Camera-Critters #60

Hello Friends, and welcome to another edition of the wonderful and fun Camera-Critters. Those of you who know me well (and have decided to love me, or at least put up with me, despite my issues) know I'm a bit bug-obsessed... especially when it comes to butterflies and dragonflies. For those of you who don't know me well yet (trust me, you'll want to get to know me well - I'm irresistible like that... like a wart you can't get rid of)... anyhow... what I'm trying to say is - I'm a self-proclaimed bug-obsessed kinda gal - like it or not.

and THIS, my wonderful friends, if my first dragonfly photo of the year!!! WooooHoooo! OK, so it's not that great of a photo (trust me, my dragonfly shots will get much better as the year progresses), and most of you probably don't even like dragonflies, but this is a very important moment for me. So, please join me in a moment of silence and thanks for the wonderful pleasure of dragonflies. ********************* Thank you. You may now go back to researching nutritional health supplements or whatever it was you were doing, and you may now let your weekend begin.

Looking at the Sky on Friday

WooHooo! It's Friday! Not only is it the end of the work week for most people, it's also time for the fun and wonderful meme where we spend our time Looking at the Sky on Friday! (Click on the badge to join in the fun!)

(c) Misty DawnS
This sight caught my eye last weekend as I was walking along the road (coming back from the cemetery after photographing some beautiful flowers). I liked how the white flowers of the tree stood out against the beautiful blue sky. I think maybe Mother Nature knew it was picture day and instructed each leaf to put on its white tuxedo shirt to ensure the tree would catch my eye. You'll have to forgive me, as I forget what kind of tree this is... I should know because there are lots of them out here... but I forget.
Happy Friday everyone... I wish you a wonderful weekend :-)

Mind-full

(c) Misty DawnS
My mind is full. You ever get like that? You ever get to the point where your mind is so full of so many different things that it requires too much energy to sort out any specifics? No, I'm not complaining or being negative... I just have a full mind. I don't know how else to explain it.

I've been focussing a lot on my photography lately and rediscovered my Flickr addiction (it's an addiction that comes and goes for me). So, my time on Flickr takes away from my time on Blogger. I guess I haven't learned to balance my addictions yet ;-)

Oh, and, I'm going to be working on a photography portfolio site, and that's REALLY exciting. One of my best buds and I are going to join forces and purchase a website where we can sell our images. We don't know if anyone will want to buy our images, but we figure if we don't try, we'll never know. So, I'm really excited about this.

Well, I best get back to my full mind now... thoughts of websites, bills, dogs, financial aid, photography, dogs, bills, farming, vacation, dogs, warm weather, bills, dogs...

Talk to ya soon...

Oh my gosh, I'm late! Wait! Hold the elevator doors open... I'm coming...
Whew! I made it! Friday is only halfway over, so I guess I can still post ;-)
I'm thrilled to have these pictures to share with you, because I have been wanting some decent rainbow photos for forever, but never seemed to have the camera when I saw a rainbow... or, if I did take a photo, the rainbow's colors were always dull or faded. I kind of like the two photos below though. When I was taking photos of this beautiful work of art by Mother Nature, little did I know that in about a week's time I would be facing another act of nature which would cause me to re-evaluate my priorities in life and even consider looking into some no medical exam life insurance. Yeah, natural disasters have some funny after-effects that come along with them.

Heads or Tails *Brave*

Heads Or Tails

If you click on the graphic above, it will take you to the awesome HoT blog where you can sign up and start participating in this fun and popular meme!

Well, for this week's Heads or Tails, we are supposed write about a time when we felt brave or showed bravery.

Some people may be expecting me to write about the tornado again. However, that, in my opinion, had nothing to do with bravery. I didn't do anything brave in that situation. Huddling on a floor and praying has nothing to do with bravery.

So... I had to think long and hard on this one. "My gosh," I thought to myself, "you mean I've NEVER been brave?!?!" I really started feeling like a big, wimpy failure. For real.

So, I told Hubs my dilemma, and he didn't even hesitate in saying, "When you moved 800 miles away from your family and friends, came out here where you didn't know anyone and didn't have a job, and never hesitated to do what needed to be done."

"You think that was brave?" I asked. "I just did what I did for my husband and our marriage." I continued.

Hubs insisted it was brave, while I stared at him in shock. To be honest, I never thought of moving out here as brave, and I would have never, ever thought that he considered it as that. Hey, I'm just being honest here.

So, that's my post of bravery. When I didn't consider myself as such, apparently others did.

Macro Monday

Would somebody please tell me
why it has taken me so long to join this meme?
I mean Hello! Macro photography is
one of my most favorite types of photography ever!
Geesh - I feel like a bear who has been hibernating and missing out on the fun!

(c) Misty DawnS

And not only is macro photography one of my most favorite types of photography ever (did I already mention that?), the hostess is LISA!!! People, I just truly adore Lisa, her photography, and her blog. The first time I ever visited, I Could.Not.Stop. I just kept going to post after post after post. Seriously - it's an addiction.

So, Lisa, if you'll have me - I Wanna Playyyyyy (she says in her best whiny-kid voice).
The rest of you should play too! Just find a close-up photo and click on the badge at the top of the post. I'm so excited I'm gonna join over at Misty's Words too!

**P.S. Next time I'm missing out on a spectacular photo meme that y'all just know would be perfect for me... smack me upside the head with it, K? Deal? Thanks!**

Maternity Attire

Several of my co-workers have either just had babies or are presently, pleasingly, pregnant. In fact, the wife of one of my co-worker's is pregnant and she is due on MY birthday! WooHoo!

Since I have never had a baby, if I were to become pregnant, I wouldn't know the first thing about anything. For instance, someone would have to explain to me what a Bella Band is and would I need one? Yes, I'm very naive when it comes to this stuff.

So, I would probably rely on first-time mother advice from blogs and websites. I know I would ask my co-workers advice about clothes though, because they always seem to wear the most Stylish Maternity Clothes! They look so beautiful!

It's very exciting with the anticipation, the baby pools (guessing date of birth, etc.), and the baby showers. I'm going to need to go shopping and find some baby shower gifts very soon. What do you suggest? Something like one of those Serena and Lily Baby Slings? Baby clothes? Bottles and diapers? I'm so naive.

National Geographic & Energizer & Ben Spark too! WooHoo

2009 Energizer Ultimate Photo Contest

National Geographic and Energizer have teamed up to host an awesome photo contest. How could you possibly resist entering? It doesn't cost a thing, just a few minutes of your time, and, let's face it - contests are fun! To enter the contest, click on the graphic to go to their site. There are six different categories you can enter: Animals/Wildlife, Nature, People/Cultures, Travel, Weather, and Inspirational/Keep Going.

AND, just when you thought it couldn't get any better, Drew over at BenSpark.com is hosting a contest in honor of National Geographic and Energizer's contest! You can enter two contests with one entry! You know what that means? DOUBLE the chances to win! Go for it! Click over to both sites and have fun!

GOOD LUCK!!!

Camera-Critters #58

Think you can out-fox a fox?
Doubt it!
(c) Misty DawnS

Please excuse me, but with everything that has happened lately, my sense of humor is a bit lacking... but, I'm hanging in there and trying to bring it back again

I have been waiting to get a photo of one of these critters! While it's not really a great quality photo, I'm still absolutely thrilled to have snapped this shot.

Yesterday, Hubs and I went over to my in-laws' so I could pick up their van, which they are generously letting me borrow until my vehicle is fixed and once again has windows in it. On the way back, Hubs was following me, and this critter crossed the road in front of me. I quickly realized that the only other vehicle around belonged to Hubs, and, let's face it, he knows how I am. So, I didn't hesitate to stop and snap a couple shots. WooHoo - I've really been wanting a photo of a fox! Now that I've got one, I'm setting my goals on a better photo of a fox (hehe) or perhaps a shot of the mom and babies I saw a few weeks ago.

Now, after I give you a link for fat burner supplements, I highly suggest you come and join in on the fun of Camera-Critters!

(c) Misty DawnS

As if being in an F-4 tornado wasn't enough of Mother Nature's fury for us to endure, now we have flooding. EVERYTHING is flooded. Since 1 a.m. we've lost power a few times, and we have had over 3 1/2 inches of rain, with 1 1/2 inches of that rain coming in just an hour's time. The creeks are flooded; the ponds are flooded; and even some of the highways are flooded, and this is supposed to last ALL day! The sky is in a constant state of rumble (I guess the angels must be bowling a lot of strikes). Oh yeah, and here's the kicker... we're under hazardous weather warnings, because severe thunderstorms, with potential to produce large hail and more tornadoes, are expected to develop this afternoon. For crying out loud... many people still do not have power - if they are lucky to even have shelter, as so many people have lost their homes!

If you can't find me later... check the basement.

They Say It Was an F-4; I Say It Was...

Something I'll never... ever forget

(c) Misty DawnS

I was on my way home from work, and there were tornado 'watches'. I then heard about a tornado touching down in a town near my home. I called home, and Hubs said that he and our house were fine. He also said that I shouldn't have trouble driving, but since I tend to worry, I might want to turn around and go back to the little country store I had just passed.

(c) Misty DawnS - YES, that's my vehicle!!!

So, I turned around (right near the water tower) and went back to the store. I sat there for a little bit and it got really dark, so I decided to go into the store. Once inside, I kept calling Hubs, and he would relay the internet radar images to me. Then the store manager's son (also a volunteer firefighter) pulled in and said "It's on the ground right THERE" and pointed.

(c) Misty DawnS

We ran back inside and went to a back office with no windows. We all huddled on the floor. We heard the hail and the rain, and then we heard the "train" (I always wondered if it really sounds like that - well, trust me, it does). The walls shook and there was a deafening, booming explosion sound, and I thought the building was going to explode. A couple had come in right before it hit, and the guy had his arms around the girl and me, kind of sheltering us (I never even got a chance to tell him thank you). We all just kept repeating to each other "It's OK. We're going to be OK. It's alright. We're going to be fine." And then, it was gone, and it was just raining.

(c) Misty DawnS

I stood up on wobbly legs and called Hubs. I said "It hit us, but I'm OK." He must have thought I was just exaggerating. I walked to the door of the store and said "The Durango's windows are gone." and Hubs asked "WHAT???" I replied, "You thought I was exaggerating when I said it hit us, didn't you." He said "Yeah."

I stood outside watching emergency vehicles fly by, helicopters fly in and out, and law enforcement stopping traffic due to the telephone and power poles/wires laying in the road.

(c) Misty DawnS

Hubs was trying to come pick me up and take me home, but he had a heck of a time getting to me, because the road was closed (you can see why).

A Chevrolet car dealership in Kirksville was completely demolished, along with several houses. The damage is unbelievable and indescribable.

(c) Misty DawnS

On another note, the tornado that touched down in in the town near home killed the wife of a man I know. My heart breaks for him.

I was told that once the tornado which hit us touched down by us, it was a half mile wide.
I'm just thankful (and still shaking).

(c) Misty DawnS

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

This Is...

My vehicle after I abandoned it,
and a half-mile wide tornado went through...
(c) Misty DawnS

What used to be a house
(NOT my house, but my heart and prayers go out to the people who lived there)
This house was down the road from the store.
I was huddled on the floor of an office in the store
with a group of wonderful people,
as we waited (and prayed) for the tornado to go through...
(c) Misty DawnS

I'm thankful to be alive, and
I'll have to fill you in on the rest of the story tomorrow.
I'm still shaking and still trying to breathe calmly...

Soul Searching... I guess

(c) Misty DawnS

Please forgive me if I'm not around much for awhile. I mean, I'll be around... I think... I'm just not sure how much. My aunt with Pancreatic Cancer has taken a turn for the worse. Please pray for her to be without pain. This, coupled with the 17 pound tumor which was removed from one of my best friends (she's also my cousin's wife), has caused me to examine my life priorities. It has caused me to realize that putting things off 'until next weekend' or thinking 'there will be plenty more chances' isn't a good thing. It has caused me to try to set aside more time for "me". Time for me to do the things I want to do... and find time to appreciate all that is around me. It has made me realize that I need to live for myself and learn how to let go of the guilt that comes with that.

So, I'm here... I'm just working through some things.

Heads or Tails *Ball*

Heads Or Tails

If you click on the graphic above, it will take you to the awesome HoT blog where you can sign up and start participating in this fun and popular meme!

This week's theme is HEADS -"Ball". Ummm yeah - I can TOTALLY work with this theme. You see... 'round my house, we're a bit ball-obsessed!

This is Tag catching the ball.
Tag really doesn't care about playing ball,
he just wants to get attention from us.
(c) Misty DawnS

Molly is the one who is OBSESSED with the ball.
In fact, we don't say the word around her.
Heck, we can't even SPELL the word around her...
You say, "B. A. L..." and Molly-Collie sprints for the door to
go out and play. Playing ball makes Molly's world go 'round.
Picking on her big sister and stealing her ball makes
Maggie May's world go 'round.
Oh my gosh - look how little she was - how stinkin cute!
I think I need a new puppy... *sigh*
(c) Misty DawnS

As you can see, she continues to torment Molly
any chance she gets. Darn little sisters!
(c) Misty Dawns

This is the "I'm smiling pretty for the camera, Mom,
but I'm really thinking about biting the little brat's head off!"
(c) Misty DawnS

Molly would like to ship her little sister to the highest bidder
so she can play ball in peace again.
Molly's ball of choice is the Hol-EE Roller, but
after we moved here, Molly lost most of them in the pond,
and I couldn't find them in any of the stores.
I don't know who was in more of a panic - me or Molly.
But, my mother-in-law and Bear came to the rescue.
My mother-in-law found some at a store in Ohio, and
Bear shipped her one clear for Oregon!
She's so spoiled, but she thinks she truly deserves it ;-)

Today's Flowers *Happy Mothers Day*

I'm not sure what kind of flowers these are, but since they have blue and purple colors to them, I was immediately drawn to them.

It's so wonderful seeing the flowers blooming again! I love this time of year!

Camera-Critters #57

This is a story of the "House that They Built"...

You see... once upon a time (a year ago)
there was this crazy little chic with a big camera
who liked to go on walks.
On these walks, with eyes and ears open,
she noticed many things.
Such as this 'house'...
And she wondered...

(c) Misty DawnS

Could this 'house' possibly be built by a couple of these?
But, alas, the Evil Tick-Monsters were just too nasty
to allow the crazy little chic to enjoy many more such walks
in her peaceful 'Heaven' of the woods.
But THEN -
the crazy little chic with the big camera read an e-mail
(cuz she spends the majority of her life with a computer).
And, she thought... "What the heck, I'll give these
Bounce dryer sheet things a try like they suggest."

(c) Misty DawnS

So... once upon a time, a year later (this year)...
She tucked Bounce dryer sheets in each of her socks
and in every pocket she had, and she headed out
to her precious woods (and the Evil Tick-Monsters stayed at bay!!!)
She stood beneath the 'house' and she heard
chirp, chirp, chiiiiiiiiiiirp -
Although difficult to hear with Mom and Dad flying overhead
screaming like mad at the crazy little chic.

But THEN...
Oh THEN...
She saw what she had been waiting for...
Do you see it them too? (look closely)
(c) Misty DawnS

And, the crazy little chic with the big camera was happy,
and she smiled and thought to herself...
"Yes, nature is precious, and life is good."
Even though Mom and Dad were still
circling above, screaming their heads off,
and desiring to peck the crazy little chic's
eyeballs out. But, that's OK. That's what she came there for.

P.S. I ♥ Bounce dryer sheets!!!

The End.
