Heads or Tails *Tom, Dick, or Harry*

Heads or Tails has its very own home now! If you click on the link, it will take you to the awesome new HoT blog where you can sign up and start participating in this fun and popular meme!

Please forgive me for not having a HoT graphic this week. I'm posting this from the insurance agency, and, for some reason, I am unable to copy and paste graphics here.

This week's theme is "Any Tom, Dick, Or Harry". Boy, oh boy, am I really, really stretching it for this one...

Today, after work, I'm going to get my hair cut. I'm so sick of the way it is right now. However, I'm not sure how I want it to be cut. I had a cute short/pixie-type style picked out, but Hubs things I'm too hairy for that cut... meaning my hair is too thick. Well, he's definitely right about my hair being very thick... and I've got lots of it... which, I guess, would mean that I'm hairy.

So, I still haven't decided how I will have my hair cut, and my appointment is at 5 pm! I guess I better be deciding, eh? Tammy and I talked about it last night on the instant messenger, but we still didn't decide. Ya know, your BBFF is supposed to make these decisions for you, so you have someone to blame it on if it doesn't turn out right (hehe, just teasin' Tam).

Well, wish me luck! I have no idea what I'll be looking like after 5 pm this evening ;-) Oh, and in case you are wondering - my hairdresser is NOT named Tom, Dick, OR Harry! ;-)

Hehehehe, I told you I was really stretching it to match the topic for this week ;-) Sorry Barb... you'll forgive me, right?

Heads or Tails Tuesday *Mother*

Heads or Tails has its very own home now! If you click on the graphic above, it will take you to the awesome new HoT blog where you can sign up and start participating in this fun and popular meme!

As most of you know, I was raised by my paternal grandparents. They are the two greatest influences in my life. Although they are physically gone now, I still feel them with me every day.
My grandmother was my 'mother' in every sense of the word. Some of the moments when I very strongly feel my grandmother with me is when I am out taking photos of birds. She loved birds, and some of my favorite memories involve watching the birds with her. We even had a male Cardinal who would come to the windowsill at the same time every day to peck on the window. He would visit during my snack time. I'd be dipping my chocolate chip cookies in my tea cup filled with milk, and we would hear "peck" "peck" "peck. Grandma would say, "Our visitor has come for his daily visit." We then would go into the kitchen and say our hellos to the Cardinal. If we did not go into the kitchen to acknowledge him, he would continue to peck at the window until we came into the room.

Grandma also collected bird figurines and knick knacks. The kitchen windowsill was lined with those bird figurines that play that bird's song when you touch them. I loved being a rotten little girl and setting them all off at the same time. ;-)

So, when I am here in the new state going on my photo walks, and I get photos of birds that we didn't have in the old state, I find myself wishing that my grandmother were there to see this beautiful critter. Then, I am overcome with the sense that she is there seeing it with me. Or, possibly, she is the one who brings those birds to me to photograph.

Yesterday, she was definitely with me, and she was definitely smiling as I took these photographs and thought of her...

A Cat Bird. The Cat Bird was my grandfather's favorite bird.
They really do 'mew' like a cat. So, of course, Misty was standing in the woods meowing to this bird. I sure hope no one was around with a video camera.

I wish the photos were bigger, because you really need to see them full size to truly appreciate them.

*Special thanks for my buddy Bear for always taking the time to ID and teach me the real names of the critters I get photos of*

Heads or Tails *Direction*

ImageChef.com - Custom comment codes for MySpace, Hi5, Friendster and more

At our going away party, before moving to the new state, a very dear friend of mine, whom I refer to as my second father, asked, "Are you going to have an address out there?"

"Yep." I replied.

"Do you want to expand on that?" he asked.

I got my 'I'm rotten to the core and totally sarcastic' grin on my face and replied, "It's 1234 Highway Middle of Nowhere. Just turn left at the cow."

He pretty much called me a smart a*s and started laughing.

When my dad and I were making the trip to move me out here. We were just coming through an adjoining town, and there ahead of us was a giant cow. A great big giant cow standing in front of the town's auction barn. I burst out laughing and told my dad about my conversation with my second dad (dad wasn't at the going away party, but he could fully respect my sarcasm to my second dad, because my dad and second dad are best friends.... was that confusing?). My dad just got this big grin on his face and said, "Guess what Mist. You need to turn left here to head to your house!"

We were laughing so hard that we had to pull over to the side of the road before we could continue on our journey.

Now, whenever I work at the insurance company, I pass that cow. I always think of my dad and me sitting in the car laughing so hard we had tears streaming down our face, and it always makes me smile, as I "turn left at the cow" to head back to my house :-)

Heads or Tails *Express*

Heads or Tails has its very own home now! If you click on the graphic above, it will take you to the awesome new HoT blog where you can sign up and start participating in this fun and popular meme!

Today's topic is Heads - Express. Well, you'd be really disappointed if I didn't have a story to tell, wouldn't you. Yeah, just shake your head and make me feel better about my obsessed story telling. Pretend like you like it. hehe

As you know, my grandparents raised me. Well, when I was growing up, my grandpa used to tell my dad, "I just want to be sure she is able to express herself." Grandpa was certainly good at expressing himself; although, we usually called it 'the gift-of-gab'. I can remember being sent outside when he would be talking with a customer who had come to buy lumber. "Grampa, Gramma sent me to get you, cuz it's time for dinner.".... .... .... "Grampa! Gramma is gonna get mad if dinner gets cold!".... .... .... "Grampa! Please don't make me go back in there without you! I'm supposed to be bringing you with me!" hehehe - I love both of them more than I can possibly express to you. ANYWAY, Last week, I would have certainly made my grandpa proud, because I was involved in a half-hour long conversation, and I didn't even understand half of what was said.

There is a couple here in the new county who own quite a bit of land and an equipment dealership. In fact, they own the land across the road where I always photograph deer. Anyway, they are from Argentina. They are a fantastic and friendly couple, and I am always touched, because whenever they drive by when I am walking down the road with my camera in hand, they stop to talk to me. Here's the hitch - they have very strong accents. Well, to them, I'm probably the one with an accent. Anyway, a lot of the time, I have trouble understanding what they are saying to me. So, I don't want to offend my new friends, and I just smile and nod a lot. Well, last week, I was on a sunset-photo-walk, and they stopped to talk to me. Apparently, I agreed to work for them and didn't even know it!

You see, I came home in the dark after our roadside conversation, and told my husband about running into to them and always feeling embarrassed because I stink at understanding people with accents. The next day, Hubs went to their equipment dealership to purchase a part he needed.

The owner of the dealership turned to his wife and asked, "Do you know who this is?" She replied that she didn't. So, he introduced Hubs to her. According to Hubs, she immediately got a huge smile on her face and replied, "OH! Your wife is coming to work for us!" Hubs quickly figured things out and asked, "Oh really? Ummmmm So, when does she start?"

Apparently, I'm expressing myself when I don't even realize it!

Oh, and you didn't think I'd end this post without expressing myself in my most favorite manner of expression, did you? This is what I was photographing when this friendly couple, who are apparently my new employers, pulled up and started talking with me.

What will this mean for my blogging? I'm not really sure yet. I'll know more tomorrow, after I have gone to talk to them about the details. I'm not willing to give up the friends I have found here (see my previous post) or blogging. So, one way or another - you're stuck with me. Tomorrow, I will discuss what is exactly expected of me, what the hours would be, and what the pay would be. Honestly, if the pay is not enough, with the price of gas now, I can't afford to be driving there and back each day just so I can say "I have a 'real' job." So, we'll just have to see. Hmmmm, I wonder if they have leather office chairs. I guess that's a little much to expect for a farm equipment shop, huh? *sigh*

By the way - My friends - PLEASE read my previous post. I put forth extra effort to make sure my 500th post was extra-special.

Heads or Tails *Fool*

Heads or Tails has its very own home now! If you click on the graphic above, it will take you to the awesome new HoT blog where you can sign up and start participating in this fun and popular meme!

Today's topic is Heads - Fool.

Don't worry, I'm not going to ramble on and on through silly story throughout this post like I usually do.

April Fools! I lied - I AM going to tell you a story, and, as usually, I'll probably do my share of rambling too.

A few years ago, Hubs decided to play an April Fools joke on his sister. It began as a very simple joke, but, boy oh boy did it escalate into much more than we had anticipated.

On March 31 of that year, we drove to the adjoining state where my step-daughters lived to see my oldest step-daughter perform in a play for her drama club. The play was an Agatha Christy play, and Hub's daughter ended up being the one 'who dun it'. hehe

The next morning (April Fools Day), Hubs sent his sister an e-mail and told her that we had gone to see the girls the night before, and he was surprised to find out that the oldest daughter had gotten into some trouble (referring to the play - which sister-in-law KNEW we were going to see!).

Since I have an extremely difficult time lying, I stayed out of this. Well, I tried to.

That night, Hubs was outside working on the farm, and my sister-in-law called in a HUGE panic.
"This is horrible! Oh no, this is so bad, now her grandma is going to know and... oh no, this is bad" she stammered.

"What in the world are you talking about?" I asked.

She explained that she had typed a long e-mail to Hubs (her brother) asking about what had happened with oldest daughter. In the e-mail, she had also proceeded to ask if she was pregnant or if it was drugs, or what. She went on in the e-mail to say that she just couldn't believe that the oldest daughter was in some sort of trouble, because she was the child of Hubs who never did anything wrong.

After typing all of this out in an e-mail, naturally, she clicked 'Send'. The problem was, she accidentally sent it to her and Hubs' aunt... which is Hubs' mom's sister. Which meant that the phones were already being dialed to tell 'Grandma' that her oldest grandchild had gotten herself into some trouble.

I about fell out of my chair trying not to laugh. My sister-in-law was freaking out, because she was going to be responsible for 'ratting Oldest daughter out to her grandma'.

Then she asked me, "Misty? Is she pregnant? That's what it is, isn't it? Is she? Oh my gosh, I can't believe that now Mom is going to know!"

I couldn't help it, she was in such a panic, I had to make her feel better... but she just wasn't getting it.

"Sis-in-Law, listen to me. What is the date today?"

"It's April 1st! Who cares! I'm trying to talk to you about Hub's Daughter!"

"Sis-in-Law, LISTEN to me!!! Where did we go last night?"

"To see her play! What is your point???"

"It was an Agatha Christy whodunit play. Did you know that?" I asked.

"YES, I knew that! Misty, what is your point?"

"OK, work with me here. I'll ask you again... what is TODAY???"

She was really getting ready to lose her temper with me. Her voice started to rise, and then, all of a sudden it dropped, and she said "Ohhhhhh, I am SO going to get him for this!!!"

Later, Hubs called to personally thank his sister for making his simple little April Fools joke much more interesting than he had ever imagined it would be.

Today's topic is Heads - Surprise

S - Sunset.
On the most bland day, you can be rewarded and surprised with a glorious spectacle in the sky.

U - Underwear... yes, underwear.
When I was younger, my friend walked up behind her brother, yelled "Surprise" and pulled his sweatpants down. However, the surprise was on her, because he wasn't wearing any underwear!

R - Race
The ending of a race is a surprise, because it is an unknown outcome.

P - Puppy
Yes, when this puppy came into our lives, it was definitely a surprise. She continues to surprise me every day with her intelligence, speed, and ability to chew through and eat everything.
(c) Misty DawnS

R - Reasoning.
I have been very surprised by some people's reasoning for their actions or attitudes.

I - Idol
I was very surprised (and disappointed) that Amanda Overmyer was voted off American Idol. I could have sent four other contestants home before I thought she deserved to go!

S - Sony (the manufacturer of the new 'dream camera')
You're probably surprised that I chose a different camera to be my dream camera now. Maybe you'll also be surprised to hear that, nope, I still haven't ordered it.

E - Endings
I love reading books with surprise endings.

Heads or Tails *In The House*

One of my favorite bloggers, Skittles has started a Tuesday meme. It is LOTS of fun-so you'll wanna join us right away! If you click on the Heads or Tails logo - it will take you to the post to tell you more about the meme.

This week's topic is Heads - Any part of (or place in) a house.

This post probably won't be what you are expecting. You'll be required to use your imagination in order to fully appreciate this post. You see...

This will eventually be my new kitchen (complete with dishwasher)...

And this will be my new bedroom (Yes, I can call it mine, because my husband doesn't usually sleep in the bedroom).
Now, as I said, you must use your imagination. It really will be nice. My kitchen will have cornices over the windows (My daddy made the cornices for me), and they will be covered with a wallpaper border featuring a cow/barn/silo scene. I also purchased for my husband, the collection of Bonnie Mohr dairy cow collector plates - she is an amazingly talented artist. So, those plates will be displayed and tie in wonderfully with the border on the cornices.

The bedrooms' cornices will have a wallpaper border featuring a sunset scene with sheep in a pasture. The bathroom, which I couldn't get a photo of, will have the most awesome curtains. You see, before we moved, my dad's girlfriend surprised me with these curtains. They have lily pads, cattails, and dragonflies on them. They were intended to remind me of fishing with my dad, and that is exactly what they do each time I see them. Since she made them, we've been collecting little fishing/dragonfly/etc items to hang from the curtains' tiebacks.

So, that's the addition I keep referring to. Excuse me while I get technical... I've been checking my performance management software, and I've concluded that at approximately ... ummmm. Eventually, my bathroom will have four walls and heat again (I hope)... we'll have closets (wooohooo)... we'll have the proper insulation and doors (and our electric bill will go down - serious woooohooooo)... and... well, you get the idea. :-)

Heads or Tails *Love*

One of my favorite bloggers, Skittles has started a Tuesday meme. It is LOTS of fun-so you'll wanna join us right away! If you click on the Heads or Tails logo - it will take you to the post to tell you more about the meme.

This week's topic is Love.

Let me tell ya, today has been a pretty lousy day. I've had three disappointments today - one of which I feel like a complete idiot about because, like a big dummy, I got my hopes up and should have known better. So, nothing cheers me up more than the first and most important men in my life... the father figures. Yes, I love Hubs more than anything... well, almost - no one comes before my dad. Don't worry, Hubs accepts that - everyone accepts that, because it has always been that way.

So, here are two of the three most important men I ever had in my life (of course, Hubs is the third - but he's a funsucker and won't agree to my posting a photo of us on here, because he hates having his photo taken.):

Me and Grandpa
He was one of the two most influential people in my life (the other was Grandma)
And

Me and Daddy (Yes, I know my dad was a hunk - he still is!)
Check out my shoes - pretty awesome, huh? They even match my outfit!

Please forgive me for posting this so early - I found out that I have to go to work at the insurance company tomorrow. So, I hope you will also please forgive me for taking longer than usual getting around to everyone else's HoT posts tomorrow.

Heads or Tails *First or Last*

One of my favorite bloggers, Skittles has started a Tuesday meme. It is LOTS of fun-so you'll wanna join us right away! If you click on the Heads or Tails logo - it will take you to the post to tell you more about the meme.

This week's topic is Heads - First or Tails - Last.

I was only going to do the post on Misty's Words and wasn't going to do a HoT post on this blog this week... that was until the last few minutes I just experienced.

What was one of the first things you all learned about me? Do I hear 'she loves dogs'? Well, I just got ready to go let the dogs out for the last time tonight. I got my boots on and turned to the door to open it. There was a face staring in the window at me! That was the last thing I expected to see! It was a dog's face! Except... that dog-face did not belong to any of my three dogs! Last time I checked, my dogs are Border Collies. This was a Australian Cattle Dog (a breed which I love, by the way)! I ran and called Hubs to come look. He said "It's getting the door all muddy jumping on it! It's going to have to stop jumping on the door!" I said "What do you want me to do?" One last time, he said "Make it stop jumping on the door." So, I did what any obsessed dog addict other good wife would do to make the dog stop jumping on the door...
I put it in one of our buildings and gave it food! That'll probably be the last time Hubs leaves me to take care of a stray dog ;-) I'll post photos of my new the dog tomorrow, if it's still here - to put on the "Found Dog" posters, of course.

Heads or Tails *Who You Want to Meet*

One of my favorite bloggers, Skittles has started a Tuesday meme. It is LOTS of fun-so you'll wanna join us right away! If you click on the Heads or Tails logo - it will take you to the post to tell you more about the meme.

This week's topic is Tails - Who would you like to meet and why.

Well, you all know that I desperately want to meet (face-to-face) my BBFF Tammy. Why? Because she's fabulous - that's why! Because she makes me laugh out loud when I've spent the rest of my day in tears. Because we have some much in common and learn about more things we have in common every time we talk, which happens to be everyday. And, because we are going to laugh our booties off when we out-fish our husbands!

So, yes, I want to meet and hang out with this hot mama (she's on the right - doesn't she have beautiful eyes???) -
I would also love to meet and hang out with Stacey, Jen/Gi, Cat, D, and Bubba's Sis. And Barb. And Autumn. And... oh my, there are so many of my online blogging friends I would love to meet!

Oh, and I certainly would love to meet my very special friends from the forum where we talk about the Sara Donati/Rosina Lippi books and our lives in general. Robyn, Michelle, Soup, Judy, Kathy, Marg, Sally, Kenzie... Oh yeah - we'd have a blast, that's for sure! Heck, we'll have Rosina join us when we meet up - how cool would that be ?!?!

As far as celebrities - Oh just a few, such as Martina McBride, the entire crew of Bon Jovi, Jennifer Nettles, the entire Little Big Town band, Sheryl Crow, Tom Hanks, Robyn Williams, Julia Roberts, Hugh Laurie... yeah, just a few ;-)

And, someday, maybe I will meet up with my half-sister. I can explain to her why I never... why I couldn't, be there to meet her. Possibly, she already knows, but I hope that isn't the case, because that would mean she has felt and endured the same things I did. I sincerely hope it is different for her. Maybe it sounds completely illogical, but I hope that she has no idea why I have never been around, because if she does know and understand, then it means she has been through it too.

This week's topic is Heads - Any of the Five Senses (Hear, Touch, Smell, See, Taste). Well, I'm doing ALL of them! Oh Yes, I am - except, I'm doing three on this blog and two on my other blog!

Flowers for SMELL - Oh how I miss the flowers!
I can't wait to be able to take flower photos again!

Bird is for HEAR (actually, this is a Robin - the first sign of Spring - unfortunately, it will be awhile until I see one of these again!) I love to hear the birds singing
Mother's Milk is for TASTE (Mokey and her kittens. Yes, these are the same ones who were staring at me through the hole in the barn wall)
