A Year in Review Critter Style - Camera-Critters #143

Happy New Year!!!

To all my wonderful Camera-Critters Friends:
May 2011 be your best year yet! May you experience good health, love, memories, dreams come true, accomplished goals, and happiness.

For this special Camera-Critters, I decided to do a year-in-review post... critter style. :-) I was going to just post one photo for each month, but there were some months in which I just couldn't choose. LOL So, some months have more than one photo. Besides, there are a LOT of bird photos... I never realized how many birds I photograph!

The Giant Catfish & The People I Don't Know

(c) Misty DawnS
(Before you panic... this catfish was caught and released - unharmed, except for its pride. It is now merrily swimming around in my pond, hopefully eating the excess of small Bluegill.)

I had a dream last night. Since most of my days have been consumed with thoughts of what I can do better and how I can improve things for the new year, I'm wondering how the heck this dream plays into everything. One could think I'm just terribly sick of winter and eager for warmer weather and fishing, but I think it must have a much deeper meaning. All dreams have meaning, right?

So, I was standing on a dock at a reservoir, and I look out over the water, and I see something huge surface and roll around at the top of the water. I squint and look closer, and I see it again. It's a HUGE... we're talking GIGANTIC... we're talking whale-sized catfish. So I turn to two guys who were standing on the next dock over, and I ask, "Did you see that thing?" (By the way, I have never seen either of those two guys in my non-dreaming life.)

The guys see the gigantic fish, and when I turn back around, one of the guys is gone... running up the bank (chicken!). The other guy is waving his arms around and yelling, "It's coming this way!"

So I turn back towards the fish, and it is now coming under the dock I'm standing on, but it is too big to clear it (we're talking whale-sized catfish, people!). So, the dock breaks apart, and I fall into the water. *At this point of the dream, I remember thinking to myself, "No big deal, I'm a good swimmer. Besides, this is a dream, and surely you can't be swallowed by a fish in your own dream! - Yeah, someone tell Jonah that!*

I start to swim, but the catfish is right there. I keep remembering their sharp fins, which seriously hurt when they cut you (yeah, had my fishing sense with me even in my dream), and I figured a catfish this big with fins that big could certainly cut my leg right off. So, I keep trying to propel myself through the water by pushing off of the fishes lips and head. Except... you ever tried to 'propel' yourself through water before? Not so easy... not even in a dream.

Next thing I know, I'm straddling the fish and riding it like a horse, and I realize it's SO big that my legs don't even reach those sharp fins. Finally, the fish makes a turn, and I realize I'm near the shore. So, I frantically head for the shore, struggling to kick the catfish away the entire time.

I make it to the shore, crawl up a hill, and go running into a cabin. There are two women asleep in the cabin, and I exclaim, "How can you be sleeping?!?! I need a fishing pole right now!" But the women didn't wake up, and I just stood there staring at them trying to figure out who they were, because I thought I recognized them, but wasn't sure.

Then, I woke up, with visions of a giant catfish head flashing before my eyes. Each time I closed my eyes for the rest of the night, I saw a giant catfish head staring at me.

What does it all mean??? I think this dream requires serious analyzing (like even more than when you're picking out the best 1st birthday invitations)... either that, or I need to have a catfish dinner tonight. Take that Mr. Whale-Sized Catfish!

New Hopes, New Ideas, New Goals... New Year

(c) Misty DawnS

Once again, we're approaching the start of a new year. The time for new beginnings, new choices, new ideas, resolutions, and renewed hope is upon us. It's almost time to bring in 2011!

Do you make New Year's resolutions? I do, and I don't. I don't verbally declare a resolution for the new year and put all sorts of pressure on myself to not break that resolution. God knows I have enough stress as it is. I don't need to go creating more for myself.

What I do is examine my past year, determine what was good and what wasn't, and then determine what I can do to make this coming year better. I must admit 2010 wasn't one of my best years. Then again, it wasn't all that bad either. I did, in fact, stick to my 'resolution' for 2010 and made the accomplishment I had promised myself. Here's a quote from one of my end-of-December posts of 2009:

"Oh, and if you are interested, one of my resolutions was to create my website where I can sell my photography. Well, I started that one early and began a free trial. My trial expires in 13 days. After I see if there's any interest, then I'll decide if I'm going to purchase the site for a year. No sense purchasing it if it isn't going to at least pay for itself."

Well, it did, in fact pay for itself. I got my money back and had a very, very small profit left over. Since that money was made mostly from a co-worker and my sister-in-law, I have doubts whether the site will pay for itself during 2011 or not, but I'll give it another year (as I promised myself at the beginning of 2010), and we'll see.

I also got my very first paid publication in the January/February issue of GRIT Magazine. Yes, I realize it was published in a 2011 issue, but the issue was printed in 2010. LOL

Anyway, what are my resolutions and goals for 2011? Well, I'm still thinking on that to come up with specifics, but they will involve some changes to the way I post on this blog, Flickr, and my website.

Enough about me!!! What about you? What are your resolutions, goals, or wishes for the new year??? Don't be shy - shout them out - then we can all encourage and support each other!

Camera-Critters #142

This photo is from my archives, but it has always been a favorite of mine. So, I'm posting it again. It's snowing here today, but I forgot to fill my feeders! So, I won't be seeing any of my beautiful birds in the snow today... unless they show up to protest my lack of responsibility and empty feeders.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!
May you have a truly special holiday season!

Tonight's The Night

(c) Misty DawnS

Tonight's the night! Tonight, the big man with the reindeer and the sleigh lands on the roof and causes a clatter! Tonight, after carefully placing a plate or cookies and mug of milk on the table, the children will lie in bed full of anticipation and excitement for the morning. Tonight, the parents will stay up late, wrapping up the last details to make Christmas day magical, before falling into a bed made up with anichini linens. Tonight, is a magical night.

Hubs and I will be enjoying some quiet time at home. It's snowing now, so we'll have a white Christmas. I must admit, it's very beautiful... especially since I don't have to drive in it. hehe

I'd like to take this moment to tell all of you how very special you are to me. Here on the internet, I've discovered some of the best friendships I've ever experienced. I am thankful for each and every one of those friendships.

May you all have a magical, memorable, and joyous holiday season.

Twelve Days of Christmas, Misty Dawn Style

I wrote the below little song as a joke at work, because everyone was commenting on my (and Hubs') bad luck during this holiday season. Everyone got a big kick out of it, and they told me to post it on my blog. So, here goes...

Macro Flowers *Petals of Pink*

Macro Flowers Saturday badge 1

In honor of my step-daughter, who is one of my very best friends, and who was married on December 4, I'm posting one of her favorite of my photos for Macro Flowers Saturday. She absolutely LOVES pink... everything pink. Of course, there was lots of pink stuff at the wedding... pink bridesmaid dresses, pink decorations, pink flowers, etc, etc. Yes, she loves pink, and she immediately fell in love with this photo. So, I gave her a print of this photo as her housewarming gift when she got her house.

I wish I had a high quality photo printer and ink cartridges to print my own photos, which would last like the photos from the professional printer.

PhotoHunt *Male*

PhotoHunters

The theme for this week's Photo Hunt is "Male". So, I decided to share a photo of a Male Cardinal with you. This photo was taken a couple years ago, and it's a bit blurry, but I was standing in a doorway, leaning up against one of my tv stands, and trying not to scare him away. I love his bright red against the blue sky. This photo also reminds me that I need to get my act in gear and get outside and fill my bird feeders so I can start seeing all the beautiful birds of winter again! However, things have been so hectic lately, I've just been busy paying attention to family matters. Hopefully, things will get back to normal soon... we'll see.

Camera-Critters #141

I wanted to wait until I actually had the proof in my hands. So, I kept my excitement to myself until now, because now, I have the proof in my hands. The below photo was taken after the 2007 ice storm in Missouri. The below photo is also published this January/February issue of GRIT magazine. The below photo is my very first paid publication! I didn't get much, and the photo is very small and amongst other readers' photos, but it's still my first paid publication. Here's hoping and praying for many more, since that is my dream afterall.

(c) Misty DawnS

And, before you make any jokes, let me tell ya that you aren't gonna get any breast milk outta this critter, as he's a Charolais bull, who was standing watch while the Angus cows ate hay in the pasture behind him. Watching out for his girls is what he was doing. ;-)

Have You Read These Books?

I've been Christmas shopping online. Actually, I've been Christmas shopping for myself online. LOL You see, I've got gift certificates to use, and so I've been perusing all the fun stuff I could get. I've been drooling over photography stuff, such as lenses, flashes, Photoshop CS5, and tripods, but that stuff is a bit out of my price range, even with the gift certificates. The same is true with the electronic gadgets I've been dreaming of, such as ipad, itouch, and Kindle... *sigh* I am such an electronics junkie!

Then, there are clothes, no, not plus size lingerie, but sweaters, leggins, boots, and shoes. Last, I sat drooling over books. Not only am I a technology gadget junkie, I'm also a book addict. That brings me to the point of this post. Yes, I know, it took me a long time to get around to it, huh?

I love mystery/thriller books, and I see that Amazon has had a series by Steig Larsson (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) on their bestseller and 'top picks' lists for a very long time. Right now, they've got a collection of the three books of the series on sale at 60% off.

So, I was wondering if any of you have read any of these books and what you thought???

Blogging Friends

If you've been following my blog for very long, you know that Tammy is my BBFF. Tammy lives in Canada and quickly became one of my best friends. It all started with a simple e-mail wherein I didn't know her, but wrote to ask her a few questions. I doubted that she'd even reply. Little did I know the spectacular friendship that would develop! Her kids, although they've never met me, call me Aunt Misty. She and I have sent gifts to each other. We've talked on the phone. Oh my, we've definitely spent hours talking on the instant messenger about everything from Christmas, boxing day sales, Thanksgiving, cooking, fishing, and so much more!

This time of year, when it's time to think about all the things you are blessed with in life, I can't help but be thankful for the internet. Yes, that sounds materialistic, but honestly, it's not. Without the internet, I wouldn't have made some of the very best friendships I've ever experienced. I can't list them all... some of these friends, I talk to on a regular basis and have developed lifelong friendships with, such as Bear, Tammy, and Barb. Others, I respect and admire, such as the photo-bloggers, such as Coy, Willard, and Kerri... and that brings me to all of my wonderful Flickr friends, which are too many to mention! Others, I've developed a special friendship with, which I know will always be there, such as Sandy, Anna, and Bridget. As I said, I can't list everyone, but please know that you ALL hold such a special place in my heart!

Glimpse of My Christmas Past

I've posted this photo before... quite a long time ago. And, I don't have a Christmas tree up this year for reasons I'd rather not talk about. Therefore, I decided to post this photo again to remember what some of my favorite ornaments look like hanging on my tree. You see, this serves two purposes. It not only gives me a glimpse of my tree, but it also reminds me of home, because of all the Ohio sports ornaments. Let's see... we've got Ohio State, Cleveland Browns, more Ohio State Buckeye ornaments, and... hmph, I don't see my Cleveland Indians ornament, but I have one of those too :-) I also have an Ohio State and Cleveland Indians stocking. A bit obsessed? O.K., maybe. hehe

(c) Misty DawnS

Since my favorite animal, other than dogs, is deer, I also have enough deer ornaments to decorate an entire tree, thanks to my family members. And, yes, I also have Border Collie ornaments. Surprised, aren't ya? I've even made my own homemade ornaments, not with rubber stamps, but with photo paper and clear glass ornaments. Those have been a big hit, and I've even sent some as gifts to some of my blogging friends.

I've been ill for the past few days, and I'm not really feeling the Christmas spirit, but I did, at least get my fishing Santa out, and he is proudly standing on my entertainment center. At least I got one decoration out for display.

SOOC Sunday *Centerpiece*

My Straight Out of the Camera Sunday entry is a photo of the centerpiece at my step-daughter's wedding reception. Everything was absolutely beautiful, and what's amazing and impressive is my step-daughter did everything herself, with the help of her mom and mothers-in law. They made all the centerpieces; they baked hundreds of cookies for the reception; they created cds of Christmas music for the guests. Yes, they did a LOT of work, but it all paid off, because everything was wonderful. Some people dream of being a doctor, teaching school, or writing car insurance quotes. My step-daughter's dream is to be a wedding planner, so she was truly in her element.

Camera-Critters #140

Yep, I got to see my brother the wolfdog (Matouk) last week! I'm not sure who was more excited to see whom, because when I walked in the door the first time, Matouk proceeded to stand on his hind legs (which makes him taller than I), put his front paws on my shoulders, and gave me a hug. After that, he kept constant tabs on me, and when I was gone for the wedding rehearsal dinner and the wedding, I was later told that Matouk was very grumpy. I think when Dad, Touk, and I are together, it makes Touk feel like his 'pack' is together... which is important to the wolf in him. Now... oh how I miss him!!! I wanna jump on a plane and go back to him!

My brother, the wolfdog...
I love when he curls up in a ball on HIS couch like this!
Maybe he needs some larger, modern furniture so he can stretch out. hehe

Looking at the Sky on Friday *Cotton Candy Clouds*

I'm late posting my Looking at the Sky on Friday entry, but I figure better late than never, right? It has been a hectic week. I've been trying to catch up on everything after being out of state for my step-daughter's wedding. Then, I got sick... which seemed inevitable, since so many people at work are sick. Now, I'm waiting for the cable guy. No, not the vga cable guy, but a cable guy, nonetheless, since we haven't had cable since Tuesday night... which means I missed my favorite shows last night, and I'm a bit bummed about that.

Regardless of everything else, here's my photo for Looking at the Sky on Friday. I took it the day before we left for the wedding.

Moments Like This

(c) Misty DawnS

This is one of my favorite photos from my step-daughter's wedding. This was taken after the wedding, during the time when the professional photographer was taking photos of the families and bridal party. Meanwhile, I was trying to capture some moments that she didn't have the chance to capture. During the wedding, I bet they were so nervous they needed hand dryers. hehe However, they were both ready to become husband and wife, and that truly showed throughout the whole day and night.

I'm VERY disappointed with the rest of my photos, as I'm not a 'people photographer' and therefore don't have the equipment for that type of photography. So, what I ended up with was a whole bunch of photos absolutely ruined by red-eye and eye-glare. So very depressing. It's not like I can re-do these photos. :-( I think I'll go pout for a long while...

I'm Baaaaaack... Physically Anyway

Maybe you didn't even notice, but I was away for a few days. I went back home to Ohio for my step-daughter's wedding. It was a beautiful and fun wedding, but the trip itself was way too short, and now I'm going through withdrawal from my friends and family, half of whom I didn't even get to see.

Going out to visit this time of year, I did get to enjoy some of that nice holiday and christmas gifts business! My aunt (she raised me), who is responsible for 80% of my current wardrobe surprised me with some beautiful dress clothes for work, and my husband, while shopping with his daughter, got me a gorgeous and warm, long wool dress coat to wear to the wedding and work. So thoughtful!

Now, I've got about 200 photos to work on and get ready to share. So, I'll be busy for awhile, but I just wanted to drop you a few lines to let you know where I've been... just in case anyone was wondering.
