Camera-Critters #73

down the road,
through the field,
or even just
through my yard,
all of a sudden, I'll hear this
indescribable noise.
It's almost deafening.
It's hard to believe that something
this size could create a noise
so huge.

It's a Cicada.
They are large compared to other bugs,
and their sound is like no other.

Can you believe September is here? Pretty soon before you know it, it will be Christmas!!!
Don't forget Heads or Tails on Tuesday, Looking at the Sky on Friday, and for your weekend enjoyment...

They are LOUD aren't they. I listen to them every morning, noon and into the night! Great shots. The ones we have are more green. I shuddered to think how many are in the woods, I've been "lucky" enough to find the ones I have photographed right on our sidewalk or patio!
My CC
Excellent photos of the Cicadas and a good post as usual.
We don't have these where we live but we hear them in a lot of films!! Great photos! :) And woo-hoo - we're gonna start writing our christmas lists - lots of chews, new bones, a fancy collar....he he he! Schnauzer snuggles - JD and Max.
such detail sandy
It is amazing how loud cicadas are.
Great photos!
Excellent shots here as well!
Shhh...let's don't talk about Christmas. :)
Carletta’s Captures.
Those look like cicadas!!! And they drive me crazy...there is an old wives' tale that when they make their 'racket'....it's going to rain before the week's over.
My C C is posted now...scroll down, just below the Photo Hunt Meme entry. It's Tahoe again this week. Hope you can visit.
Have a super weekend.
Ugly little beastie, but I do love their *song*! It wouldn't be summer without them.
Beautiful shades of green. Love the detail.
Again, amazing clarity! Excellent shots
I strive to take such beautiful macro shots! Very very nice!
Great shot of the cicada. We have them around here, but they aren't all that loud.
I know exactly the sound of these little critters, but I've never seen them in person and am impressed with your amazing photographs. It IS hard to believe something so small could make such noise ;--)
Hugs and blessings,
Where I live we don't have cicadas. Thanks for posting about them!
I saw one just the other day. Haven't heard them lately though. Great shots!
Great shots! My son talks to them when they get too loud. He says, "Peaceful, peaceful, peaceful!" He thinks it works to make them quiet, but obviously, it just takes about the same amount of time for him to say that as it does for them to finish their song. :) Cute, though.
Wonderful shots..:-)
Many moons ago I was at a conference in Baltimore and they had so many cicada's that there were literately hundreds of them laying in piles on the side of the streets. Hotels were paying people to stand by the doors with brooms to bat them away from the doors. Those city folks were freaking out! HA!
You are the second blog today to mention Christmas! Are you not in denial like I am?
