Big Butterfly With Blue On It ~ Camera-Critters #181

***I'm having a giveaway of MyMemories Scrapbook Software Suite!!! Enter NOW!***

When preparing to create this week's Camera-Critters post, it suddenly dawned on me that I never showed you photos of "the big butterfly with blue on it" that I was photographing (per my secretary's orders) when I saw the Hummingbird Moth.

Well, what kind of blogger would I be to promise you photos and then not deliver? I guess I just got all wrapped up with the other critters which showed up at work, such as the Walking Stick. Don't let it be said that I promise photos and don't follow through. I present to you "the big butterfly with blue on it", also known as a female Tiger Swallowtail of the Black Variety.

She really is beautiful and deserves her own blog feature,
don't ya think?

My secretary especially like this photo.
So, I had to include it, since she's responsible
for my photographing such beauty.

Meanwhile, I'm gonna take myself and my sinus/ear infection
and take a nap! No Energy subwoofer speaker dealer for me for a little while - my head is swishing
and swashing, as it is.

Once Upon a Time...

I've really been slacking on updating my blog during the past few weeks. I keep telling myself that I'm going to work on revamping my blog on the weekends, but then the weekend comes, the weather is great, and I decide to spend my time enjoying the outdoors while we still have some nice days. *sigh* I'm such a slacker. ;-)

Why yes... I DID say "revamping" my blog. Thanks for noticing.

There are going to be some big changes, and I think that you'll really like them. Speaking of really liking things...

I was delighted and honored when the Fairy Hobmother visited me recently and so generously complimented me on my photography and blog! After reading that I was sponsoring a photography contest for this month, the Fairy Hobmother decided to help me out with a $50 Amazon give certificate!

So... tell me... if you were to be visited by the Fairy Hobmother and presented with a $50 amazon gift certificate... what would you use it for? What's on your Amazon wish list???

Seriously... sharing your wish with me might just get YOU a visit from the very generous Fairy Hobmother!

Red-Eyed Man ~ Camera-Critters #180

Another "lifer" for me!
I had never seen nor photographed a male Meadowhawk dragonfly.
I had, however, photographed a female Variegated Meadowhawk.

Well, last weekend, while at the pond (shocking, I know),
I saw a red dragonfly, and I immediately knew what it was.
We played a game of Tease...
it's kinda like "Tag", but the dragonfly is always it,
and lets you get just close enough to lift your camera
and then it flies away.

We played Tease for quite a while.
Then, finally, it let me have my wish...

Stay PUT! ~ Camera-Critters #179

(c) Misty DawnS

My very special friend (and country blogger) Susan claims that I am good at 'sneaking up on wildlife'. Well, I may be good at sneaking up on the critters, but I have also had experiences where they have come to or made themselves known to me.

The above photo is an example of this. I was back at the pond (surprise, surprise), and I decided to photograph a frog, who had been hanging out with me the whole time I had been fishing. While I was standing to photograph the frog, I heard this 'huffing' noise, which I've come to know very well, because I've heard it on previous occasions. So, I thought, "I know what that is." and I kept the camera to my eye as I slowly turned to photograph the maker of the noise.

The Whitetail doe continued to stare at me and 'huff'. I knew that there was a young deer nearby, and 'mama' was giving a warning. I later told my dad that I wish the 'huff' would have meant she was calling her young'un to her, but he clarified that she was, in fact, telling it to "Stay PUT!" Bummer.

P.S. When Hubs saw this photo, he commented that it looked like she was pointing, like a bird dog would do... tail straight, leg up. I agree, and I think that 'pointing' me out is exactly what she was doing!

Vernonia Baldwinii... Ya Know Her?

(c) Misty DawnS

(c) Misty DawnS

Well, I love flowers, especially wildflowers... and I love purple (really love purple)... so it's no wonder I LOVE these purple wildflowers. :-) Ironweed is the common name for Vernonia Baldwinii. Kinda sounds like a lady's name, huh? Ms. Baldwinii, but you may call me Vernonia. hehe... sorry, I'll stop now. Hey, lighten up... we're looking at flowers. Besides... we're looking at PURPLE flowers! It just doesn't get any better.

Now, go strolling through your fields looking for wild flowers (then you won't need auto collision estimating software), and then post your photos and join in Today's Flowers by clicking on the badge below. All the beautiful flowers are sure to make you smile. :-D

Catchin Any?

(c) Misty DawnS

I seem to be taking a lot of photos of frogs lately. It's hard to resist when they stick their cute little heads out of the water and smile at me while I'm sitting there holding my fishing pole. I half expect one of them to pop up and ask "Nice day! Havin' any luck?" Don't worry - that hasn't happened yet, and I'll be sure to let you know when it does. ;-)

Dandelion Dreams

(c) Misty DawnS

Apparently I have a thing for taking photographs of dandelions, which have gone to seed. My photo files are full of such photos... close-up, abstract macros... photos of a seed or two getting ready to blow away... photos of the full dandelion... Yep, apparently I am drawn to photograph them.

Lately, I've been in an introspective type mood and have even signed up for a couple classes to spark my creativity, discover my niche or style, and try to expand on my talents and my spirit. In fact, I've got the box cutters ready to open the shipment the mailman should be delivering soon. I ordered some printer paper, this book, this book, and a journal for one of the classes. The journal has a dragonfly on it (go figure, huh?) and says, "What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us." Pretty appropriate for what I want to gain from these courses. I'll let ya know how it goes.

Work Walking Stick ~ Camera-Critters #178

So, I was sitting in my office one morning, and one of my co-workers approaches my doorway, sees I'm on the phone, and, obviously disappointed, turns and walks away. Since I was already in the process of ending the phone call, I hung up, and went to see what she needed.

I guess I should no longer be surprised when my co-workers seek me out to tell me there's a critter waiting for me to photograph it...

This time...
a Walking Stick
was hanging out on the window
waiting for me.
Looks like he's advertising for the University, huh?
(c) Misty DawnS

The critter and I took time to pose together.
See me?
(c) Misty DawnS

Apparently, this Walking Stick just wanted to check its reflection.
Maybe it was concerned it was having a bad hair day?
(c) Misty DawnS

Oh yes, I'm looking rather dapper today.
(c) Misty DawnS

Now that I know I look O.K.
I can go on my way, and uhhhhh
perhaps find a place where....
I fit in a bit better.
Not many trees here on this helipad!

Froggy Friday

(c) Misty DawnS

in the hectic world called "life",
ya just end up feeling like
a lonely frog in a big pond.
But, I'm here to tell ya...
"HEY, Smile! It's Friday!"
