Ruby Tuesday *Stripe-Winged Baskettail*

You may look at the photo below, which is of a Stripe-Winged Baskettail Dragonfly, and think there's no red in this photo. Ohhhh, but I disagree. There are all colors of the rainbow and many more colors in this dragon's wings. Just click on the photo to view it larger, and you'll see what I'm talking about. Go ahead... I'll wait...

(c) Misty DawnS

Oh, you're back. Well, you agree with me now? There may not be 'red' technically, but there are variations of the color red, such as pink, which counts for this meme. ;-)

I would like to publicly thank this very considerate and beautiful Stripe-Winged Baskettail Dragonfly for being such a great model.

Forgive me if I interrupted your research on online affiliate marketing, but I thought you'd like to sit and stare at these 'rainbow' or 'stained-glass' wings, like I have been. ;-)

Macro Monday *Bronze Copper Side Profile*

So, when creating this post, I contacted one of my best buds to ask him what the proper name of this butterfly is. We talk every day. We often talk about the weather, we may have talked about extenze, but we talk about bugs and critters and photography a LOT! He always identifies my bugs for me, if I don't know what their proper names are. He asked if I had a shot of it with its wings open, and I said that, unfortunately, I didn't, but I did have another butterfly for him to identify when he was done with this one.

Well, he identified this butterfly as a Bronze Copper Butterfly. So, I went ahead and sent him the other photo I had to be identified. After I sent it to him, I googled Bronze Copper Butterfly and had to laugh out loud because I realized the 'other butterfly' I was asking him to identify was actually a Bronze Copper Butterfly with its wings open. LOL

SOOC Sunday *Smile!*

For my Straight Out Of the Camera Sunday photo, I'm posting a flower, which is a favorite of many people. The Daisy. Daisies just say 'springtime' in my opinion. They are cheerful and beautiful little flowers, which just brighten your day when you see them. They arrive when the weather gets warm and when it's time to start thinking about things such as swimsuits and pool filters. Whenever I see them, I can't help but hear a little voice in my head saying, "Smile!"

Today's Flowers *Bokeh Beauty*

Now that spring (or maybe summer, the way the temperatures changed overnight) is here, I've got flowers to photograph, and I'm a very happy girl! Flowers and bugs and sunshine and warm weather makes me extremely happy.

In the photo below, I think the bokeh truly makes the photo. I makes it more artistic, even though I had nothing to do with creating the composition. I have to give all that credit to Mother Nature. She sure does beautiful work, don't you think?

(c) Misty DawnS

Some people dream of decorating their homes with state of the art furniture and modern couches. I dream of walking in the woods or sitting in a lawn chair surrounded by nature's beauty. Critters, flowers, and sunshine... yep, that's Heaven.

Camera-Critters #112

Last weekend, on Saturday morning, I couldn't sleep. I awoke at 3 a.m. I tried to go back to bed a couple times, but it was useless. I was wide awake, and there was no fighting it. Yeah, I guess the fact that I was covered in hives for some unknown reason played a part in that, but that's beside the point. So, since I couldn't sleep, I got Camera-Critters ready, opened it early, and decided to walk outside with the camera to watch the sunrise. Yes, some people read, some exercise on a treadmill, some count sheep when they can't sleep. Me... I go walking. I didn't have to go far to see something that made the photographer in me very excited.

When I got to my backyard pond, I realized I wasn't the only one who had come there to watch the sunrise...

Looking at the Sky on Friday *Pond Again*

This is my entry for my very, very late posting for Looking at the Sky on Friday. Ugh I wish I could catch up. Or, if I could have a few more hours in the day or a little extra energy, I'd settle for that too! You see, I've even got the photos that I want to post for the memes, but when I get home for work, finish my second job's work, take care of dinner and attending to my dogs, I just run out of energy and don't feel like looking at a computer screen anymore. *gasp* Misty just admitted that the computer isn't her whole life! Anyway, as a result, I don't get the posts done. So, I'm cheating and posting late. Such a loser, I am.

Fun & Comfy OR Sexy & Silky

Wow! It has been a busy and hectic week! On Monday, I had a very intense meeting at the end of the day, which left me worn out for my drive home. Speaking of my drive home, I was almost home when I had to turn around, because they closed the road to repair a bridge. Gee, thanks for the advanced warning! So, now I drive an hour to get to work, work for over eight hours, and then drive an hour home. Except, Tuesday, I had to go grocery shopping after work, and Wednesday I had to go to the dentist after work. By the time I was making the long hour drive home yesterday, all I wanted was to get home, put on some women's pajamas, and get comfy to watch the American Idol finale.

Speaking of womens pajamas... I'm thinking I need some very cute and comfy jammies with dragonflies on them!!! Or, a nightshirt or nightgown with dragonflies would be pretty too. Ohhhhh Border Collies all over would be appropriate for me too, don't ya think?

There's this really cute nightshirt at the women's pajamas (.com) website which has puppy dog prints on it. Obviously, you can buy women's pajamas on the previously mentioned website, and they also have some humorous nightgowns with snarky comments on them, which made me laugh. You know me and how I have so much trouble making decisions... I'll probably need to get several since I won't be able to choose. Hubs would probably appreciate if I got something cute and silky... nah, we'll stick with fun and comfy. ;-)

Macro Monday *Visiting the Field Mustard*

This photo fits both of the Monday memes I enjoy participating it. The Field Mustard is yellow for Mellow Yellow Monday, and the close up of the flower and visitor make it work for Macro Monday.

(c) Misty DawnS

I was able to find out the name of the flower (Field Mustard), but I have no idea what the winged visitor is called. I'm assuming it is a moth of some kind, but have no idea. So, we'll just call him Frankie. Thank you Frankie for posing for my photo.

Today's Flowers

Once again, I don't know what these wildflowers are called. I found them in the field while on one of my walks. I like the colors, so, I, of course, photographed them ;-)

(c) Misty DawnS

I tried looking up the name, but was unsuccessful. I'm so excited to see flowers starting to bloom. We've had a LOT of rain, but this week is supposed to be sunny and warm. So, I'm hoping that will coax more of the wildflowers out to show their beauty.

Camera-Critters #111

The following photo is one of my favorite photos I've captured in a very, very long time...

(c) Misty DawnS

I honestly didn't even know what I had captured until I was viewing my photos on the laptop. Even then, I must admit I scrolled past the photo, and then thought "Wait a minute..." and went back to it. Then, when I confirmed what I had thought I saw, I was quite pleased. I showed it to one of my best buds to see if he saw what I saw, and he immediately went crazy over the photo and started telling me how great it is. What it is... is LUCKY!

So, I ask you... should I title this photo...
Bobolink Brunch
I Bee Brunch
I Spy
or Do you have something else in mind?

Lip Reader?

(c) Misty DawnS

Conversation at the hospital while waiting for Hub's procedure on his back:

Me to Nurse: "He can't hear you. You're going to have to talk louder or make sure he's looking at you so he can read your lips."

Nurse to Hubs: "Oh. So, you're a lip reader, huh?"

Hubs to Nurse: "No. I just look at people's mouths to try to figure out what they are saying."

Me to Self: *SIGH*

True Colours Thursday *Red & White*

This week's True Colours prompt is "Red and White Together"
This one was a bit tough, but I came up with a recent photo,
which I think fits the theme.
(c) Misty DawnS

Now, some of you may disagree and say that you don't see 'red and white together', but I'm telling you to look closer. First, on the right side of the photo, there are red tulips with other white flowers (you can see them better if you click on the photo and view it larger). On the left there is a tree with white blooms, and another tree with pink blooms... Hey, pink is a version of red... I'm just sayin'. There are also burgundy bushes under those trees... and, you guessed it, burgundy is a form of red, but I'm sure you already knew that.

This photo was taken at the other university in the city where I work. I say 'other' because I work at THE university, so this is the other one. hehehe The university I work at is a Graduate University, and the one in this photo is an Undergraduate University. So, it's all good... no competition... honest! Maybe someone at this university could have told me what Acid cigars are, but I didn't take the time to ask. I was too busy taking photos.

Macro Monday *Reaching Out*

(c) Misty DawnS

This photo made me think of reaching out to another, as it looks like the dandelion on the right is reaching out to the one on the left. So, I did a Google search (Google and I are good friends. I use Google to search for everything from song lyrics to phone numbers to Outer banks foreclosures to images), and I discovered these lyrics, which I really like and think fit with the photo. I must admit I don't know the song, but I do like the lyrics...

(Excerpt from "Reach Out I'll Be There" by Four Tops)
... reach out reach out for me
I'll be there with a love that will shelter you
I'll be there with a love that will see you through

When you feel lost and about to give up (to give up)
Cause your life just ain't good enough (just ain't good enough)
And your feel the world has grown cold (has grown cold)
And you're drifting out all on your own (drifting out on your own)
And you need a hand to hold, darlin
reach out come on girl reach out for me
reach out reach out for me
I'll be there to love and comfort you
And I'll be there to cherish and care for you

I'll be there to always see you through
I'll be there to love and comfort you
I can tell the way you hang your head (hang your head)
Your not in love now, now your afraid (you're afraid)
And through the tears you look around (look around)
But there's no piece of mind to be found (no piece of mind to be found)
I know what your thinking,
You're alone now, no love of your own, but darling
reach out come on girl reach out for me
reach out reach out.......... just look over your shoulder
I'll be there to give you all the love you need
And I'll be there you can always depend on me
I'll be there to always see you through
I'll be there to love and comfort you

Today's Flowers *Wild Plum - I Think*

(c) Misty DawnS

I asked Hubs if he knew what this was. He replied, "I dunno. Looks like a wild cherry or wild crab apple... something wild." To which I replied, "I already knew it was wild!" I didn't have an unlocked phone nearby, and I was too lazy to get up and find one to call my dad. So, I decided to try my hand at figuring it out... Google and I are very good friends. From what I researched, this looks like a wild plum. I'm not positive, so if I'm wrong, feel free to correct me, and I'll honestly appreciate it. Trust me, it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong. So, for those experts out there, am I right? on the right track, but not quite? or am I way off base? Give it to me straight, I can take it. ;-)

Camera-Critters #110

Wait! What's that???
Is that what I think it is?
(c) Misty DawnS

Yep, sure looks like a raccoon to me!
Ummm, I think I'll keep a little bit of distance
since it's broad daylight and all.

It sure is cute though.
Don't ya think?

Repost - Anniversary of May 2009 Missouri Tornado

Today is the anniversary of last year's tornado. It's an anniversary of something I would rather not have experienced in the first place. However, on this day, I must also look back and be thankful... It also makes me think I have a purpose for still being here... I just hope I fulfill that purpose.

By the way, it, appropriately, has been thunderstorming for four days, and last night was terrible... flood warnings, severe storm warnings, and, of course, tornado warnings.

Below is a re-post of the post I typed, while still shaking, after finally getting home that night one year ago... (On my drive to and from work each day, even a year later, the damage and destruction is still visible)

They Say It Was an F-4; I Say It Was...Something I'll never... ever forget

(c) Misty DawnS

I was on my way home from work, and there were tornado 'watches'. I then heard about a tornado touching down in a town near my home. I called home, and Hubs said that he and our house were fine. He also said that I shouldn't have trouble driving, but since I tend to worry, I might want to turn around and go back to the little country store I had just passed.

(c) Misty DawnS - YES, that's my vehicle!!!

So, I turned around (right near the water tower) and went back to the store. I sat there for a little bit and it got really dark, so I decided to go into the store. Once inside, I kept calling Hubs, and he would relay the internet radar images to me. Then the store manager's son (also a volunteer firefighter) pulled in and said "It's on the ground right THERE" and pointed.

(c) Misty DawnS

We ran back inside and went to a back office with no windows. We all huddled on the floor. We heard the hail and the rain, and then we heard the "train" (I always wondered if it really sounds like that - well, trust me, it does). The walls shook and there was a deafening, booming explosion sound, and I thought the building was going to explode. A couple had come in right before it hit, and the guy had his arms around the girl and me, kind of sheltering us (I never even got a chance to tell him thank you). We all just kept repeating to each other "It's OK. We're going to be OK. It's alright. We're going to be fine." And then, it was gone, and it was just raining.

(c) Misty DawnS

I stood up on wobbly legs and called Hubs. I said "It hit us, but I'm OK." He must have thought I was just exaggerating. I walked to the door of the store and said "The Durango's windows are gone." and Hubs asked "WHAT???" I replied, "You thought I was exaggerating when I said it hit us, didn't you." He said "Yeah."

I stood outside watching emergency vehicles fly by, helicopters fly in and out, and law enforcement stopping traffic due to the telephone and power poles/wires laying in the road.

(c) Misty DawnS

Hubs was trying to come pick me up and take me home, but he had a heck of a time getting to me, because the road was closed (you can see why).

A Chevrolet car dealership in Kirksville was completely demolished, along with several houses. The damage is unbelievable and indescribable.

(c) Misty DawnS

On another note, the tornado that touched down in in the town near home killed the wife of a man I know. My heart breaks for him.

I was told that once the tornado which hit us touched down by us, it was a half mile wide.
I'm just thankful (and still shaking).

Ruby Tuesday *Lady in Red*

(c) Misty DawnS

When I saw this flower, I thought, "Well, that tulip sure looks strange." Of course, that prompted me to photograph it. Later when viewing the photos on my computer, I kept going back to this image. Just something about it kept grabbing my attention... or, 'tickled my fancy', as they say. So, I did a little bit of post-processing... that would be because I know about as much about post-processing as I do about side effects of diet pills... a.k.a not much. However, I managed to darken the background to cause the tulip to stand out more in the image. I think this tulip seems like it was destined to be the center of attraction.

Macro Monday *White Delicacy*

(c) Misty DawnS

I guess this isn't a true macro photo. However, it is a close-up, so I'm taking the liberty to stretch the rules this week. I need something to keep my mind off of the things which are stressing me out. No, I'm not searching frantically for the best weight loss pills. I'm worried and concerned about my Hubs, who has a ruptured disc in his back. The pain is terrible and to the point he can't stand it anymore. He has an appointment with a specialist this morning, and I'm praying that this doctor will know what to do and will be able to do it very soon so Hubs can have some relief and actually sleep at night again.

Also, according to the weather forecast, we're supposed to have a lot of thunderstorms this week. This week, Thursday to be exact, marks the one-year anniversary of the tornado I was in last year. I'd rather not have thunderstorms this week... I'm just not up to it.

Camera-Critters #109

Last weekend, I went for a walk, fully knowing it was a bit windy, but I really needed to get outside with the camera. I was photographing a flowering tree in the woods, and when walking out of the woods, figured I'd head back home. Then, I just got this feeling that I should go further, towards one of my favorite places to walk. So, I listened that voice, and I walked further. I was thankful I did, because when I topped a hill, this is what I saw...

(c) Misty DawnS

Wait!!! Is that a crazy lady with big camera I hear???
(c) Misty DawnS

Yes, I think it is! I coulda swore I heard a camera shutter.
(c) Misty DawnS

Lady, I am NOT here to be your model. I'm leaving!
(c) Misty DawnS

Seriously! I've got my feathers in a ruffle, and I'm done with you!
(c) Misty DawnS

Don't come any closer! Don't MAKE me go down there!
(c) Misty DawnS

Dang Woman! Don't you EVER go away???
(c) Misty DawnS

That's it! I've had enough! HA! I've taken to the air.
I'm really going now! Let's see you catch me now!!!
(c) Misty DawnS

Oh Craaaaaaaaaap! I forgot that turkeys can't fly very far!!!
Well, it was nice meeting ya. If you need me, I'll be
doing a crash landing in the bushes over there.
