2011 In Review ~ Camera-Critters #195

It's that time again... time for one year to come to a close and another to bring a new beginning... new possibilities... new opportunities... new ideas... new memories... new CRITTERS!

Each year, I try to do a recap of my favorite critter photos, and the past few years, I noticed that there were months (aka winter) wherein I didn't take any critter photos. This year, however, I have critters from each month. Some of the months, it was just impossible for me to choose just one critter photo... so bear with me. :-)

I remember this photograph, because
it was taken when I had forced myself to
pick up the camera and go outside to fight the
withdrawals and depression of not taking any photos.

One of the "Hubs found something for me to photograph" moments!
And, what a great moment it was!
This is one of my favorite photos from the whole year!

I'm always delighted to see a flock of ducks visiting our pond!

We were blessed with some gorgeous weather in April,
and I actually got to go fishing! In April!
I observed these two love birds... I mean Meadowlarks
during my fishing trip at the pond.

I got my Hoya close-up filters in May, and
took a day off work to play!
While photographing dew drops,
I got a photo which was on my Life List.
A coyote in the wild!
(O.K. so my pasture doesn't seem so wild, but still!)

I have a blast with my macro filters.
Another first for me - a Slender Baskettail dragonfly.

2011 also brought the
13-year Cicadas to us!
How cool to see something that only comes around
every 13 years!
This is what you look like after a 13-year nap, Folks!

My birthday month brought another Life List moment.
An American Kestrel photograph!

During my birthday month, I also went back home to visit Dad
and my beautiful wolfdog 'brother'.

I celebrated the month of July with my new camera! WooHoo!
And, yet another Lifer for me!
An Ebony Jewelwing.

And, how could I forget the Tree Frogs of 2011!
I think we found at least eight of them In.Our.House!
I photographed this one after removing him from my kitchen
and taking him outside.

2011 brought me so many wonderful Lifer photographs!
Here's my first photograph of a
Spangled Skimmer dragonfly.
(c) Misty DawnS

During a windstorm, this little critter
was blown out of its nest and
proceeded to hop right up on my toes
and follow me around.

August brought more macro fun with
this Praying Mantis who was so considerate
to pose for many portraits.
They just radiate personality!

(c) Misty DawnS

Somehow... for some reason... I tend to find critters to photograph at work!
This Polythemus Moth was not only hanging out on the window
waiting for me to photograph it - it was also another Lifer for me!

(c) Misty DawnS

I just had to include another fishing acquaintance critter.
This doe had a young un' nearby and wanted to make sure
I didn't leave my fishing pole to get too close to her baby.

(c) Misty DawnS

Lifers GALORE for 2011!!!
A hummingbird moth!
I had JUST told my secretary THAT MORNING
that photographing one of these was on my Life List!

(c) Misty DawnS

Another work critter!
This Walking Stick was possibly considering
attending our university!

Have I mentioned that 2011 brought me many
first-time (Lifer) critters and critters on my Life List?
Well, let me say it again!
This male Yellow-Legged Meadowhawk dragonfly
was yet another of my Life List critters!

(c) Misty DawnS

Oh, how I love my dragonflies, and
oh how I love my close-up macro filters!

"Courage" is my word of the year for 2012, and
I decided to start working toward that word early,
when I got up-close and personal with one of my fears...
a wasp!

(c) Misty DawnS

It's a Yellow Rumped Warbler, but
I like to call it a "Butter-Butt".
Bet ya can tell why!

(c) Misty DawnS

October also brought me another beautiful bird.
A Harris Sparrow.

(c) Misty DawnS

We were blessed in October to have my step-daughter
and her husband come for a too-short visit.
Hubs bonded with his grand-doggy Pug.

(c) Misty DawnS

Hubs has been working on many projects during 2011.
One of those projects was moving an entire garage from one part
of our property to another.
Apparently, he had an audience.

I close this re-cap with a photo of the critters
who are the reason Hubs and I work so hard and
the reason I am here to experience and meet
Mother Nature's critters of the rural Midwest.

Thank you for taking the time to remember 2011 with me.
May the new year bring you
beautiful moments to create lasting memories,
dreams come true,
and realized life wishes!

Some great photos here. I really love the wolfdog!
