Sky Watch Friday #11

I have something in the works right now that I've only told two bloggers about. It's not that I don't want the rest of you to know... it's one of those 'don't get your hopes up' situations. I don't want to look like a fool on my own blog again ;-) So, if something good happens, then I'll be sure to post. Otherwise, only two of my dearest friends will know that it just didn't work - and, I'm sure they'll still be proud of me for trying (and they'll be trying to give me the 'maybe next time' talk to try to make me stop beating up on myself). Anyway, this photo is involved... I'll let you know more in approximately a week or so.

It Was a WILD Party

Miss Year-old Maggie May has been a big bum today. She keeps mumbling (in doggy-speak) something about too many treats and too much partying.

Last night, after the party was over, I heard this splashing coming from my kitchen. It sounded like we had a kiddie-pool in there or something. I went in the kitchen to discover Maggie standing in the extra-large water dish. She was taking her paws and slapping them down in the water as hard as she could. She was obviously very amused at how she was turning the kitchen into a water park. Of course, Tag and Molly were looking at her like "Dude! Whether it's your birthday or not, you are SO going to get in trouble!"

I'm still working on the birthday-bash recap. I'm having a hard time getting all the stories straight. It seems that somebody spiked the doggy-punch...

And, from what I've been told, there was dancing on the tables and on the furniture. There was even a game of Frisbee going on inside the house! No wonder I found fur all over the place! There was fur and paw prints everywhere from in the bathroom sink to in front of the computer (apparently, some four-legged guests couldn't ignore their blogging addiction for the duration of the party).

Word has it that Princess and Louie were really tearing it up on the dance floor when "Who Let The Dogs Out" came on the stereo...

Many males were drooling all over themselves while swooning over the beautiful Jersey. What do you expect? I mean, she is The Furry Diva!

Sasha went home with Bert's phone number!

Oh, it was quite the event, I tell ya! I'll get the rest of the stories after Miss Maggie May catches up on her rest. Tag and Molly are more than willing to tell me some of the other things that went on, but they tend to be tattle-tails and try to get the puppy in trouble.

Oh, and wait until you see all the fabulous gifts that Maggie received! I've tried to explain to her that it isn't nice to brag about your gifts, but she insists on posting them all on here for everyone to see.

It's a Howling Good Time

Go ahead everyone - have some more cake

Don't forget to grab some extra treats for the blog-road too!

And don't forget your grab-bags. They're customize for humans, canines, felines, birds, reptiles, rodents... you get the idea

Also, Maggie May would like to extend a very special thank you to everyone who attended her doggy-bloggy-birthday-bash. She is having a howling great time and plans to tell all about it in her recap post tomorrow. She's off to go find something else at the party to chew on, but she wanted to tell all her doggy-bloggy-birthday-bash guests to grab the Unconditional Friendship Award, if you don't already have it :-)

Somebody turn the sound system up, would ya? "Hey Louie - Ya wanna dance? I hear you got the moves!"... "Who Let the Dogs Out?" Wooooof woof woof woof

Puppy Scissor Teeth

Give Maggie May a rawhide or a bone, and she looks at me like "Well, I'm supposed to chew on that. That kinda takes the fun outta it Mom."

Reasons we should buy penny stocks in doggy chew-toy producers:
1. Cords which have been the victim of the Puppy-Scissor-Teeth include - a lamp cord, a power saw cord, an extension cord, and our air conditioner cord (Don't freak out - ALL of these items were unplugged when they fell victim)

2. Other items which have been eaten by Miss Maggie May include:
A 2X2 board (chewed it right in half)
Mommy's favorite and warmest gloves
A pair of Mommy's boots
Three towels (they look like they were attacked by the largest moth invasion ever)
Several Tupperware containers
One Cicada (Yes, she ate a giant bug - right in front of me - it was lovely)
One pillow case (during the trip to move here - my dad and I told Hubs that we accidentally snagged it on something so the puppy wouldn't be in trouble hehe)
Several pair of shoe/boot strings (slices them right in half)
One beanbag chair (her most recent 'kill')
One pair of Mommy's sweatpants (darnit, they were sexy too)
Several ink pens
One dead baby snapping turtle (I have no idea where she found it - I just saw her running around with these little feet sticking out of her mouth)
One mole (she didn't eat it... just found it and put it in her mouth until Mommy pried her jaws apart)
A pair of Mommy's slippers
One end table leg

There are probably many more items that I am forgetting.
No, I am not a horrible dog-mommy, who lets my puppy run around chewing on and eating things she shouldn't. She's quick and she's sneaky (and those teeth are like weapons!). We've learned that we must puppy-proof every room before she can come in. We've also learned that nothing is safe... nothing. Monday night, she was trying to chew on the metal sink base!

Guess what she got for her birthday? Yep - chew toys! (But those won't be nearly as much fun, because she's allowed to chew on those)

The Rescue Day

I was sorting, packing, cleaning, stressing, and going insane trying to prepare for and move 750 miles away to a new state. Life was as busy and stressful as it could possibly be...
and then, I received a phone call from my dad's girlfriend (I call her 'Mama' - that's another story for another day).

When I answered the phone, I heard, "Misty, there's a lady here telling me that she needs to find a home for a 10 week old puppy and..."

I interrupted, "No way! There's absolutely no way I could be working with and training a puppy right now! I'm packing and sorting, and then there's the 750 mile drive. I just can't do it! So... ummmm... what kind of puppy is it?"

Mama excitedly replies, "But Misty! It's a Border Collie puppy, and she has to find it a new home! Otherwise, I don't know what she's going to do with it. Your dad and I can babysit if you have errands you need to do while preparing for the move. And, we'll find a crate for the puppy to travel in." (Is she good or what? Does she know how to get to me, or what?)

Border Collie puppy... needs new home... 10 weeks old... No - no - no I can't do it... just can't! I came up with all kinds of excuses and she shot them all down. (Yeah Mama, you're smooth)

I said one final - I just don't think I could do it right now, before hanging up the phone, because Mama had to get back to work.

I told Hubs about it, and laughed, "Yeah, like I need a puppy right now with everything else going on! I wonder what it looks like though... I wonder why she's getting rid of a 10-week old innocent puppy..." About that time, I noticed Hubs looking at me with that all-knowing and amused grin, "It's killing you, isn't it Misty? You want to go running and grab that puppy right up, don't you? Misty can't resist or turn down a dog, especially a dog in need."

"No!" I defended my abilities to stay strong, "No, I told her I couldn't do it. I don't want a puppy right now. I'd be crazy to get a puppy right now. I was simply just wondering about the details, that's all."

The rest of the day, I continued to wonder. So, I called Mama...
"OK, I HAVE to know why this lady is getting rid of a 10 week old puppy! I mean, she couldn't have had it long... what? About two weeks? Why is she getting rid of it? I must know."

Mama laughs, "I knew you'd call back."

"Oh yeah, just hush... so tell me why."

"Because she has a two year old toddler, and when the toddler pulls on the puppy's tail or hair, the puppy pulls the toddlers hair. So, she doesn't think it's fair to keep screaming at the puppy and the toddler all the time. So, she has to get rid of the puppy."

Me - "I have to go." Could not hear anymore... that would cause me to... NO - I did NOT need a puppy.

Hours passed and Hubs and I were watching TV, when I heard a truck pull in our drive. I instantly knew who it was (that sneaky little Mama!). I ran outside in my purple-fuzzy slippers and ran to the truck to hug my daddy. On the truck seat, between my dad and Mama, was this little black and white (and absolutely adorable) fur-ball. Seriously, that's what it was... a furball... with the cutest little face ever...
Yeah, not only did I totally melt, but so did Hubs.

My dad just kept repeating, "I told her not to bring that puppy home. I told her that you had too much going on. I told her that she shouldn't bring it home... And then, she brought it home, and I looked at that face, and I said - Oh man, Misty will never be able to resist this!"

Well seriously - who could??? The face... the soft puppy fuzz... the sweet puppy breath... the little puppy kisses... one ear standing up and the other one down. Yeah, that puppy totally knew she was cute - and she knew how to use it.

* More stories to come - along with party favors and treats. So, grab yourself a piece of cake and enjoy (Don't worry we have LOTS of cake - we won't run out) *

Doggy-Bloggy-Birthday-Bash Welcome

Welcome to Maggie May's Doggy-Bloggy-Birthday-Bash!

She is officially One-Year (a.k.a. 365 days) Old!!!

She is thrilled you could stop in for her party and promises there will be lots of fun things going on throughout the whole entire day!

Maggie wants to make sure to share the love (she's a sweet puppy like that). So, she asks that you sign the guestbook above so she can make sure to include you in the 'thank you and party recap' post on Thursday! (After she sleeps in and catches up on her rest - she's going to be quite the party animal today - yes, pun intended)

Puppy Pondering

As you know, my dream would be to run a dog rescue. Usually, we just joke about Misty having a dog rescue, but after having that Cattle Dog basically knocking on my door, I'm starting to wonder if the dogs don't already have me figured out as the rescuing type.

I also recently watched a dog show on TV. Molly and I love to watch dog shows together. What? Yes, Molly watches television! Anyway, I always start excitedly talking about all the various dog breeds I would love to have as a member of my family. Of course, Hubs and Molly just roll their eyes and attempt to ignore my obsessive "and an Australian Shepard, a Golden Retriever, a Great Pyrenees, a Boxer..." Hubs is just used to this behavior. Molly closes her eyes and just prays I am going to forget about these crazy ideas, because she thinks we already have two dogs too many.

You know me, I want dogs of all shapes and sizes, all colors and personalities. I'm only a tad out-of-control. One dog I would like to have is a Dachshund. No, don't go offering to send me free Dachshund puppies. Well, unless you really want to. There are miniature and standard Dachshunds. Just so you know, both sizes are adorable.

They are fairly small dogs, with the standard size only being 8-9 inches tall and weighing 16-32 lbs. There are also three types of coats on this breed: short-haired (as seen in the photo), long-haired, and wire-haired. They are smart dogs that learn quickly with the adequate time devoted to training (and some tasty treats, of course). Also, because of their small size, they a good indoor companion for someone with limited space. They are also a good companion for someone without an excessive amount of free-time, because the Dachshund does not require daily walks like some other breeds. Sometimes, just an inside game of ball will satisfy these cute dogs' exercise needs.

So, that's a little about the Dachshund dog breed. Did you like this dog breed review? Should I do more of these? Or, do you secretly wish I would just shut-up about dogs already? Be straight with me; I can take it.

Heads or Tails *Wonder and Wander*

One of my favorite bloggers, Skittles has started a Tuesday meme. It is LOTS of fun-so you'll wanna join us right away! If you click on the Heads or Tails logo - it will take you to the post to tell you more about the meme.

This week's topic is Heads - Wonder or Tails - Wander.

Each day I wonder what the weather will bring so I know if I'll be permitted to wander with my camera around my neck to allow me to try to capture some of nature's wonders.

But, right now, I'm wondering who will show up to the Doggy-Bloggy-Birthday-Bash and if I have enough treats, toys, and cake :-) I've got the blog all clean and prettied up just in time (Thanks again Sanni!!!)

So Much To Do

So much to do - So little time!

Oh my gosh - the big bash is the day after tomorrow. I've got to prepare and get ready.

I've got to get the decorations...

Wrap the gifts (because part of the fun of a doggy-gift is getting to rip the paper off, ya know)...

Oh man - the cake! Must get a white cake (doggies aren't supposed to have chocolate)...

Oh and the music... you know, so we can all have a big ol' howling (and meowing and chirping) good time...

Gotta get the gift bags together... and the slideshow.... and the toys...

I've got a lot to do! A doggy-mom's work is never done!

Housework?
Schoolwork?
Administrative Assistant work?
take time to eat?
take time to sleep?
Pay the bills so our electric isn't turned off and our term insurance isn't cancelled?
Don't these people know I have to arrange for the most perfect and fabulous doggy-bloggy-birthday-bash in less than TWO days!!!
It must be perfect, because she deserves it... even if she does eat everything I own, smell like a skunk, and get muddy paw prints all over my house... she makes up for it when she looks at me with that cute-little "You still love me, right?" look on her face.

Plans... arrangements... preparations... ACK - I've gotta go.

Give Me Five Monday *Favorite Seasonal Activities*

My friend Becca started a new Monday meme called Give Me Five Monday. The 'Give Me Five' Monday meme is designed to share fun information with each other in a simple short list! Here's how it works. Each week, she will put out a random topic from her list of topics and you share 5 answers of your choice on the given topic and link back to her! You can add photos, links or stories or just a simple list of your own of 5 things that relate to the topic as it pertains to you and your life experiences. It doesn't have to be in any order of importance unless otherwise specified. Go over to BeccA's Buzz and check it out!

This weeks topic is:
Give Me Five favorite things to do in your favorite season of the year.

This one should be pretty easy (and predictable) for me this week. My favorite season is Summer. I hate to be cold, and I get cold easily, so Summer is my favorite time of year.

I love to be outdoors, so my favorite things revolve around being outside.

1. Fishing - I started fishing as soon as I could hold a pole. There was no going back after that.

2. Camping - I love roughing it. I love cooking over a campfire and sitting out under the stars.

3. Nature Photos Walks - Yeah, I'm sure this one is really surprising for you.

4. Playing With The Dogs without having to put on 12 layers of clothes - Gosh, I keep coming up with these shocking answers, I know ;-)

5. Wearing Summer Clothes - I know this sounds like a strange answer, but I just love my summer clothing much more than winter pants and sweaters.

I also love to be able to have the windows open, go swimming, have bonfires, sit in a lawn chair and read a book (and throw a ball), and.... OH - it is only supposed to be five things... oops ;-)

Mortgage Refinance

When we moved here, I learned all about what it's like to have home improvements which need completed immediately. Some improvements or remodeling are things we would just like to do, but some are necessary tasks that need completed immediately. However, it always seems that these things become necessary at a time when money is tight, and you just do not have the extra finances to cover them. That is when home mortgage refinance or a home equity loan can be options to consider.

Refinance.com specializes in mortgage refinance and offers a convenient free instant refinance quote right on the home page of their website. This makes it easy to find out quickly if you would qualify and what rate you would receive on your loan. They also provide helpful refinance, amortization, and bi-weekly calculators so you can plan ahead and know if you can afford the payments and how long you will be making payments. They also offer debt consolidation and home equity loans so you can decide which type of loan would be best for your specific needs or circumstances.

With the way the mortgage rates fluctuate, you may realize that choosing the refinance home mortgage option may actually save you money in the long run by getting you a better rate on your loan than what you originally had. That's why sometimes refinancing can actually be a smart decision.

Do You Know What Wendesday Is?

Do you have it marked on your calendar? Are you coming to the doggie-bloggy-birthday-bash? Even if you can't make it... are you sending your pets? Every species is welcome - hoomans, doggies, kitties, birdies, gerbils, and even exotic pets... everyone is welcome. Don't worry this will be a completely friendly bash, where all creatures respect and embrace diversity... the kitties don't need to worry bout the doggies... the birdies don't need to worry bout the kittes... you get the idea. There will be lots of yummy treats and stuff to chew on, cuz the birthday girl certainly loves to chew. Sure hope you can stop by on Wednesday. There will never be another first birthday for this Doggy-Bloggy-Beauty.
It's almost party-time!

In fact... I happen to know that my mommy has been planning some very cool surprises...

Still Trying

(c) Misty DawnS

I've been putting all my efforts into finding more ways to earn enough of an income from home. It's clear that I am not earning enough right now, and if I don't change that, I'm afraid I will probably be giving up blogging. It's not that I want to give up blogging, but I know my limits. I know that in order to find full-time employment which will bring a good income around here, I will have to drive about 40 minutes to get to work. When you add up the drive to the eight or nine hours at work, and then add in the normal things that need done at home, I am realistic enough to know that I will not have the time or energy left to continue blogging.

However, I haven't given up yet. I continue to work as a Virtual Assistant for the lawyer. That is working out wonderfully for both of us. However, with him as my only client, the virtual assistance income is not enough. I've been doing paid posts, which I know a lot of people do not agree with, but it's another way to add income, and I try to make all of my posts of good quality. I realize that many people don't agree with the decision to do paid posts, and I can only hope and pray that you will understand why I have made that decision and still enjoy my blog.

I've considered many ideas which would involve photography, but those will have to wait. Yes, I'm trying to learn patience. There seems to be interest in my photos. So, someday, when I have a professional camera, I will reach for that dream (I've even been going through my house trying to find things to sell so I can take a step towards that dream - Anybody want some really nice books? laptop bags? How about craft supplies? hehe). When talking to my father-in-law on the phone this morning (He called because he was 'thinking of me and missing me'), he stated "That's your dream, and you have what it takes to do it. You can't give up on that."

On a better note, I received a certificate in the mail the other day. It stated I had won Third Place with the above photo in my college's art competition. That was a nice surprise, because they had originally told me in an e-mail that I had received Honorable Mention, but the e-mail was wrong, and I had actually won Third Place.

My husband is gone for the day. He went to pick up a hay rake he purchased. So, he now should have the equipment he needs to make hay for the cattle and get back to the farming life.

It's a bright and sunny day here today (finally). So, I will be taking advantage of having some time to myself by blogging excessively catching up on my friends' blogs and going for a few walks with the camera. A camera is like a dog, ya know, it requires daily walks ;-)

As an end-note, I am not looking for pity by writing this post - Sometimes I just need to write to get it out of my head and try to gain some perspective.

Hopefully, I'll be posting some photos for you later today!

Dog Day Without Dad

Hubs went to a farm sale today with his brother-in-law. That's great with me - I'm glad they are hanging out together and enjoying each other's company in the negative-umpteen below zero temperatures - yup, go ahead guys have a great time!. However, Tag (HIS and only his dog) is NOT happy that 'Dad' left without him. I wake up... just get a cup of coffee... say "bye"... Hubs pulls out the drive... Tag commences acting as if he is being murdered. Literally - murdered. He paced... he cried... he did his normal "heh heh hehehehehehmmmmmmmmmmm" (which is REALLY annoying by the way)... and then - then - he started doing this doggie-scream!

I'm telling you... it was a scream. I could hear him screaming "oh Dear Doggie-Gods, my Daddy has lllllleft me! He went to work without me - I just know it! Oh Dear Doggie-Gods ppppppplease make this house explode right now so I can go running down the road at warp speed to convince my Dad to take me with him! Pppppppplease! Dog-nabit House - blow up!"

It was honestly the most pitiful and flipping annoying thing (remember, I just woke up) - Even Molly and the puppy were looking at him like "Dude! Take a chill-pill already! He'll be back for crying out loud! Man have you got issues!"

I tried explaining to the unreasoning, compulsive, psychotic, obsessed dog that his Daddy honestly did NOT go to work without him (You see, this is truly Tag's concern. Tag. Must. Work. - Molly and Maggie just want to live, eat, be loved, and play. But Tag - Tag. Must. Work! Tag will give up any of the necessities in life so that he can be 'working').

I explained, "Taggy, Bubby-Boy - listen to me. Daddy did NOT go to work! Daddy went somewhere where there are a bunch of people. Oh yeah! You do NOT like people, do ya Tag?!?! Remember how much you hate non-daddy humans??? Nope- you don't like people, and they don't like you! So, ya see - it's a doggone good thing you didn't go. You just stay here with Mommy for today! OK then" - Commence doggie pacing, barking, yelping, whining, and screaming... again... ALL day long! This type of carrying on makes it extremely hard to keep from completely losing your cool concentrate, research eco products ,and continue with your normal daily activities. Trust me - it is enough to initiate a severe migraine and cause the blood vessels in your head to explode quite distracting.

When we went outside in the negative temperatures, I opened the door to the building and showed Tag... "See Bubby! The skid-loader! It's in there... all safe and sound... not started up or performing work. You love that skid-loader, don't you? You see Daddy's truck with the trailer hooked on it, Bub?? See! I told you Daddy wasn't working! He's hanging out around a bunch of people. Remember how you hate people?!?! See, I told ya! Come on - let's go back inside where it's warm!" (commence pacing, whining, and the 'heh heh heeeeeh hmmmm heeeeeemmmmmmmm' - but, luckily, no more doggy-screamin').

The words 'issues' or 'obsessed' do not even begin to describe my Hub's boy. If he knows Hubs is far away and not coming back for a good, long while - then that dog will take care of me - he'll watch over me - he senses when I'm sick - he cuddles with me - he protects me - he OBEYS me - he truly, truly LOVES me. If Hubs is within -ohhhhh I'd say.... 700 miles - Tag looks at me like "Who the heck do you think you are? My Dad is ALL that matters, Woman!"

Message in a Bottle Meme

Sandee from Comedy Plus has tagged me for the Mimi's Message In a Bottle Meme.

Here are the rules:

You are about to send a virtual Message In a Bottle across the Blog Ocean. Leave a message in the sand or on the bottle. Write anything you wish. Be a pirate or a poet. Serious or silly. Anonymous or not. What message would you like to send out to the universe?

Leave it to Mimi to threaten and intimidate us with the dungeon come up with these really fun and awesome memes to do. Gosh, there are so many messages I would like to send... so many relevant things. For example - "Everyone is beautiful" - That's true, you know. Society has us thinking we need to be altering ourselves physically, when, truth is, each one of us is already unique and beautiful.

Then, there's my favorite quote from a movie (Shawshank Redemption) - "You've either got to get busy livin' or get busy dyin'." I love that quote, and I don't think I've been taking that advice lately.

There's also my own motto - "You have to choose to either become it or overcome it."

However, when I woke up this morning, grabbed a cup of coffee, took disgusted note that the temperature is -3, and sat down to do this meme, a beautiful black and white, furry face looked up at me and decided to tell me good morning. As I listened to the "Arrrooooo Yawwwww Rooooo" (that translates to "Good morning, Mommy. I love you."), I realized that my message in the bottle could only say one thing...
I am tagging everyone on my blogroll. Heck, I'm tagging everyone who reads this post...
Send your message in a bottle :-)

Small Business Loans

When you are starting your own business, there are so many things to take into consideration. Of course, since money is required to start and run a business, getting small business loans is usually the main concern. AFSLoans wants to help in the process of funding your new business. They charge no application fee and have none of those sneaky hidden fees. Small Business Loans have been on my mind lately, because my husband and I have been talking about a certain business venture. The business we are considering will require finding an adequate building to serve our needs. With AFSLoans, we can complete a 30-second pre-application to find out how much we could be approved for. Yet, there is no obligation behind that pre-application, so we could take our time and would not feel like we had to make a fast decision.

What type of small business would you like to start?

The Book! The Book!

Y'all remember when I told you about my favorite author?
She writes the Wilderness Series as Sara Donati
and also publishes under her real name Rosina Lippi.

Do you remember when I told you her new book was coming out on Valentine's Day, and I could hardly wait?

Well, she is now holding a meme contest. I need to come up with a caption for the following photo to enter the contest. So, here's my entry...

After much anticipation of the release of her favorite author's new book, when it was finally placed in her hands, she became frozen with excitement.

So, that's my entry. I don't expect to win the contest, but I want to promote her new book. I have such a strong belief that if I can convince you to read her books, you will absolutely love them!

Here's the book that was released on Valentine's Day:
Did I mention that I would receive a signed copy if I were to win the contest?!?! I'd have to buy another copy to actually read, because the signed copy would have to be protected and treasured!

Y'all know how I feel about my books. Yes, yes, it's an addiction - I admit it, but I just can't stop. ;-)

That'll Cover It

I saw this over at Rachel's and thought I'd try it. Let me tell you - This was WAY too much fun!!! Like I needed something else to get addicted too (hehe).

But, honestly though... you'd buy this magazine right? You'd be strolling through the rows of magazines and see this cute cover and wouldn't be able to resist making the purchase and taking this magazine home with you... right? And, well, it should be a real magazine cover, because not only is it totally cute, but just look at the top headline - it reads "Top 10 Most Popular Pets"... Well, duh! What's more popular than a puppy who is the star attraction in the header of a blog in the gigantic blogosphere?!?!

What about this awesome wolf in the woods? Would you be able to resist purchasing this magazine to learn all about how this huge lovable lug wild wolf prefers his meat cooked and covets stuffed animals survives with only a king sized bed to sleep in in day-to-day life?

Seriously - the magazine publishers don't know what they are missing!

Talk To Ya Later

The sun is shining and the temperature is above freezing. We are under another severe weather alert for later today though. That means I need to take advantage of what Mother Nature is giving me right now - So, of course, I'm going for a walk. I'm going to lose myself in nature and photography for awhile.

Meanwhile, I'll leave you with this. This is another one of my favorite groups. I could listen to this song over and over again and never grow tired of it (actually, I could do that with many of their songs)...

Little Big Town - Boondocks

Pet Memorial Products

In case you haven't noticed, I'm absolutely crazy about my dogs. Yes, even when the littlest one is emitting a horrible stench.

Unfortunately, though, I have to face the fact that I will outlive my precious companions. I often joke that my dogs are going to be the longest living dogs ever, because I don't want to admit to myself that some day they will not be around for me to talk to, love on, and cherish. However, they will always live on in my heart.

Pet memorial products are now available for those who want to memorialize their pet. In fact, I had a friend, whom I met through a Border Collie forum, who purchased portrait pet memorial urns when she lost two of her pets within a short amount of time. I have to admit that, at the time, I was completely turned off by the whole thought of it. I believed that if I purchased such an item, it would completely break my heart all over again each and every time I looked at it. However, the more I've thought about it, I've come to realize that we memorialize people and pets in photos and, after losing a loved one, we often look at those photos to remember the happy times and smile. Photo pet urns make perfect sense to me when I think of it in those terms.

Although I'm still unwilling to think about like without my fur-kids, I have developed a different opinion on doing something to forever memorialize your pet.

Puppy Perfume

(c) Misty DawnS

Oh my DAWG! Did you hear what happened? Mommy is NOT very pleased - I am just really thankful it wasn't me (giggle bark, giggle bark... howl) - it was that crazy puppy!

Picture it (cuz you sure as heck don't wanna smell it!!!)...
I went to sleep after 2 a.m. because I was gossiping with Tammy blog hopping intellectually stimulating my mind...
At 5 a.m., I am awakened to a horrendously nasty odor filling my nostrils...
I lie there wondering - "Did I leave the crock pot on and the house is on fire?" (aren't you impressed with my lack of racing out the door nekkid, rather, I just lay there and wonder if I'm going to go up in flames... hmmmm
Finally, I think - "SKUNK!!! I smell skunk. Yep, there must be one outside. But wait, why the heck am I smelling it inside?"
I trudge out to the living room where Hubs in lying with his face stuffed as far into the couch cushion as he can possible get it.
"Hubs?"
I hear a very muffled "hmmm?"
"Hubs, is there a skunk outside?"
Hubs rolls over, coughs a bit, and asks, "Why? Can you smell it?"
Ummmm - if you are asking if my brain is swirling and getting dizzy from the horrible stench - then, yes, I can smell it!
Hubs replies "Oh." and proceeds to shove his face back into the couch cushion.
I shrug and go back to bed. Within minutes, Hubs is standing there - "I can't sleep in there! It stinks!"
"Hubs? What is going on?"
"The puppy got sprayed by a skunk."
"And you let her in the HOUSE???"
"I didn't know she had been sprayed, I just thought there was a skunk outside. As soon as I smelled it, I took her back out to the equipment building."
Commence Google searches for how to get rid of skunk stench!
Never a dull moment, I tell ya.

Sky Watch Friday #9

(c) Misty DawnS

I really am not wanting to post so soon after the birthday post for my grandfather. I always fear that if I post too soon, people won't read the previous post, and that bothers me when it is a post which is important to me like the previous post is. So, I'll make this short and sweet and hope that this Sky Watch photo will cause people to want to explore my blog a little more :-)

In Loving Memory

For the man who, at retirement age, agreed to take in and raise a two year old little girl wearing no shoes and a dirty diaper;

For the man who played school with his granddaughter;

For the man who sat her on his knee and taught her all the silly songs that Grandma would tell her not to repeat;

For the man who watched his granddaughter dance around to Bon Jovi on the hardwood living room floor when the carpet was being replaced;

For the man who would sit for hours so his granddaughter could show him what could be done with a computer, although he had no understanding of them at all;

For the man who built a desk, exactly as she wanted it, with no blueprints for reference, for that computer;

For the man who used to tell everyone he knew that his granddaughter was going to be the first woman president, because she was so smart (Sorry Grandpa, politics just aren't my thing);

For the man who used to tickle his granddaughter's feet while he sat in his chair watching television;

For the man who taught his entire family that the most important thing in life is family;

For the man who always stood behind his word and considered a handshake an unbreakable promise;

For the man who never met a stranger and earned the respect of everyone who knew him;

For the man who taught me to never give up on dreams;

For the man who gave me a life to be thankful for; values and morals I am proud of; and love and respect for others;

For the most influential man in my life...

I love you, Grandpa - Happy Birthday. I miss you more than words can express, but I also feel you and Grandma with me every day. Thank you for that - thank you for always being with me - I hope I make you proud.
Love, Misty Dawn

(This photo was taken on my wedding day. My grandpa had told me that I could get married in his home (where I was raised), but he would not be able to attend. He stated that he needed to be with Grandma at the nursing home, and he was sorry, but he would be there in spirit. My husband and I refused to accept that - So, we planned the wedding for when we knew Grandpa would be home for lunch!!! Sneaky, I know - but my grandpa taught me that when you want something bad enough, you've got to work hard and not give up on getting it.)

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO ALL MY VERY SPECIAL BLOGGING FRIENDS - I LOVE YOU ALL!

Songs In My Head

I discovered this song by accident quite awhile ago. Today, I wanted to hear it. So, I decided to post it here. Funny thing is, I've never heard any of her (Kasey Chambers) other songs, but this one spoke to me the first time I heard it (still does). I may post more videos in the future, just to get everyone's opinions - maybe you'll suggest some music or an artist that I didn't know!

Also, here's a song that is one of my favorite songs ever (by my favorite group ever). I think the Harry Potter fans will appreciate this video, although, I have to hang my head in shame and admit that I have not read any of the Harry Potter books (I plan on it though, so don't stone me!)...

RAW Disappointment

(c) Misty Dawn

The other day, I mentioned that I allowed myself to get overly excited about something, which, in turn, caused me to get seriously disappointed. I'll tell you what happened.

I spoke with the editor of a local magazine, and he asked me to send him some photos for a possible cover photo on the next issue of the magazine. Well, as you can imagine, was so excited I could hardly type the e-mail to send him samples of my work. Unfortunately, I was informed that my photos are not at a high enough resolution for inclusion in magazines, calendars, etc. For anyone who has had success at professional photography, you already know that the images should be shot in RAW. Unfortunately, I do not have the capability to shoot in RAW format with my camera. I only have myself to blame for my disappointment though, because I allowed myself to get overly excited and believe that my photos were good enough. I shouldn't have done that.

Now, I'm making myself be optimistic. Eventually, after the hay equipment and cows are purchased, the home improvements are finished, and I discover a way to make more money, I will own that Canon camera. Then, I will enjoy more photo-walks and possibly get some photos, in RAW format, that would be good enough for publication. It's not a guarantee that I will capture photos good enough for publication or professional photography, but, for now, I'm not willing to give up on that dream.
