ABC Wednesday *G is for Grass*

This week, for the ABC Wednesday Meme, we are on the letter "G". I had all sorts of ideas for images that showed subjects starting with the letter g, and I must admit that I surprised myself with the photo I decided to use. There really isn't any particular focal point in this photo. However, every time I walk back to this area near my pond, the various colors of "grass" always catch my eye. Well, as you know, when something catches my eye, I photograph it. This was a bit challenging for me, because I wasn't really focusing on a subject; Rather, I was trying to capture the various colors I was experiencing. So, I may not have photographed this properly, but this is what I came up with anyway...

(I think it's much better when viewed large. So, click on the photo to view it large and tell me what you think.)

Ruby Tuesday *Pink... The New Red*

O.K. So, this isn't really, technically red. However, pink is a variation of the color red, right? So, it's O.K. to post pink for Ruby Tuesday, right? Ummmm am I right? *sigh* If I'm not right, then I'll remove my entry. Just sayin'. But I think it will be O.K. hehe

Once again, I'm posting an image of flowers from the outside flower planters at the university where I work. Knowing that the flowers will soon be gone causes me to want to capture their beauty while they are still here. As I said in my Today's Flowers post, I was so into the 'photography zone' while taking these photos, I didn't even notice the group of students sitting on a blanket in the lawn giving me very strange looks. LOL Just some more people to think I have issues.

Do you notice that one of the flowers has a visitor?

Macro Monday *Buckeye Duo*

I don't usually say this about my own photos, but I really, really like this photo. I was thrilled to capture two of my favorite butterfly, the Common Buckeye, in the same image. Plus they are both showing off their beautiful wings, which is an added bonus! And, did I mention they are on a purple wildflower? Just sayin'!

But, I have to wonder... do you think that one is planning an ambush from behind to claim the wildflower all to itself? I do think I detect a plan here...

Today's Flowers *Rose Bokeh*

The other day at work, one of my friends came back from lunch and came into my office. She told me I needed to take my camera and go outside and take a photo of the butterfly sitting on the cement by the fountain. Yes, I take my camera to work with me... is that strange?

Anyway, I, of course, obliged her. I swung the camera bag over my shoulder and headed down the steps and out the door. I photographed the Buckeye butterfly who was waiting to model for me, and then I proceeded to take a few photos of the flowers in the flower garden and outdoor planters. I was so lost and wrapped up in my 'photography zone' that I hadn't even noticed the group of students sitting on a blanket in the grass. LOL They were all looking at me kinda of strange... They probably thought I was weird. Oh well.

Camera-Critters #125

Hubs got home late the other night. Well, actually, Hubs had got home late every night this week, but that's beside the point. Anyway... Hubs got home, and before he even had the door shut, he called to me and asked when I got the new pet. As I jumped up to come see what he was talking about, he was telling me I might want my camera (which I was already grabbing).

Isn't it funny that I'm grabbing my camera even with no idea what I'm going to see?

"Hey Honey, it's the end of the world."

"Oh, o.k. lemme grab my camera."

I might as well just keep it hanging from my neck at all times.

Oh yeah... anyway...

When I got to where Hubs was standing, he just pointed, and I started giggling. My new pet had affixed himself to our door. I guess he was wanting to be the welcoming committee....

(c) Misty DawnS

I think it's so neat how the glass, lighting, and camera caused the frog to have more than one reflection.

"Oh darling reflection! Oh how I love you!
Errrr, both of you. I mean all four of you!"
How many gorgeous reflections can one frog handle???
(c) Misty DawnS

And this is what you saw on the other side of the glass.
No, my windows aren't really that dirty.
O.K., who am I kidding? Yes they are.

Looking at the Sky on Friday *Invasion Take Two*

Yes, I'm posting another photo from my experience with the thousands of Common Green Darner dragonflies, which are attracted to the hay bales stacked along the road. Hey, I couldn't help myself! I think the photos are cool, even if I wasn't at all successful at capturing the dragonflies in focus. Trust me, when you have thousands of dragonflies in constant motion, it is VERY difficult to capture any of them in focus. Trust me, I tried several times... thank goodness for digital. Otherwise, I would have gone through lots of film.

On another note, my office partner, who has become one of my dearest friends, just got a couple local jobs taking family photos and senior portraits! I'm SO happy for her, because I really think her portrait photography is outstanding! She thinks I'm just being nice, but I honestly think she could make a living at it. So... way to go "Gooby"!!! And, if you chicken out and don't take these opportunities, I'll never shut up about it! hehe

ABC Wednesday *F is for Frogs*

This week, for the ABC Wednesday meme, we are on the letter "F". Some of you may have already seen this photo on Misty's Words, because I used it for last week's Camera-Critters. However, I hadn't used it on this blog, and it definitely fits for the letter "F".

So, I present to you...

"F" is for Frogs
(c) Misty DawnS

The temperatures were in the 90's, and it was VERY, VERY humid and hot and just plain miserable. So, I was amazed when I saw hundreds of frogs sitting on top of the algae on the pond. I'm telling ya, if it were me, I'd be in the water cooling off!

Macro & Mellow Yellow Monday *Color Coordinated*

Yes, I'm combining memes again! I can't help it!!! If this photo doesn't fit both memes, I don't know what does!

I think it is so awesome how the colors of this Clouded Sulphur Butterfly are coordinated with the colors of the flower it is visiting! Obviously, the wings of the butterfly are color coordinated with the petals of the flower. Also, if you click on the photo to view it larger, you will see that even the green eye of the butterfly matches the green stem of the flower! How cool is that?!?! Nature ROCKS!

Today's Flowers *Wildflower Art*

This time, for Today's Flowers, I decided to use some more abstract or artistic photos of some wildflowers growing back by my pond. Yes, I spend a LOT of time back by my pond. ;-) These aren't necessarily some of my best photos. However, something caught my eye, so I captured it with the camera. And, since there's something about each image which appeals to me, I decided to share them with you. I hope you enjoy them, and I hope you're having a fantastic weekend!

Looking at the Sky on Friday *Invasion*

I'm late for this week's Looking at the Sky on Friday meme post, but what else is new? I feel like I'm late to everything anymore! I've got so much going on and not enough hours in the day or not enough days in the week! I'm tired... so... very... tired! However, I didn't want to miss this meme, because it's one of my favorites!

If you click on the photo to view it large, you will be able to see what caused me to stop to take some photos. There were thousands of Darner dragonflies flying over these round hay bales. You ask why? I have no idea. However, it was pretty cool, and it was quite a challenge trying to photograph them, at which I wasn't very successful. I WAS however successful at getting some good photos of some other critters I saw that night... but to see them, you'll have to come visit my Camera-Critters post tomorrow!!!

Who Else Can I Get to Move Here?

As I mentioned in last week's Looking at the Sky on Friday meme post, my step-son recently moved from Ohio to Missouri. He now lives just down the road from us.

Slowly, he has been trying to get his new home set up. Since this is his first time being on his own, he needs quite a few things to have a 'complete' home. Besides, it's better that he gets some of the things, such as a washer and dryer, now that he's already here. Otherwise, he would have had to hire some long distance movers, because he wouldn't have been able to fit everything in his truck.

He did luck out and was able to enlist some help from his grandparents, because they had been out visiting Ohio and were headed back around the same time he was making his move out here. So, he saved the cost of moving services, which is nice for someone who is just starting on his own for the first time.

However, he wouldn't have lucked out like that if he were moving anywhere other than here. If he were moving to Chicago, I don't think Grandma and Grandpa would have been of service. hehe. All in all, he's doing well and getting himself set up comfortably. His dad and I also enjoy having him near.

Hmmm... I'm still working on trying to convince my dad to move out here. :-D

Blue's Coloured Thursday *Rainbow*

This week, for Blue's Coloured Thursday, a.k.a. True Colours Thursday, the theme is "Rainbow". Well, I decided to take the theme quite literally, as you will see from my photo. Who doesn't love a rainbow? Besides, don't ya always wanna go look for the pot of gold when you see a rainbow? In my photo, the pot of gold would have been right in the middle of the trees in the field across the street. I don't think anyone found the gold though. ;-)

ABC Wednesday *E is for Equipment"

I'm having a blast being a part of the ABC Wednesday meme. It really makes me think to come up with a photo for each letter each week. So far, I've done pretty well, but we'll see how I do when the tougher letters come up.

This week, we are on the letter "E". The vowels are more challenging than you may think! Just join in the game by clicking on the badge at the top of this post and have fun with the challenge!

For the letter "E", I present to you...

Camera-Critters #123

I have a confession to make. There's something you may not know about me. It may come as a big shock to you, but trust me, I'm still the same person you've come to love (you do love me, dontcha?). O.K., I'll get right to it. You see...

I have an obsession with bugs.

Why aren't you acting surprised? What? You knew all along? What gave it away?

Well, I have a particular obsession this time of year with a particular bug called the Robber Fly. Most people look at the Robber Fly and think it is freaky looking... or scary... or ugly. Man, it was hard for me to type "ugly" and "Robber Fly" in the same sentence!

Me... I think they are awesome and SO COOL! Just look!

How could you possibly resist those eyes?
(c) Misty DawnS

Is this not one of the coolest bugs you've ever seen?
(c) Misty DawnS

They look almost like a prehistoric bug or something.
They are definitely unique.
(c) Misty DawnS

Not only am I obsessed with bugs,
I'm also a bug voyeur.
(Don't send the cops)
(c) Misty DawnS

"WHOA! Who you callin' ugly???"

Looking at the Sky on Friday *New View*

My step-son recently moved out here, and he now lives just down the road from us, where he is renting a trailer by some of our farm property. He is 20 years old, and this is the first he's been 'on his own'. He has been busy getting his new home set up how he wants it, and he is thrilled with the property. He's got plans for his backyard fire pit, a hammock under some shade trees, and clearing out around a pond. He asked me to come and take photos of his new place so he could send them to his friends. This photo is his view from his front yard. Not a bad view, huh?

He's been doing pretty well, and we enjoy having him nearby. In fact, I've gone to his place and sat in the back yard with him just chatting. We tell stories and talk about his plans. Of course, we also talk about introducing him to some girls his age. He's definitely not against that, and I doubt he'd be against them wearing some apple bottoms jeans either. LOL All in all, I think he's happy with his decision, and I hope he continues to stay on the right course.

Blue's Coloured Thursday *Sage*

I've posted photos of this plant, which is called Rattlesnake Master, before, but I think it's a really neat looking plant, so I'm posting another photo of it. Besides, it fits in perfectly with this week's theme for True Colours Thursday, which is now being called Blue's Coloured Thursdays. Blue started the True Colours Thursday meme, but she is now taking a needed break from blogging. So, some of her friends were kind enough to take over and keep this colorful meme going while she was absent. I've said it before, and I'll say it again... blogging friends are awesome friends! They are always there to lend a helping hand. Heck, they'd even help you find 5th wheel insurance, if you needed it. Blogging friends ROCK! So, I'm glad to continue joining in this fun and colorful meme!

So, I present to you the color "sage"
in the Rattlesnake Master plant.

I Want to Watch Movies

I love to watch movies. My love of movies is similar to my obsession with books. When I find an actor or actress I really like, I end up wanting to watch ALL their movies. Yeah, it's a thing with me.

When summer rolled around, Hubs and I talked about putting our dish cable on vacation. We talked about this for a couple reasons. First, we pay quite a bit a month for that service. Second, there really isn't much on television this time of year. So, I suggested that we put the dish cable on vacation and join a service that offers a great deal on unlimited movies! I thought it was the perfect plan! Usually, when I ask Hubs if he wants to watch a movie, he acts like he's not interested. However, when we finally do sit down together and watch a movie, we really enjoy the time together.

So, I was thinking that if we could find some deals at Netflix, it would be a great idea. I've heard so many wonderful things about Netflix. In fact, everyone I've talked to who uses Netflix absolutely loves it.

I don't have Hubs convinced yet. However, I'm not giving up, because I think it would be something we'd really enjoy, and it would give us some quality time together, which we are quite short on lately.

ABC Wednesday *D is for Dog*

This week we are on the letter "D" for the ABC Wednesday Meme. I'm so glad I started regularly participating in this meme, because it is fun, and I look forward to the challenge each week.

I took the below photo in my office at work. I won the jar, which was full of regular M&Ms, at the work Christmas party, because I guessed the closest to the number of M&Ms in the jar. So, my office partner and I decided to keep the jar in the office and take turns filling it with goodies for whomever comes in our office. We haven't had to fill it very often though, because other people in the department keep buying goodies for us to put in the jar. Basically, they come in the office specifically to get some of the goodies, then they make some comment about there needing to be locking clamps on the jar to stop them from eating so much of it. hehe Then they end up going and buying us stuff to replace it with. So, that worked out pretty well. Don't ya think? I won the stuffed Snoopy Dog at a seminar I attended at work. I gave it to my office partner to take home to her kids, but she decided it would make a good mascot for our office.

The other day, I filled the jar with some peanut M&Ms that one of our co-workers had bought. Then both my office partner and I commented at the same time that it looked neat with all the colored M&Ms in the jar and Snoopy Dog there to guard them. So, I, of course, photographed it.

"D" is for Dog.
More specifically Snoopy Dog doll. ;-)

Ruby Tuesday *Lady in Red*

Most of you know that I have an obsession with bugs. Yes, I realize that causes most of you to also think I'm a bit strange. hehe Since I do love photographing bugs, I've been having a blast back at my pond along the blackberry and raspberry rows. There are all kinds of wildflowers growing there, and the bugs love hanging out there. This gives me the opportunity to photograph all kinds of bugs... butterflies, dragonflies, Robber Flies, grasshoppers, bees, and more. Saturday, while I was back there with the camera in hand, I was delighted to make the acquaintance of the Ladybug in the photo below. For some reason, I've always had trouble getting a good ladybug photo. So, I was rather pleased with how this photo turned out.

This bug doesn't need to worry about finding sexy costumes.
It's beautiful & sexy just the way it is!

Mellow Yellow Monday *Sunny Days*

I, once again, could have used my Macro Monday photograph for Mellow Yellow Monday, because it is of a Swallowtail butterfly, which has yellow on its wings. However, when I took the photo below, I specifically had Mellow Yellow Monday in mind. So, I was eager to use this photo for Mellow Yellow Monday, because I like the whole composition of this photo, and I really like the bokeh (blurred and out of focus background) in the photo.

These flowers remind me of sunshine and sunny days. So, I guess it's quite appropriate that I'm posting this photo this week, because we are experiencing some serious sunny and H.O.T. days right now. In fact, we are under excessive heat warnings. We don't have the luxury of central air in our home. I must admit... as much as I LOVE summer, I'm ready for fall. I never thought I'd say that I was ready for summer to end, but this summer has been an exception for me. It has either been pouring rain for days, or it has been so hot that you can't get out and enjoy summer. *sigh* I'd be ready to check out some Outer banks short sales, but it's probably hot there too. In fact, I think it has been excessively hot in many areas of the country. So, I should probably quit complaining, because it could always be worse!

Macro Monday *Damaged*

After I hurt my back, which the doctor says was a pelvic shear (and I'm not sure what that is), Hubs was VERY protective of me. He didn't want me doing anything. I think it really scared him when I got home and couldn't move without being in severe pain. However, it got to the point that I HAD to be able to do some stuff. Besides, I felt that if I would just lie around in pain all day then whatever was wrong with my back would never work itself out and get better. So, being a bad little patient, a couple times, I snuck outside, just to walk around a bit and try to get my back to correct itself. During one of those secret outings, I was lucky enough to photograph, although it was very painful, this Swallowtail butterfly. At the time, I think this butterfly and I could relate to each other. I was feeling quite damaged, and, as you can see by looking at its wings, this butterfly has had its own share of rough moments. We didn't sit around smoking romeo y julieta cigars and sharing our life stories, but we did have a bit of a bonding moment while this butterfly allowed me to photograph it and reminded me that we can persevere.
