Camera-Critters #103

O.K., who wants to take me under their wing and be my online Photoshop trainer/mentor? You think I'm joking? I'm serious here. I want so badly to learn what I'm doing with Photoshop.

Take this photo for example. I love the mood, the reflection, the ripples in the water. However, it's too dark, right? So....

(c) Misty DawnS

I attempt to work on it to make it better. No, I didn't use Photoshop, because, honestly, I don't have a clue HOW to use Photoshop on photos. I only know how to use Photoshop to create web graphics... know nothing about working on photos.

Anyway, here's my attempt at fixing the above photo. Not too bad. I lightened it so (if you're viewing the larger version), you can actually see the eye of the goose now... hmm, that sounds like a song Eyeeeeee of the Gooooooose. Oh sorry, back to the technical stuff. Anyway, I think I took something away from the photo, and I'm not sure what I did wrong or how to do it better.

My attempt to 'fix' (I use that term lightly).
The image is not too flat - too 2-dimensional.
I lost detail, and I feel I lost a lot of mood in the photo.

Looking at the Sky on Friday *Winter Sunset*

(c) Misty DawnS

I've truly missed playing Looking at the Sky on Friday. It's such a great meme, created by a great person. I just haven't had the opportunities to get photos for this meme lately. Well, here's to hoping that our weather has changed and that spring really is trying to push winter out of the way!

Thursday Challenge *Black & White*

To purchase this photo or browse more photos for sale, click on the photo

I decided to join a new meme this week. It's called "Thursday Challenge". Here's some more information about Thursday Challenge:
Thursday Challenge is a place for photographic fun and learning. A theme is announced on the site each week. You may either take a new photograph related in some way to the theme or select one that you have taken previously; Then submit your single permanent link to the Thursday Challenge site.

This sounded like a lot of fun to me, and when I clicked over to learn more about the meme, I discovered that this week's challenge is "BLACK and WHITE (Black and White Photos, Black and/or White things, Things with Little Color,...)". Well, that certainly cinched it for me! I just had to join, because, as you know, I've got three black and white critters in this house who "keep me sane".

So, this is my first contribution to Thursday Challenge. You've got a couple of beautiful black and white dogs, in the midst of white flowers. What more could you want? Well, O.K., you might also want to know about the best weight loss program, but first you get the pleasure of viewing my beautiful 'kids'. Life is good, eh?

Something Special is Coming

(c) Misty DawnS

This may not sound like a huge thing to you, but I just realized something that seems huge to me. I'm coming up close to making my 1,000th post on this blog! SERIOUSLY?!?! WOW! That's pretty amazing to me considering when I started this blog, I had no idea what a blog even was! I started this blog after moving here, 750 miles from 'home'. One of my best friends (who also happens to be my husband's cousin) told me that I "needed to start a blog". I kept ignoring her, because I honestly didn't see the point. Then, one day, to surprise her, I created a free blog account with Blogger, and the rest, as they say is history. I think I've blogged about everything from dogs to photography to phosphacore to farming to moving to remodeling to fishing to Fibromyalgia to working from home to ... well, you get the idea. And, soon, we'll be celebrating my 1,000th post! I'm thinking I should make it special... special for you, my wonderful blogging friends who have made this all worthwhile for me. So, keep your eyes open - there's something special on the horizon. Just sayin'.

Heads or Tails *Childhood Memory*

Heads Or Tails

If you click on the graphic above, it will take you to the awesome HoT blog where you can sign up and participate in this fun and popular meme!

This week's theme is:
TAILS - "CHILDHOOD MEMORY" (these are the times before we had to start worrying about things like planning for retirement and finding the best wrinkle cream)

Many of my favorite childhood memories involve the cottage my grandparents owned in Kentucky. I have fond memories of my grandfather's family who lived there, hunting for fossils by the river, picking Daffodils for my grandma, and, of course, fishing. I'm sure you're not surprised some of my favorite childhood memories involve fishing.

One of the things I remember most though, is lying in the sunroom where my aunt and I slept in the cottage and listening to the Peepers... the frogs at the pond singing their song. I will always associate that sound with the cottage. Those frogs sang me to sleep many summer nights. Now, whenever I hear the Peepers singing, I have flashes of memories of the cottage, and a smile instantly forms on my face.

Got Vowels?

Cld y rd my psts wtht vwls?

Oh, I'm sorry. I was just experimenting. The question was, "Could you read my posts without vowels?" If I wrote wrnkl fc crm, would you know that it meant wrinkle face cream? O.K., probably not. Well, it was worth a try anyway.

Yes, there IS a method behind my madness. You see, I'm having serious trouble with my laptop lately, which I've mentioned previously. More specifically, I'm having a lot of trouble with my keyboard. The keys, mostly the vowels, pop off the keyboard. Or, they get turned around and stuck under other keys, which prevents the other keys from working too. It's very annoying. I've had people suggest superglue to me, but I'm afraid of getting a key glued in the wrong position and then not being able to use it at all.

Yes, I've been looking at getting a new laptop, but I have to wait to see how bad our taxes are going to be this year. We usually have to pay taxes because of my self-employment. So, I've got to wait and see how bad this year will be before I can even entertain the idea of a new laptop.

In the meantime. My psts my nt hv vwls.

Camera-Critters #102

(c) Misty DawnS

I took this photo while on an evening walk a few weeks ago. I hadn't been on a walk for such a long time, and it was really starting to depress me. So, I decided to take a quick walk down the road in an attempt to capture the sunset. I was too late to capture the sunset, however. I did manage to capture this deer who was standing there watching me have a conversation with one of my and Hub's friends who was driving down the road. He was actually headed to my house to help Hubs. No, he wasn't going to tell him about diets for quick weight loss; He was coming to help with a calf we had in our basement... a rather loud calf at all hours in the night and morning, I might add. Before the friend pulled away to go find Hubs, he laughed when he saw the deer was just standing there watching us.

I realize it's not a great photo, but I like the whole farm scene it portrays with the field, the deer, and the silos in the background.

Heads or Tails *Grow*

Heads Or Tails

If you click on the graphic above, it will take you to the awesome HoT blog where you can sign up and participate in this fun and popular meme!

This week's theme is:

I'm sure you can all relate about making friends on the internet... how just a simple e-mail or comment can grow into something more, and next thing you know, you've got yourself a very special and cherished friendship.

Well, I've had that happen to me several times. I've met someone through my blogs, flickr, a forum, or some other means on the internet, and it has grown into a friendship which is more than I ever could have imagined.

This same thing happened with the hostess of this meme, Barb. It has been three years, and our friendship has continued to grow over those three years. We've laughed together, cried together, worried together, and just sat and talked about anything that came to mind, such as dogs, abilities, and more.

Well, now I'm asking you to say prayers, send good vibes, send good thoughts and wishes... whatever you feel comfortable doing. Barb has been in the hospital for a few days. She is out of the hospital now, but that doesn't mean that everything is all better, and that scares me. Yes, I'm a worrier, and I worry excessively about my friends and family.

Anyway, please keep her in your thoughts and in your heart. I've talked to her many times when she's been concerned about and praying for another fellow blogger. Now, it's her turn.

We love you Barb! Get well soon!

Rosina (Sara Donati), Thank You

I have three packages I need to get sent out in the mail sometime this week, if I can find the time to get away from work and get to the post office. That last part may be the most difficult part, as classes for all of my online students started today, and there are many issues, details, and problems which need to be addressed.

One of the packages I need to get sent out is a care package to my dad. We send each other care packages every now and then, and stuff them full of things that we know will mean something to the other. Well, knowing that I had a care package to get ready for Dad meant that it wouldn't make much sense to send the package without THE book.

You see, my dad and I both love a series called The Wilderness Series by Sara Donati. Yes, I know I've mentioned this series here before, but it's worth mentioning again, because it's THAT good! Yesterday, after finishing my own online college homework, I decided to spend the rest of the day reading the book so I could send it to Dad. He tries to nonchalantly ask me about the book, but I can see right through it, and I know that he's as eager to read it as I was.

I have now finished the book, and I cried at the end. I cried because this is the last book of the series, and I felt like I was losing part of my family. Sara Donati writes about her characters so well that you feel you know them. You come to love them, hate them, worry about them, and cheer for them.

This series is my favorite series of all time, and I'm truly going to miss it. I guess that now this series has ended, I will start the second book of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander Series, but I'm sure going to miss reading about the Bonner family.

Rosina (that's the author's real name), THANK YOU! Thank you for creating characters so real that I actually feel genuine emotions for them. Thank you for creating a forum which brought me together with so many wonderful people, who quickly became wonderful friends at a time I truly needed the support. Thank you for sharing your talent so that we could all benefit from the pleasure, excitement, and joy of truly wonderful stories which take us to another place. I hope you realize how wonderful what you created and shared with us is. Your talent is truly beyond words.

Camera-Critters #101

(c) Misty DawnS

The other day, while watching my dogs, it occurred to me how much the older two (Tag and Molly) trained Maggie May for me when we got her as a puppy. Sure, they didn't train her about how to get a free online life insurance quote, but they did train her on many other things. Thinking back, I realized that we didn't really spend much energy or time potty training Maggie May, because the other two actually trained her for us.

You see, still to this day, when one of the other dogs does something good, we react with a "Oh, good girl!" or "Oh, good boy!" Well, that immediately gets Maggie's attention. She wants to know what they did to receive our attention and get told they are good. So, she'll quickly turn to see what they did, and she'll mimic it. So, yes, the older two dogs played a big part in training the puppy, and they still do. This became quite clear to me the other day.

It was raining when I got home and let the dogs out to potty. The dogs know the routine... they go potty, and then they come inside and get fed, which is VERY important to Molly. She never misses dinner-time. Well, Maggie May was so caught up in the rain and wind that day that she would NOT take a break from running around and go potty. I kept telling her "Potty Maggie. Go potty." But, she was too interested in what was going on around her. Finally, Molly-Collie stepped off the porch, where she and Tag had been patiently waiting to go inside to eat. I watched Molly sniff the ground, and then squat like she was going potty. I knew she already went, and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why she needed to go again. Then, I noticed that she just kept staring into my eyes while she was squatting, like she was trying to get through to me. So, as normal, I said "Good girl, Molly." Well, Miss Maggie May whipped around and immediately ran over to see what Molly had just done that was so good. She saw what Molly was doing and she instantly squatted and went potty, and then she followed Molly up to the porch to go inside.

Meanwhile, I stood there in disbelief at the intelligent and thought-out act I just witnessed from my Molly. I mean, I shouldn't be in disbelief, because I know how intelligent they are, but that required her to stand there, realize the problem, and come up with the solution.

I'm telling ya - those dogs constantly make me think that dogs really are the ones who have it all figured out. We could learn a lot from them!

The Greatest Co-Workers in the World

Those of you who work full time outside of the home will understand completely when I say you actually end up spending more time awake with your co-workers than you do with your spouse or children. It's true when you sit down and think about it. Sure, I'm home in the evenings and all night long, but for some crazy reason, my body requires at least seven hours of sleep during that 'home time'.

Lucky for me, I've got some of the best co-workers in the world! I'm serious. There are four women I work with who are largely responsible for my being able to make it through the days when stress is plenty. We laugh together, we cry together, we worry together, we gossip and talk about graduation invitations together, and we simply just be friends... not just co-workers, but FRIENDS. These women have quickly become more than 'people I work with', they have become true friends, and I wouldn't trade those friendships for anything!

Heads or Tails Edge *Any Past Theme*

Heads Or Tails

If you click on the graphic above, it will take you to the awesome HoT blog where you can sign up and start participating in this fun and popular meme!

This week's theme is EDGE -"Any Past Theme". I decided to do a re-post. I don't do re-posts very often, but this was one of my favorite and most creative Heads or Tails I've ever done. So, I decided I've got the right to post it again. This little story was created for the very first time the coin of Heads or Tails landed on its "edge", and I decided to go all out and use EVERY past theme which had been introduced up until that point. I hope you enjoy it.

He felt like such a 'FOOL'. Why did he have to go and 'EXPRESS' his unhappiness?

She became irate and told him she'd give him a little 'TIP'. Then, she called him a 'DIP' and followed it with, "The door is in that 'DIRECTION', and don't let it hit you on your way out!"

He tried to make her realize what she was throwing away.

She responded, "I don't want to 'SHARE A SPECIAL MEMORY!' "Why don't you just go crying to your 'MOTHER'? She's the saint in your eyes anyway. I can find any 'TOM, DICK, OR HARRY' to treat me better than you! You say I run my mouth and don't give you any 'PEACE'? Well, go find yourself some floozie and see if she'll give you a 'PIECE' of her action! See if she'll sit and listen to you 'TELL ABOUT YOUR JOB'. See if she'll treat your like 'ROYAL'ty! You have never so much as picked me a 'FLOWER'; You're always late and making me 'WAIT'; and let's talk about YOUR 'WEIGHT' for a change! So, go waste your 'LINE's on someone else!"

He stared in disbelief, and she continued to rant.

"You're old news to me - just a 'SUMMERTIME MEMORY' in a field on a blanket. The 'BIG O', HA! What a 'JOKE'!" So, don't just 'SIT OR STAND' there! Get out of my face, or you're going to need a 'DOCTOR'! I don't care what 'MANNER' in which you leave!"

He tried to talk some reason into her.

"Oh, you sure have a large 'SUPPLY' of excuses! I feel like hitting you over the 'HEAD' and then kicking you in the 'TAIL'! NO, I do NOT want to 'TALK' about it! I can't give you 'THREE GOOD REASONS' I should listen to you! You can just 'BOX' up your things, because this was a 'RECIPE' for disaster since the beginning. There are going to be some 'CHANGES WHERE YOU LIVE'! I'm so mad I could just 'SHAKE' you! If you want it in 'BLACK AND WHITE', I'll go see a lawyer if I need to."

He didn't know what to say, or what to do. He just tried to get her to understand his 'GRIEF'. He needed her to forgive him. It was coming down to the 'WIRE'.

She, on the other hand, had plenty more to say.

"You couldn't have 'TOLD ME A MORE SCARY STORY'. I let down my 'GUARD' and believed that smile you would always 'WEAR'. Meanwhile, you were out some'WHERE' making 'MEMORIES WITH AUTUMN'!"

She pulled the ring off the finger 'ON HER LEFT HAND' and threw it at him.

"This ring and this relationship have lost the 'SHINE'. Don't try to 'FILL' me with any more excuses. We're beyond anything Dr. 'PHIL' can fix now!"

She opened the door and motioned for him to leave.

"Take the 'RING' and take yourself out into the 'COLD, NASTY WEATHER'. I won't be crying as I 'WATCH' you go. You see, I've 'LEARNED THREE THINGS'. One, that I can't drown my problems with a 'BOTTLE'. Two, that I am strong enough to stand on my own two 'FEET'. Three, getting over you isn't going to be too difficult of a 'FEAT'."

She shoved him out the door, and as he walked away, he squinted through the snow and glanced back at the tv which sat in front of the windows and brightly showed the light of televisions she had turned up to full volume, and he thought to himself...
"Man is she 'LOUD'! The arguing and the screaming are now a 'PAST THEME' of my life."

The End.

Camera-Critters #100

(c) Misty DawnS

I took the above photo in March of last year. Well, apparently these birds like to be on as much of a routine as I do, because when I pulled in the drive yesterday, my entire yard was filled with these critters. They, of course, flew when I pulled in, but they didn't fly far. Some sat in the trees and some sat in the field on the other side of the barbed wire. They were talking to me, and I'm pretty sure they were teasing me about how soon they would be ridding my feeders of all the seed.

On another note, I'm seriously researching laptops. This one causes me to take twice the amount of time to accomplish my tasks, because the keys pop off and don't work correctly. I'm thinking about another Toshiba Satellite, but part of me worries that the same thing that happened to this one will happen to the new one. Then again, I've had this one for over two years and use it several hours a day... so, I'm not sure if two years would be considered a short life or not.

Heads or Tails *Cup*

Heads Or Tails

If you click on the graphic above, it will take you to the awesome HoT blog where you can sign up and participate in this fun and popular meme!

This week's theme is:

This is a coffee cup I created at my Zazzle site.
There is a photo of Matouk, my dad's wolfdog, on each side of the coffee cup.
I created many more coffee cups too, but this one was created by special request
from my uncle, who wanted a coffee cup with Matouk on it for him and for my dad.
To see more cups, mugs, and steins, Click HERE

Speaking of cups... I collect tea cups, tea pots, and coffee cups. Hey, I could collect mechanical breakdown insurance, but I find that the cups are prettier ;-) Besides, my grandmother used to collect tea cups and tea pots, and she would treat us granddaughters to very special tea parties. It was so special to choose my tea cup and sit down and have a tea party with Grandma. I treasure those memories, and each time I look at my collection, I'm reminded of Grandma.
