with which I have ever been blessed.

Camera-Critters #10

(Camera-Critters Capture Corny Caption - "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.")
(c) Misty DawnS

This, my friends, is one of my favorite photos I have ever taken. You see, last year, I continually saw these giant, gorgeous odonatas, whose technical name is "Common Green Darner" (Did I get that right, Bear?). However, I was always frustrated because I could never get a photo of one of these beauties, because they would just fly around like bright-blue mini-helicopters, and it seemed they would never sit still long enough for me to capture them in a photo. So, when I got this shot, I was practically skipping and doing cartwheels down the road on my return home (OK, maybe I was skipping, but there's not witnesses to testify to that). Anyway, this may just be a photo of a "yucky bug" to many of you. But, every time I look at it, I'm full of pride.

That's why I love it here. I love the very rural surroundings and the nature around me. It makes me happy to no end to know that I could just go outside with my camera and sit on my patio furniture and lose myself watching the birds, the insects, and the critters.

Now, if only the weather would cooperate! We have flood warnings/watches all over. I don't think we have had a full 48-hours without rain for over a month! In fact, today is supposed to be a very nice day. However, guess what is supposed to happen tomorrow... Yup, thunderstorms. UGH!

Birthday Bear!

Today is one of my very dearest friend's birthday!
Bear is a friend who has accepted my pleadings to share his photography knowledge with me.
He has put up with my countless nagging questions over and over again.
He has supported and encouraged me,
He has given up sleep to stay up talking to me when I was worried about a sick husband, a missing wolf, or any of my other excessive worries.
And, he has simply been there to be a friend for me.
Our friendship has become so much more than a 'friendship' -
It truly is a blessing.

So, Bear, lemme tell you what I would do for your birthday,
if the options were unlimited.

After your big surprise party (did everyone get their party invitations?)

I would make your birthday dinner, which would definitely include...

Meatloaf, deviled eggs, and extra sharp cheddar cheese cubes.

After dinner, I would have you open your gift...

Do you like it?

Then, we'd spend the entire next few days 'shooting' (armed with more cheddar cheese cubes and sandwiches-layered with Miracle Whip on both sides-for lunch)

Wouldn't that be the life (Wouldn't that be major bool, Bear?) ?

I may not be able to make that come true,
but I certainly hope your birthday
is as great as you are!

Camera-Critters #9

Yesterday was a long, hectic, and stressful day at work. So, my mind was wandering as I was driving down our road, almost home. Then, I saw something crossing the road up ahead, almost by our driveway. I thought, "Darnit Mokey - you worry me when you won't stay out of the road!" Then I thought - Whoa, something is wrong, because Mokey is walking really weird. My heart started beating faster as I worried that my kitty might have been hit or injured. (Yes, I still love her like crazy, even though she does have an attitude hehe). As I got closer, I breathed a sigh of relief when I realized it wasn't my pet after all. Then, I grabbed the cell phone, called the house, and told Hubs to come outside. Here's who was crossing the road...

(Corny Caption -Geesh, you can't even go lay your eggs in peace around here.)
(c) Misty DawnS

Then, I thought I'd go out for a walk today and see if I could get any shots I would want to use for Camera-Critters. That's when I found this big guy girl. There are snapping turtles EVERYWHERE! When I drive to and from work, I see them along the road. We think they must be going to lay the eggs.

(Corny Caption - My doc said walking is good for labor pains-I bit his nose off and told him to just 'walk off the pain')
(c) Misty DawnS

We all know a hundred reasons why the chicken crossed the road, but, I ask you -
Why did the Snapper cross the road?

I doubt they are 'running' to the store to get some Orovo detox. If I get many funny captions or "Why did the Snapper cross the road" answers, I'll do a post of all of them to reward my witty friends with some linky love.

Pet Talk

(c) Misty DawnS

I have a confession to make. Brace yourself for this, because it's a shocking admission...
I am addicted to animals. I know, you never would have guessed it about me, because I hide it so well. Yeah right.

You know how people carry photos of their kids or grandkids with them and whip those photos out at a moment's notice and proceed to talk on and on about their pride and joys? I do that too. Except, I do it about my pets. Most people get quite tired of hearing about Tag, Molly, Maggie, or Mokey. Does that stop me? Of course it doesn't!

Now, however, I have found a social networking site which was created for pet lovers! Not only can you join this site, add all of your pets and their photos and stories to your profile, and talk endlessly about pets to people who are there because they WANT to hear all about your pets - you can learn about pets and how to help them, read about pets in the news, and even find food and supplies. I applaud Zootoo for creating this pet social network, because its main focus is on helping pets. Since ALL of my pets are rescues and one of my dreams is to run an animal rescue, I take notice when someone else is doing something for the love of animals.

So, if you want to 'talk pets' to people who really want to listen, Zootoo is the place to be!

Let Me Sleep!

(c) Misty DawnS

See that cute kitty in the picture? Yeah, well, she isn't so darn cute in my eyes right now. You see - she had a litter of kittens about a week and a half, or so, ago. Before you ask me where the kitten photos are, I haven't found where she has them hidden yet... give me time, People! ;-)

Mokey has always had a bit of an attitude problem. OK, I'm understating that - she has a MAJOR attitude problem. Add to that the fact that Mokey has some Siamese in her (more attitude). AND, to add even more to it - for the past couple days, Mokey has been in heat. So, she has decided to stand under my bedroom window ALL night long for the past two nights and YOOOOWWWLLLL... over and over... and over again. This translates to Misty getting NO sleep, because her cat is outside the bedroom window whining and carrying on about 'needing some male interaction'.

I don't know what her problem is. She has never had a problem... umm.... finding 'friends' any other time. Heck, she made friends here in the new state before we did! I feel like setting her up a cat condo out in one of the buildings (way far away from my bedroom window). Then, maybe I'll get some sleep! ;-)
