New Hopes, New Ideas, New Goals... New Year

(c) Misty DawnS

Once again, we're approaching the start of a new year. The time for new beginnings, new choices, new ideas, resolutions, and renewed hope is upon us. It's almost time to bring in 2011!

Do you make New Year's resolutions? I do, and I don't. I don't verbally declare a resolution for the new year and put all sorts of pressure on myself to not break that resolution. God knows I have enough stress as it is. I don't need to go creating more for myself.

What I do is examine my past year, determine what was good and what wasn't, and then determine what I can do to make this coming year better. I must admit 2010 wasn't one of my best years. Then again, it wasn't all that bad either. I did, in fact, stick to my 'resolution' for 2010 and made the accomplishment I had promised myself. Here's a quote from one of my end-of-December posts of 2009:

"Oh, and if you are interested, one of my resolutions was to create my website where I can sell my photography. Well, I started that one early and began a free trial. My trial expires in 13 days. After I see if there's any interest, then I'll decide if I'm going to purchase the site for a year. No sense purchasing it if it isn't going to at least pay for itself."

Well, it did, in fact pay for itself. I got my money back and had a very, very small profit left over. Since that money was made mostly from a co-worker and my sister-in-law, I have doubts whether the site will pay for itself during 2011 or not, but I'll give it another year (as I promised myself at the beginning of 2010), and we'll see.

I also got my very first paid publication in the January/February issue of GRIT Magazine. Yes, I realize it was published in a 2011 issue, but the issue was printed in 2010. LOL

Anyway, what are my resolutions and goals for 2011? Well, I'm still thinking on that to come up with specifics, but they will involve some changes to the way I post on this blog, Flickr, and my website.

Enough about me!!! What about you? What are your resolutions, goals, or wishes for the new year??? Don't be shy - shout them out - then we can all encourage and support each other!

Interesting question. At the beginning of 2010, I was on a roll, churning out chapters for my book as fast as I could. Then I ran into writer's block. Big time writer's block. So I started posting to photo memes and writing memes. I still haven't written another chapter, but I feel a lot better about myself.
I'm not going to say "my New Year's resolution is to finish my book" because that sounds too much like pressure. Instead, I'm going to be grateful for what I have done, for the things I've learned in the process, and for the friends I've made along the way.

From mom Beaglebratz - I have found that making New Year's resolutions to be a bit of a waste of time. I'm like you tho in a way - no hard copy/don't write them down but rather sort of keep my resolutions on the back burner or tell myself "this is what I HOPE to accomplish or change in the New Year". After spending Feb - June of this year with very low-vision in the only eye I have vision in, (able to live on my own but not able to do much else), making any long-range plans or goals has gone by the wayside (especially when I know it could happen again, or worse) - living each day to its fullest has taken on new meaning and I envy the Beaglebratz for truly being able to do that. There is one that I truly hope to be able to make happen - improve our blog; I have already started work on that and I only hope that change is headed in a good direction.

It sounds like you definitely had some good positives to 2010 despite thinking it wasn't one of your best years! If making resolutions works for you, which it seems it does, then stick with it! I don't make resolutions exactly, but I do try and start something new at the beginning of the year. I am definitely getting ready to roll out a 365 project soon! Hope you have a great 2011.
