A Letter to Mother Nature

Dear Mother Nature,
Oh behalf of my own addicted to nature-photo walks-self and ALL the farming residents of this small, struggling county of Missouri... Please, if you can find it in your heart... just...
GIVE US A BREAK ALREADY!
Yours truly,
Misty Dawn

This is how Sunday looked.
Pretty, isn't is?
I thought so.
I thought it was a beautiful day.
(c) Misty DawnS

THEN - Sunday looked like this...
(c) Misty DawnS

Not so pretty, is it?
I didn't think so, but it sure became interesting when...
(c) Misty DawnS

... it started looking like THIS.
Like what?, you ask?
See those white things in the yard?
Look closely...
(c) Misty DawnS

THOSE white things...
those are hail stones.
Hail stones - some of which were BIGGER than BASEBALLS!
(c) Misty DawnS

Of course, I ran from window to window trying to get some decent photos.
Hubs and I have never seen hail this large.
When one would hit the window, it would cause me to leap backwards.
It was quite the experience.
(c) Misty DawnS

Bigger-than-Baseball-Sized Hail and a few dents in my vehicle later...
the skies went back to just looking threatening.
(unless you consider all the tornado warnings)
(c) Misty DawnS

(c) Misty DawnS

(c) Misty DawnS

And that was that.
We've had SO much rain and flooding here.
80-year-old farmers come into my work and tell me that they have never...
ever seen it like this. They tell me it flooded in 1993, but it was not a
- consistent, non-stop, can't get a break, raining every other day,
9 inches in 24-hours (on SEVERAL occasions), all the crops are destroyed, and
you can't even get into your fields let alone plant anything year like THIS year is.
And now - Hubs and I have not only seen the wettest year that anyone
around here can remember - we have also seen
ice-baseballs falling from the sky.

The score?
Mother-Nature is winning
She's like 32 (inches) or so ahead ;-)

Heads or Tails has its very own home now! If you click on the graphic above, it will take you to the awesome new HoT blog where you can sign up and start participating in this fun and popular meme!

This week's theme is "Doctor".

I think I'd both love and hate to have him as my doctor in real life :-) He just has that effect on people.

If I am correct, all new episodes (Season 5 Premier) begin in September. I don't know the exact date (if someone knows - tell me, please... tell me, please... tell me... OK, you get the idea), but you can bet that I'll find out, and I'll be watching :-)

Tune in to this blog...
Same station different time (sometime this evening)...
to find out what in the heck this picture below is all about.

Until then... I'm off to work.

Eye to the World of Business Professionals

(c) Misty DawnS

If you have a business or are a serious professional and are looking for exposure over the World Wide Web, you might want to check out LookupPage, which is a website that provides search engines of professionals.

This website provides a people search, which can be an 'eye to the professional world' for those looking for a business expert in a particular field. (Yes, now you realize why I chose the above photo).

For instance, if I were interested in starting a photography business, and was in search of a professional website designer for my website portfolio, I could check the professional online profiles to find the right person for me to develop a business relationship with to help me gain in my business.

If you are in need of, or are one yourself, a serious business professional - you'll want to research this site.

Camera-Critters #16

THE
STORY
OF THE
FUZZY
LIL'
YELLER
CAPALILLAR

Once there was a cute, fuzzy, lil', yeller capalillar, who realized he was very bored.
So, he decided to go out and play.

First, he decided to do chin-up exercises so he wouldn't stretch a muscle while at play.
A one... and a two... and a one... and a two.
(c) Misty DawnS

All those chin-ups make for a hungry fuzzy, lil', yeller capalillar.
So, he decided to have a little snack.
Not to be called "lazy", he decided to continue his stretching exercises while snacking.
Mmmm Mmmmm Good!
(c) Misty DawnS

But, the fuzzy, lil', yeller capalillar was lonely.
A day at play is ALWAYS better when shared with a friend.
"Hey Buddy! Wanna play Follow the Leader?"
"Follow ME!!!"
(c) Misty DawnS

Nuthin makes for a better day than spending it with a friend.

Rant About Depression

(c) Misty DawnS

I'm going to talk about that "d" word again... Depression. It sucks. For anyone who feels that Depression is 'a state of mind' or something you can control, you might as well stop reading this post now, because I'm saying you are full of sh*t.

One day, you can be going along, living your life, and actually feeling good about things... feeling like your life is just how you want it to be... like you are quite happy.

Then, within a day's time, a few hour's time, or even a few minutes, your gut feels like there are rubber bands strangling it, like you need to bawl your eyes out and you don't know why, but it doesn't matter anyway, because you just can't cry... you're empty. You feel like your dreams will never come true - you were stupid for ever believing they could anyway - or, you were stupid for believing in yourself, for that matter.

Then, you get p*ssed at yourself because, logically, you know there is no reason for you to feel the way you are feeling right now, but it's a real feeling - that tightness, that fear, that anger, the panic, the tears - it's all real, but you have no freaking control over any of it.

Then, you are more p*ssed off because you can't control some invisible monster who shows up for no reason, whenever it feels like it, and turns your whole world upside down and makes you feel like nothing matters and like everything matters too much all at the same time.

Then, you feel weak, because you feel like you should be stronger than this - like you should be able to stand up to that monster and convince yourself to feel the happiness and the confidence you felt just a few short moments ago.

Then, you just want to go hide somewhere... away from everyone, because you are embarrassed, ashamed, and you feel like you aren't worthy.

The only redeeming thing is that, eventually, at some point, the monster hibernates for a short while and allows you to go on living your life again. However, when the monster attacks, you can't envision that 'redeeming moment'... all you can do is feel like it's never going to end - like you are trapped - and it's just not fair.

It's really not fair, because you didn't ask for this. You don't sit around and think "Oh Gee, I think today is a great day to feel like crap and like I'm worthless and like I am being strangled by emotions I can't control or overcome."

No, you don't choose it.

It's not fair.

Why am I writing this post? I don't know... maybe to let people know I understand... maybe to just get it written down and out of my head... maybe because I just felt like it needed to be 'explained' this way, right now... as I said - I don't know. I just wrote it, and that's that.

I could go join a wine of the month clubs, but that doesn't solve anything. Besides, I'm more of a beer girl anyway ;-)

P.S. I promise my next post will be more fun and happy - I just felt I needed to say this - I get that way sometimes.

Heads or Tails *Sit or Stand*

Heads or Tails has its very own home now! If you click on the graphic above, it will take you to the awesome new HoT blog where you can sign up and start participating in this fun and popular meme!

This week's theme is NOT acne treatment cream, it's "Sit" OR "Stand". So, being my normal self, I'll tell ya a little story ;-)

On Saturday, Hubs worked all day on hay. Raking hay, baling hay, stacking hay... I don't know how he can stand it in the one tractor cab, because the air conditioning isn't working, and, trust me, it was hot. You'd sweat just sitting still.

So, that evening, I went to pick him up at a farm down the road, and he asked me to sit in the passenger seat so he could drive. I thought this was weird since we were only going one minute down the road to our home.

However, he passed our driveway...
"Where are we going?" I asked
I can't stand not knowing what the plan is or where I'm going.
I found out soon enough though, when we drove through one of our fields and ended up at our new pond.
I was on the phone with my dad at the time, who said, "Mist, don't just sit there! Go jump in the pond!!!"

So, we went skinny dippin'. Ah, the joys of livin' in the country. (c) Misty DawnS

Must Be Organized

(c) Misty DawnS

I've been having a blast with the DSLR. The only problem is I have a habit of taking a LOT of photos and figuring I'll pick the best one later and delete the rest. However, when it comes time to do that, I don't delete them. I've always been like that. I still have about fifty floppy disks (probably half bad by now) full of photos from when I had my first digital camera my aunt gave me.

So, since I can't afford an external hard drive right now (all the big bills came due at one time - why does that always happen?), and I seriously need to get these large files off my laptop, I'm going to burn the photos to DVD. Here's my problem - I'm a bit OCD when it comes to this sort of thing. I.Must.Organize.the.Photos.in.the.Best.Manner. So - should I organize the DVDs by subject (sunsets, dogs, insects, flowers, landscapes, etc.) or by date taken? Oh, decisions, decisions!!! I don't do well with decisions! How 'bout you guys decide for me... that will make it much easier on me ;-) Besides, I've already got a headache I woke up with at 3 a.m. and I'm trying to avoid a migraine (hoping and praying against a migraine).

Camera-Critters #15

Have I ever mentioned that I love it here? OK, maybe I have too many times once or twice, but I'm saying it again. I miss my family and friends so much I can physically feel it, but as far as this area is concerned, I love it here. I love that I can just walk in my backyard and, rather than seeing a bunch of houses, I see this...

(c) Misty DawnS

Or, if I walk a little bit further on our property, and pay close attention, I find this...
(c) Misty DawnS

And, if I pay even closer attention, I can notice this...
(c) Misty DawnS

You really have to pay close attention, or you might miss something; such as this...
(this critter is waving to y'all. Can you hear it?
It is saying "Hellooooooo there wonderful Camera-Critters folks!")
(c) Misty DawnS

People think I'm crazy because I am such a homebody, but I don't care.
I'm just content here. Nope, no travel health insurance for me... Not when I can walk out the door of my home and see beauty all around me, such as this...

My Girl Mo

Meet my best friend - my apologies to ALL of my human friends, but I'm being honest here ;-)
Meet my heart...
Meet my soul...
Meet my girl 'Mo'...

(c) Misty DawnS

Molly came into our lives after I had rescued Tag, brought him home, and after a few days of working on the farm with 'Dad', he decided he would be Daddy's dog through and through. I'm not exaggerating - Tag cares about no one and nothing (except maybe the skid loader) other than 'Dad'. So, I pouted... I whined... I stomped up and down and threw a childish temper tantrum insisted that I deserved to have a dog who loved me. Finally Hubs got sick of listening to me felt sorry for me and gave in, and Molly came into our life. Molly and I were immediately, from the very first minute, a perfect match. She is truly Mommy's Girl. She sleeps by my bed; she follows me everywhere; she talks to me - many times she has appropriately verbally told me "Nooo!", "I know", and "Oh Noooo!" and she also will say "Mom".

Mo-Co (That's short for Molly-Collie, and, yes, she has many nicknames and answers to them all), doesn't care about livestock, tractors, or farming like Tag. She just cares about pleasing 'Mommy', which is why she posed for this pic.

(c) Misty DawnS

She desires to be with me and love me every waking minute. She knows she is not allowed to walk in the road, so she pouts when I go for a photo-walk. I swear if I had a Bob stroller, she'd jump in it and ride just so she could be with me.

Please, understand - I love, with ALL of my heart, ALL THREE of my dogs. I love Tag, even though he truly does prefer Daddy. I love Maggie May aka Puppy aka Doodles, because well, let's face it - who the heck could resist falling in love with that puppy up there in the header photo... she's a doll, and there is really NO way to resist falling in love with her. But...

My Molly...
My Mo...
My Molly-Collie...
My Mo-Co...
My Mo-Mo...
My "Sweet Girl", "Mommy's Girl", "Mommy's Shadow", whatever you want to call her...

(c) Misty DawnS

... She owns my heart.

People 'Round These Parts

(c) Misty DawnS

Before you ask - I have absolutely NO idea what this little bitty wildflower is technically called. You see, I was out walking around our pond, and I discovered this little beauty. It is quite an unusual flower to me, because it looks as if it is shriveled up, until you look closer to discover its real beauty.

Things have been absolutely crazy and hectic at work. I must admit, however, that I do enjoy the customers. I enjoy meeting and recognizing everyone. I enjoy listening to their conversations, whether they be about the weather, farming, the equipment they use in the fields, or the saddles they are using on their horses. I enjoy their small-town friendliness and sense of humor... such as when an elderly gentleman will give me a great big smile and say "Well Honey, it sure seems like your air conditioner isn't working very well today.", because he knows full-well that I have, in fact, no air conditioner, and he is just hoping my boss will overhear and make the office more comfortable. The people here are fantastic... true, genuine, funny, and caring. That's what keeps me going... the people and the beauty of this area.

Just Call Me MSG

(c) Misty DawnS

Hubs and I went to play pool on Saturday night. We always enjoy spending time together like that. However, things are different now, and Hubs gets a kick out of it...

We were shooting pool, minding our own business as usual, and I approached the bar to get a beverage. That's when it happened...

Some guy turns around as I'm approaching and yells, "HEY! It's the Mower Shop Girl! The Mower Shop Girl is here!"

It seems that everyone knows me now. Let's face it - around here - mowers, tractors, and hay equipment are of huge importance. I mean, I think they probably capitalize Hay Season and Mowing Season around these here parts.

So, another gentleman turns around and exclaims, "HEY, you're right! It IS The Mower Shop Girl!" As I was trying to find the nearest table to hide under attempting to order my beverage, I overheard him say to the other guy, "Yeah, she likes my dog."

Of course the word 'dog' caught ALL of my attention, and then it dawned on me... "HEY, you're the guy with the Border Collie who comes in and sits with me at my desk!" (ummmm the dog people, NOT the guy!)

This caused an uproar of laughter from many of the patrons standing around, as they razzed this gentleman... "Oh suuuuuure. She doesn't have a clue who YOU are, but she recognizes your dog!" (followed by more laughter and pointing)

I tried to make the guy feel better by telling him not to take it personally - it's just how I am - but, I don't think it helped much.

So, Hubs came to the rescue (if you can call it that) and started telling these guys how he thinks that, since I'm "The Mower Shop Girl" now, I should wear certain outfits at work. No, he wasn't talking about renaissance costumes; He was telling these guys that I should probably wear outfits like Heidi wore on the show Home Improvement.

The guys standing around the bar quickly and whole-heartedly agreed with Hubs, and the fact that I recognize furry-four-legged-farm-dogs rather than the farmer himself was forgotten.

Thanks Hubs...
I think.

Camera-Critters #14

(c) Misty DawnS

I met this critter while walking down the road earlier this week. As I was walking along, I saw this critter come out of the ditch on one side of the road and start making its slooooow trip to the other side of the road. So, I knelt down, introduced myself to P.T. (that's its name... short for Painted Turtle, of course), shot a few pictures, and then carried P.T. over to the other ditch, because I wanted to make sure this critter didn't make the acquaintance of one of those big, shiny things with rubber wheels. I then continued on my walk, and when I returned to the spot where I had left P.T., I smiled, because P.T. had continued on the journey (probably to our pond).

Could I Embarrass Myself Any More???

I can NOT believe I'm doing this. Oh my gosh, this is SO embarrassing! However, two of my best friends asked me to post these, and, if you know anything about me by now (other than my passion for photography and my excessive habit of rambling), you know that I do everything in my power to NEVER disappoint my friends. So... without further delay (because I might chicken out due to MAJOR embarrassment), I post, for my very dear friend Bear (and additional nagging encouragement from Tammy), the photos of Misty-Big-Hair-Stage and Misty-Poofy (shup Barb hehe)-Hair-Stage... then, I'm running to hide in a cave somewhere!

OK - the Big-Hair-Stage... Say it with me now... "Tease that hair!"
And... the Poofy-Hair-Stage... was this really "Cool"??? PLEASE tell me y'all did this too... you did, didn't you?
And, just to prove that I, did, at one point in my life anyway, in fact have chubby cheeks...
Holy crap... why didn't someone ever hold me down and pluck those caterpillars called eyebrows? Oh wait - someone did... when I was about 7 years old, and that's when I cried, rebelled, and swore I would never, ever pluck my eyebrows... then, I got married, and wanted to look 'pretty' and ... well, now I've tamed the caterpillars!

OK! That's IT! I'm DONE! NO more embarrassing "Misty was a complete dork" pics! No way... no more!

Oh, and by the way, I'm pretty sure these were not taken with a Nokia N810. In fact, I'm pretty certain they weren't even thought of yet!

Wait... Who Am I Again?

I has been one heck of a long, hot, tiring, and humid day! What's that you say? It ain't over yet... geesh, thanks for reminding me!

We have no air conditioning at work. That would be OK, except for the fact that we have NO fan or anything to provide air circulation at work, and I'm stuck at this desk in this corner, where the sun beats through the window and all the heavy humid air piles up there in that corner and tries to suffocate me. Not only that... but that humid air really messes with my brain too (maybe the fact that I was yelled at three times today by some not-so-very-small-town-country-farming-like people... cuz, small-town-country-farming people aren't mean to other folk, unless it's hay season and they are totally freaked out about whether they are gonna get their hay up before it rains or not and then their baler breaks down and then... what do they do? They call the repair place and yell at the secretary... makes perfect sense, doesn't it?).

So, I left work late, went to the tire shop to have my tire with a slow leak repaired, stopped at the grocery store, got home, and as soon as I walked in the door with my arms full of grocery bags, books, and, of course, my camera, the phone was ringing. So, I answered it...

"Mower Shop. No... wait... it's not... Ummmm Hello?"

Then, I grabbed my work for the Ohio boss off the fax machine, typed it up, proof-read it, and attached it to an e-mail to send to him. I was just ready to hit send when I stopped with my finger hovering over the mouse button... "Something just isn't right here" I thought to myself. I'm rather embarrassed to admit that it took me about a whole five minutes of sitting there staring at the e-mail before I realized that what wasn't right was the fact that I was getting ready to send my completed legal work for my Ohio lawyer boss to my BBFF Tammy!!! Yeah - it has been a long day.

So, in the mailbox today, I was greeted by a very large envelope from my aunt. When I opened it, it was stuffed full of photos of little ol' me growing up. (I had asked her for some pics about a month ago, because Tammy had tagged me for a 'Through the Years' meme). My gosh she sent me a TON of pics! All the pics of me growing up that she could find, I think. PLUS... and this is a HUGE BONUS - she sent me pics of my daddy as the adorable little boy that he was!

Now that I have quickly took a stroll down memory lane, I'm not so sure that I need to bore everyone to tears with pics of Baby Misty, Toddler Misty, Young Child Misty, Adolescent Misty, and Young Woman Misty... nah, I'm thinking we don't really need to go there.

I am including one pic though... just so you can see proof... it started at a young age... and NO, I am not referring to my lack of fashion-sense!

Hey, We're Making Hay

(c) Misty DawnS

This is what my Hubs is busy working on right now. NO, he's not sitting on top of a hay bale like that bird! Gosh, you people are silly! He's busy mowing hay... so he can rake the hay... so he can bale the hay... so we can sit on top of the hay bale like the bird... errrr, scratch that last part, I got a little carried away. Now, just keep your fingers (and everything else) crossed for us that it doesn't rain and ruin the hay. Pppppplease, Mother Nature, hear my pleas.

Yup, here I sit, with my laptop on my lap, happily talking to you (yes YOU! You know who you are!), and Hubs is out there driving around the field in a tractor busily working hard to make hay. What a guy!

This week's theme is "Anything Starting with the Letter 'O'". (*Gasp* I can't believe what you just whispered! This is a family blog!)

So, I leave you with this...

Now, I am headed off to work... where I'm sure I will be walking around singing and humming this song all day, because now it is stuck in my head and I.Can't.Get.It.Out!

Hey... guess what my boss's name is...
You guessed it! Oscar!

I tell ya, I'm in for a long day now... humming and singing and giggling...

Have a great day everyone!

The Package!

OK, OK - I'll tell you what was in the package... Yeah, like you don't already know....
It fits my hand perfectly and beautifully...
It flashes light when I tell it to...
It, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful material things I have ever seen...
HEY - I said MATERIAL!!! Don't you go trying to get my dogs upset with me! Speaking of... there was a Border Collie puppy who came into my work today, and I got to thinkin' (as I followed this puppy around and played with it, while ignoring every human and bit of work in the place) that I probably need another puppy... and.... Oh YEAH.. back to the topic of this post -
It provides me with creations I consider beautiful!
And, I would still be whining talking about it, if I would not have discovered "12 months of no interest and no payments financing"! WoooooHoooooo Y'all don't have to listen to me whine anymore. Instead, you get to view photo, after photo, after photo... after... hehehehe, you get the idea!(c) Misty DawnS

Fun With Costumes

You saw my previous post which included an adorable photo of my beautiful Molly happily sporting a Harley vest. Well, if you couldn't tell by the big smile on her face, she was having fun dressing up and looking cute for Mommy. Of course, after enough of the pictures, she was informing me that it was time to go play ball.

I posed pretty for you, Mommy, so now you should take me to play ball... NOW.

She has always been a mommy's girl and would do anything to please me, such as posing as a smiling, happy, Molly-mate.
I have a lot of fun coming up with ideas of different pet costumes for Molly. I promise you, though, I would not subject her to this if she seemed the least bit unhappy about it. Honestly, she seems to have as much fun with it as I do, especially when she knows we are going to play when we are done.

So, I know it seems like a long ways away, but I've been thinking that it would be fun for Molly and me to find Halloween costumes that would compliment each other. I considered a sheep and a shepherd, or a sports player (Molly) and a referee or coach (me). What do you think would be cute? NO - I will not post photos on my blog of us! Well, not without a whole lot of convincing. ;-)

Whatever we choose to dress up as, we will be able to find the costumes at buycostumes.com. In fact, they not only have costumes for pets, they also have costumes for infants, children, and adults.

The Weekend, Weather, & Wonderings

(c) Misty DawnS

Well, I got the package...
Then, on Friday, we had an all-day cookout/get together to go to, so I didn't get to 'experiment' with the contents of the package. The cookout was fun though, although I hurt my wrist playing volleyball... it's OK though - I can type, and I can hold a camera, that's all that matters.
Then, Saturday, we had another cookout/get together to go to. So, my time with the contents of the package was limited, but I managed to get out with it, just enough to tease myself ;-)

Yesterday, it threatened rain all day, but, unbelievably, we avoided the rain! So, I did spend quite a bit of time outside, and Hubs was able to bale the hay he mowed on Saturday. WooHoo

Today, however, we are supposed to be up to 93 degrees - it is humid as heck - and there are thunderstorms in the forecast. I'll just have to see what it is like after I get home from work.

Until then - have you figured out what was in that package yet? ;-)

Camera-Critters #13

Molly, the most beautiful Harley babe ever, would like to wish everyone a very
Happy 4th of July!
She, Tag, and Maggie would like to give some advice on how to fully and properly
enjoy the weekend.
So, break out the flags, pay tribute to our country, and don't forget to smile ;-)
(c) Misty DawnS

Ball sports are always a great way to enjoy a holiday...
(c) Misty DawnS

(c) Misty DawnS

Spend lots of quality time with the kids...
(c) Misty DawnS

Use this quality time to reinforce the lessons and values you want the kids to learn and carry with them, such as how to share with others...
(c) Misty DawnS

After a long time of playing ball on a hot day, go for a swim. It's a really good idea to keep the ball with you at all times though... you never know where one of those ball-nappers may be lurking!
(c) Misty DawnS

Most importantly, put aside any daily differences or disagreements, and
enjoy the time with your family and loved ones
(c) Misty DawnS

If it rains, just pop some tunes into that stereo system in the audio racks and enjoy some indoor time.
That's that. We truly hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!
