Macro Monday *I'm a Bot Fly, Baby*

I noticed this fly sitting on one of the last Queen Anne's Lace flowers we have remaining, and I thought, "If this fly allows me to get close enough, it could be the star of Macro Monday on my blog for a week." Well, I lucked out, because it was a very cooperative model. In fact, after photographing it for a while, I walked away to go explore other areas, and when I came back, this Bot Fly was still sitting on the same flower.

It has obviously been through a lot in its lifetime,
based on the shape it is in (especially the wings).
However, I appreciated it posing for some macro portraits.
"Here's my side view. Do you like the spikes on my butt? Cool huh?"
"How bout my nose? Some people thing big noses aren't cool - Mine is WAY cool!"
(c) Misty DawnS

"Now, for the head shot. I really am sexy, right?"
Yes, Dear Bot Fly, you are sexy. Work if for the camera, Baby!
(c) Misty DawnS

Yes, although it had been through some tough times, this Bot Fly was a great model. No need for the best fat burners for this critter - It's got it going on! hehe

Today's Flowers *Red Sunflower*

I've been going through my archives lately and looking at old photos. It's fun and enlightening, because in some photos, I see how far I've come with my photography. Other photos, I simply forgot I even had. That's what happens when you take so many photos, I guess.

I took the following photo on October 3, 2008. I had only had my DSLR camera for three months! I was asked to come photograph a family for a small family reunion, and while photographing them at a local bed and breakfast, one of the family members noticed and commented on this red sunflower. After the family photos were done, I, of course, had to photograph the sun highlighting the red sunflower.

I suggest you click on the photo to view it larger.

PhotoHunt *Dark*

Are you afraid of the dark?
Do you hear things go bump in the night?
Are you afraid of the dark?
Do you desperately seek out the light?
(c) Misty DawnS

Are you afraid when you turn around
of what may be there?
Does the absence of light,
give your heart a scare?
(c) Misty DawnS

Of the dark, my friend,
do not fear.
For, it's in the light
when the shadows appear.
(c) Misty DawnS

You are left wondering what is it
that is stalking me?
Just shapes and shadows,
what could it be?
(c) Misty DawnS

Afraid of the dark, my friend,
you should not be.
For in the light,
the shadows you will see.

I hope I didn't just cause you any stress related hair loss. hehe Have a safe, fun, and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Macro Flowers *Half N Half*

Macro Flowers Saturday badge 1

While out on a walk last weekend (at the place you're probably sick of hearing about), this Clover flower caught my eye. I thought it was interesting in the way that its bloom is 'half and half'. Hmmm, we have products for hair loss for people; This clover needs some products for petal loss for flowers, I think. Yes, many things, big and small, catch my eye, and, yes, I pretty much photograph it all, if I'm able. Besides, the flowers are far and few between now. So, I feel I owe it to them to capture their beauty and uniqueness before they are gone.

Camera-Critters #134

Due to experiencing a Fibromyalgia flare, which has me in constant pain and fatigue, I haven't been able to get out to get any new photos this week. Not only does the flare affect me physically, but it is affecting me emotionally too, as I am very angry and frustrated with my body which will not allow me to properly function as I normally would. Oh well, enough of the whining.

This is a photo of an Eastern Phoebe (if I'm correct in my identification). I think they are such pretty little birds. This one was nice enough to pause and pose for a portrait - Say that 10 times fast!

Buddy, I think you're gonna need some riding boots
if you get too close to those barbs!

Looking at the Sky on Friday *Halloween Tweak or Treat*

This week's Looking at the Sky on Friday post is a bit of a different one for me. You see, I started with this image, which didn't really portray what I was trying to capture in my mind.

(c) Misty DawnS

So, I decided to play around with it a bit and give it a different feel. I guess I wasn't looking to create an image you'd use for office d├ęcor, but I wanted something that had more of a Halloween-type feel. After all, it is almost Halloween!!! So...
I tried it in Sepia
(c) Misty DawnS

and, I tried it in Black and White...
(c) Misty DawnS

Then, I got really crazy, and turned that Black and White image
into a Negative. With a few tweaks, I think I got myself
a Halloween appropriate image.
(c) Misty DawnS

What do you think? Which one do you like, if any???

Halloween Games

(c) Misty DawnS

No, this image doesn't have anything to do with what I'm going to talk about in this post, but it's almost Halloween. Therefore, I felt the need to post this image in honor of Halloween. Then again, maybe this image is relevant, because I'm going to talk about the fun game system called the xbox. Oh yes, if you have children, you probably know all about gaming systems. How did we ever live without them? Seriously, they've advanced to much in the graphics and abilities of the gaming console. So, maybe my image is relevant, because I'm sure there are many xbox games which involve cemeteries, zombies, and other 'creeps in the night' subjects. Do your kids have gaming systems or do they play computer games. OR... are YOU the gaming addict. C'mon now, tell the truth!

I'd Jump Up & Down with Excitement If It Wouldn't Hurt

The fibro monster has reared its ugly head and decided to make me hurt... all over. ugh. I haven't had a flare like this in a long time. It started in my legs, and then proceeded to move all over my body. Now, everything hurts. I wish I had heated mattress pads and could just crawl back in bed and not climb out until the monster goes away! Even my fingers hurt, and since all three of my jobs involve typing, painful fingers pose a problem. ugh.

On a much better note, I have some exciting news! I received an e-mail from the editor of a rural magazine yesterday. He requested that I send him two of my photos at a higher resolution for consideration for publication in their January/February magazine issue! Woot!!! If it wouldn't hurt so bad, I'd be jumping up and down right now!!! You have no idea how exciting this is for me! Well, it will be even more exciting if they do, in fact, publish one of the photos, of course. It will be a dream come true to see one of my photos published in a magazine. Heck, that is THE dream! Keep your fingers crossed.

ABC Wednesday *O is for Oriole*

I missed doing a post last week for ABC Wednesday. I had a post all planned out in my head, but I just never got the time to actually sit down and do the post :-( So, I missed out on the letter "N". So much for making it through the whole alphabet! Oh well, I'm gonna cheat. Shhhhh... don't tell anyone! I'm just simply going to say that this is my blog and I can do whatever I want. ahahahahahaha Don't ya love how that works? You could never cheat when hooked up to an ekg machine, but when you have your own blog, you call the shots. hehe.

So, for last week's "N", I will tell you that my photography is all about nature. I use many forms of photography, such as macro, abstract, wildlife, landscape, etc, but it's all nature photography, such as the photo below.

For this week's "O", I present to you a NATURE photo of a Baltimore Oriole, which we didn't have the pleasure of seeing this year. I think that is due to the really crazy summer weather we had. So, this image is from 2009.

"N" is for Nature photography
"O" is for Baltimore Oriole

Ruby Tuesday *Get the Point*

The following photo is one of my new favorites. There's just something about this photo that I really like. Apparently, I'm not the only one, because several of my Flickr friends and co-workers like this photo, and both my husband and step-daughter really like it also. I suggest clicking on the photo to view it larger and get the full effect of the image and its composition. I call it "Get the Point", and I have a feeling you'll be able to see why I gave it that title.

(c) Misty DawnS

You might find yourself visiting someone who has a healthcare job, if you were to absentmindedly walk into the scene in my photo. Ouch!

Happy Birthday Tam

Tomorrow is a very special day. Tomorrow is the birthday of one of my best friends. She's funny. She's smart. She's pretty. She's thoughtful. She's caring. She's a great mom, and she's a great friend... to me and many of my fellow bloggers. Therefore, I wanted to give you advanced notice of her birthday, so we can flood her blogs with special birthday wishes! So, click here and click here, and send the very special Tammy of Mom Knows Everything and A Little Girl Talk many happy birthday wishes! Tam, I was going to get you, Johnny, the kids, and me Disney vacations, but Minnie Mouse said she wouldn't allow someone as hot as you around Mickey. Sorry!

Mellow Yellow Monday *Yellow Abstract*

Many of you will think the below photo is strange, and you'll probably think I'm strange for taking the photo. LOL Oh well. I guess it's nothing new for some people to think I'm strange. You see, as I've said in other posts, for some reason, I've been noticing and capturing a lot of abstract images lately. So, when I saw this moss/fungus on the tree, I started to walk by, but then, next thing I knew, I had turned around and was photographing the tree. So, if I'm strange... so be it. hehe

(c) Misty DawnS

I guess since this isn't the type of tree you decorate with led christmas lights, Mother Nature decided to decorate it with colorful bark. hehe

Macro Monday *Mummified*

This scene caught my attention for several reasons. First, I noticed the lighting, and how it made the grasses seem to glow. Second, I noticed the spider web completely covering the head of this piece of grass. It looked like it was mummified, and it provided even more for the sun to set aglow. Finallly, I knew the autumn colored grasses in the background would provide for beautiful bokeh. This may not seem to be a true macro, but if you click on the photo to view it larger, you will see more details, which make it appropriate for this meme.

(c) Misty DawnS

I wonder if this grass's family was able to provide funeral arrangements before the poor thing was mummified. Yes, I realize I have serious issues. LOL

Today's Flowers *Great Lobelia*

I won't even tell you where I located this wildflower, because I'm sure you can already guess, and I'm sure you're sick of hearing it. LOL There aren't many wildflowers left in October, so I try to photograph any I see. This one is a new one for me, as I haven't noticed it before now. So, naturally, I photographed it and decided to share it with all of you for Today's Flowers. I did some research to see if I could find the proper name of this beauty, and I succeeded!

Great Lobelia

I've done a slide show of my favorite pictures on my photography website. Now, I'm considering doing slide shows of each category of my photos, such as flowers, wildlife, etc. What do you think? Good idea? Or, overkill?

SOOC Sunday *Our Barn*

This week for SOOC (Straight Out Of the Camera) Sunday, I decided to use a photo of our barn. Yes, the photo is crooked, which is proof that I didn't alter it, and it is, therefore, acceptable for this meme. Then again, is the photo crooked? The top of the barn looks level... hmmm optical illusion.

We've got big plans for this barn... eventually. Right now, Hubs is out building a dog kennel which will be attached to the barn so the dogs can go in or out as they please. Also, we planned to put a recreation area up in the loft of the barn (this is waaaaay in the future), complete with a pool table. Hubs planned to put a photography studio in the loft of the barn also, but I'm thinking I don't need a studio, since I don't do 'people' photography and don't plan to. Maybe a gallery-type display of prints and displays of personalized gifts for sale would be better.

PhotoHunt *Orange*

I posted the below photos on my Misty's Words blog last week for Camera-Critters. However, I decided to use them on this blog for Saturday PhotoHunt this week, because the theme is "orange". Yes, I know... most people hear 'orange' this time of year, and they think pumpkins, gourds, candy corn, or leaves. Misty, on the other hand, thinks of bugs. hehehe I'm sure you can picture me going through my photos thinking, "Hmmm, what orange bugs do I have?"

(c) Misty DawnS

(c) Misty DawnS

Speaking of candy corn (yes, I did mention it. I'll wait while you go back and read)... It's almost Halloween!!! If you take part in Halloween and have kids, what are their costumes this year? Oh, and even better, why kind of candy went across the barcode scanner at the store for you to hand out this year?

Macro Flowers *Unknown Little Beauty*

Macro Flowers Saturday badge 1

This pretty little wildflower is exactly that... little! Also, it grows very close to the ground, so it is easy to overlook it and not get the chance to enjoy its beauty and intricacy. While I didn't go to, I have searched the internet high and low and can not figure out what the name of this wildflower is. I was really beginning to frustrate myself, so I finally gave up and decided to post it and admit I have no idea what it is called! Sometimes, you just have to admit when you have no clue! LOL Anyway, regardless of what it is called, I think it's pretty and interesting, and I've been known to sit right down in the grass to get a closer look.

Camera-Critters #133

This week, we had an absolutely gorgeous day on Wednesday. I know, with winter coming, the beautiful and warm days will be far and few between. So, as any nature photography addict would do, I left work early. I got home, and I headed back to my pond (yes, my pond again) with the camera. I was thinking to myself that I probably wouldn't see anything new at the pond (You thought I was thinking about anti wrinkle cream, didn't ya?). You see, it's pretty much the same thing this time of year, unless I'm lucky enough to see a couple deer grazing in the field. As I was thinking I needed to go for a further walk to see something new, something caught my eye. It looked like something was sitting at the edge of the pond, beyond the grass, turning its head back and forth. As I walked closer, I realized I was right, and I was seeing what I thought I was seeing...

(c) Misty DawnS

I got a little too close for comfort, and the Northern Harrier decided to take flight. However, it must have been interested in me (or ticked off because I disturbed it), because it decided to circle over me a few times while giving me 'the eye'...

"That'll teach you for thinking there's nothing to see at the pond!"
(c) Misty DawnS

I threw this shot in for a bonus, as it wasn't taken on the same day. I took this photo a few days before my close encounter with the Northern Harrier at my pond...

Looking at the Sky on Friday *The Tree*

I've got an issue with this tree. Yes, this particular tree. Every time I go for a walk through the pastures and along my woods, I can't help but look at this particular tree, and, usually, I snap a photo of it. I've got SO many photos of this tree... winter photos, fall photos, summer photos, spring photos. Yep, I'm drawn to this image like a magnet. I think it's the solidarity of this single tree sitting in the middle of the sloping hills of the pasture. It just always catches my eye... and usually the focus of my camera lens too. If I had ncstar binoculars, I'd probably look at this tree! hehe

Ruby Tuesday *Grass of Many Colors*

Apparently, I've been an abstract mood lately. LOL Yes, I've already said that in other posts. I've just been wondering why I get in different photography moods when I do. I'm pretty much ALWAYS in a macro photography mood, but more so in the spring and summer, which would make sense, because that's when the insects and flowers are available. I seem to get in an abstract mood in autumn. Hmmm I wonder if it's because of the colors, and they just catch my eye in a different way.

Macro Monday *X Marks the Bokeh*

My image this week is not a very detailed, "true" macro in the sense of the word. However, I like the dew on the grass and the bit of spider web. And, since those things are quite small, I'm thinking this image is O.K. for Macro Monday! Oh, I also love the bokeh in this image.

I guess I've been in a bit of an 'abstract' mood lately, as I've posted several fine art, abstract type images. Hmmm, I wonder if that means something. LOL
