True Colours Thursday *Pine Green*

True Colours Thursday is a fun meme hosted at the blog appropriately titled "My True Colours". Click on the badge to join in on the fun!

This week's color prompt is:
Pine Green...

This is my favorite Christmas decoration.
My Fishing Santa
(c) Misty DawnS

This Santa is holding some "pine green".
I received this Santa tree topper as a gift from a client
(no I wasn't selling business insurance)
at my first legal office manager job in 1995.

This photo is actually from last year.
We didn't put our tree up this year... long story.
Notice all the Ohio sports team ornaments.

The winter season isn't the only time for the color "pine green".
This photo was taken in July of this year, when I was visiting my Dad.

Looking Back & Looking Forward

(c) Misty DawnS

I took this photo on December 30, 2008. The weather certainly was different a year ago than it is today! There aren't any blue skies to be seen on this December 30. It's overcast and snowing.

Tomorrow is New Years Eve! My how the time flies. I really can't get over how fast the years are going! Hubs says it's because I'm getting old. hehe

What will you be doing for New Years Eve? Are you going out or staying in? I really have no clue yet what we are doing, but as long as I bring the new year in with Hubs, I'll be happy.

O.K., now the big question. Do you make New Years resolutions? If you do, what's your resolution(s) for this year? I want to hear the unique ones. I know many people resolve to lose weight, quit smoking, etc. Do you have a unique resolution? Perhaps it is taking more time for yourself, creating a website, making a large purchase which will require an extended service plan, going back to school, getting a new pet... c'mon, I wanna know. (Yes, I'm nosy!)

Oh, and if you are interested, one of my resolutions was to create my website where I can sell my photography. Well, I started that one early and began a free trial. My trial expires in 13 days. After I see if there's any interest, then I'll decide if I'm going to purchase the site for a year. No sense purchasing it if it isn't going to at least pay for itself.

Do you wanna see the site? I'd LOVE to have your suggestions, ideas, and opinions. Just keep in mind that it's still in the "in progress" stage. Here's my new photography portfolio site: Misty DawnS. Please don't be afraid to tell me if you hate it... these are the things I really want - HONEST opinions.

Heads or Tails *Rate*

Heads Or Tails

If you click on the graphic above, it will take you to the awesome HoT blog where you can sign up and participate in this fun and popular meme!

This week's theme is:
HEADS - "Rate"

Make any kind of post using any form of the word "Rate."

(c) Misty DawnS

I've got a couple more days of my holiday break left, and, at this rate, I don't think I'm going to get anything accomplished on my to-do list! I have to admit, I did give myself a pretty steep to-do list, and working at the high rate of speed to get everything done would pretty much ruin the whole idea of holiday "BREAK", I guess.

If you're interested, I've got a couple things in the works, which I'll be going on and on about at an excessive rate in the future (it's called promotion, folks).

First - I've started a Zenfolio account to sell my photos. Now, I've got to set the mark-up rates for prices, organize things the way I want them, and, of course, upload photos. I don't know if my photos are a high enough rate of quality to be sold, but we're gonna find out. Wish me luck, so I don't do a complete flop and feel like a complete failure. Just kidding... not really.

Also - I'm starting another blog. Stop gasping and just listen for a minute. This blog will be all about reviews (such as alli reviews) and giveaways. It won't be a blog where I will put demands on myself to post everyday. This blog will be 'enjoyable'. I will review and rate products, I will tell you about giveaways to enter in the blogosphere, and I will have giveaways of my own. At any rate, would you be interested in that? Would you visit? Are you even reading this post?

There's so much more I could ramble on about. However, I've got a to-do list to tackle. Otherwise, I'm going to go back to "work" and feel like I didn't get anything accomplished on my time off, which is not good for my morale.

Maybe in my next post, I'll tell you about falling in the ditch/creek the other day... brrrrr.
Talk to ya soon...

Camera-Critters #90

Yes, I admit this is a repeat photo card from last year. However, even if I AM prejudiced, I just melt whenever I see this photo. That's my puppy! Yes, yes, she'll be three in February, but she'll ALWAYS be our puppy!

(c) Misty DawnS

Forgive me if I don't make very long posts. We've got a winter storm going on, and the wind is really whipping around like mad. When you have a half-finished house, this translates into freezing cold air blowing in around all of your unfinished windows and doors (which is all of them in our home).... this translates into BBBBBBRRRRRRRR! So, I think, I'll go back to hibernating under my blankie now...

Heads or Tails *Show & Tell*

Heads Or Tails

If you click on the graphic above, it will take you to the awesome HoT blog where you can sign up and participate in this fun and popular meme!

This week's theme is:
TAILS - "Show 'N Tell"

Remember playing Show 'N Tell back in school? This is pretty much the same. Post something you want to "show" and then "tell" about it.

I'm going to show and explain something to you which I hoped would never be my resort.

I have always sworn that it would never come to this for me...

I would fight it every step of the way.

However, unfortunately, it has now come to this...

I'm going to have to resort to putting word verification on my blogs. Yes, I said blogS (plural)... all three of them. I really don't like word verification. I believe it's very difficult for people to read sometimes, and therefore, difficult for them to comment.

However, I'm getting many, many... MANY spam comments on each of my three blogs, whether the post is about college student loans, my dogs, photography, or farming... it doesn't matter. It is taking me WAY too much time to have to go to each post and delete each spam comment. If I read one more spam comment asking me where you can buy a unicorn, I'm gonna scream! D*mn you spammers!!! You have caused me to resort to something I swore I would never do. You may think you've won, but the battle isn't over yet!

Camera-Critters #89

The other day, I had a package in my mailbox when I got home. When I opened the package, it was a dog page-a-day calendar. I was thrilled with the package contents, because I absolutely LOVE these calendars, and I actually have a little dream of being a freelancer for Workman Publishing. Shhhh don't tell them, they'll laugh at me. Anyway...

I couldn't figure out how and why I got this calendar. My lawyer-boss used to buy me a dog page-a-day calendar each year, but the return address was Workman Publishing on this package. I just couldn't figure it out.

Finally, Hubs came home. "There was nothing else in the package?" he asked.

So, I checked the package again, and that's when I found a single sheet of paper which I hadn't noticed before. It said, "As a winner in our on-line photo contest on pageaday.com you receive a free 2010 Pageaday Calendar..."

I just stood there. Hubs said, "Wow! That's cool." I said "Yeah, and I feel like a moron!" Now Hubs was confused... until I explained.

"Hubs, I won a contest and didn't even know I won it! Not only didn't I know I won, but I have absolutely no idea which photo was the winner! I'm a moron!"

Well, I, of course, couldn't just accept that I won a contest and NOT know which photo won the contest, so I sent John, the Photo Editor, an e-mail to ask him. He didn't reply, so I e-mailed him again (persistent little brat, aren't I?). This time he called me at work... he called me. A real live publishing company's photo editor called me. This is what my dreams are made of, people.

But, alas, I was at work and on another call, so John went to my voicemail... yeah, my life works like that. Didn't even get the chance to say, "Hey, by the way, you really need to hire me as a freelancer. Sure, I'll send you some samples of my work. No problem." No, instead he heard, "Hi, you've reached the desk of Misty Dawn. Unfortunately, I'm unable to take your call right now...." MAJOR Pffffft!!!

He did, however, leave me a message, and from what he said, I believe the below photo is the winning photo. I took it in 2007, right after we moved here.

(c) Misty DawnS

I'm thinking if this 2-year old photo won, I can't wait for them to see what I can do with my DSLR! So, I'll be entering the contest again this year, and this time, I'll write down which photos I enter! ;-) You should enter too - it's fun! They have a dog page-a-day and a cat page-a-day contest.

**Workman Publishing, nor Page-A-Day did NOT sponsor this post in any way, shape, or form.**

Looking at the Sky on Friday *Ice Storm Sunset*

Since it's dark by the time I get home from work (and it has been cold as heck), I haven't been able to get outside on any photo walks lately. So, I decided to dig into my archives. I thought the following photo would be appropriate. During our first winter here, there was an ice storm. This photo is of one of the sunsets after the ice storm.

True Colours Thursday *Cranberry*

Misty DawnS

O.K. So, I guess I never thought of a male Cardinal as the color "cranberry", but, hey, it's close enough... right? Besides, look how handsome he is standing there in the snow. So, I think it's quite appropriate to use a male Cardinal to represent the color "cranberry".

Cardinals hold a very special place in my heart, as they were my grandmother's (she raised me) favorite bird. My female cousins and I often try to get a small trinket for each other that relates to the special moments we shared with Grandma. These trinkets usually involve Cardinals, birds, or teacups. Unfortunately, I won't be completing that this year, as I won't be seeing them for the holidays. So, I dedicate this cardinal to my female cousins, who are much more like my sisters rather than 'cousins'. Love you Gals!!!

Looking at the Sky on Friday *Reflections from Above*

WooHooo! It's Friday! Not only is it the end of the work week for most people, it's also time for the fun and wonderful meme where we spend our time Looking at the Sky on Friday! (Click on the badge to join in the fun!)

(c) Misty DawnS

This photo was taken right after my cousin's wedding. People were being ushered into the room where the reception would be held, and Hubs brought this photo opportunity to my attention. The reflection of the people in the glass ceiling really made for a neat composition. I would have liked to have had the opportunity to experiment with more photos of this ceiling, but it was time to celebrate the joining in marriage of a truly wonderful couple.

Wordless Wednesday *Reservoir Memories*

(c) Dad of Misty DawnS

*credits* I did not take this photo. My dad took the photo, and I instantly fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. Not only is it beautiful... not only does it have wonderful composition... but it's also very sentimental for me. I think I want to print and frame this and hang it in my new bedroom when it's finished. The room has a sunset theme, and this photo would be perfect for the theme. Plus, I would go to sleep each night and wake up each morning with memories of the special times I've shared with my dad in that canoe and on that reservoir.
