Camera-Critters #19

This is what happens when a Border-Collie-Mommy gets frustrated because she can't open Camera-Critters for people to sign in, gives up, and sneaks out early to go for a walk, without properly notifying the 'Watch Crew'.

"Taaaaaaag! Hey Tag! Come quick!
There's someone coming down the road!
Seriously Taaaaaaag! There's someone coming!"

Camera-Critters #18

So, there was this husband, who always claimed his wife was overly-critter crazy.
"Yep, she can't resist any critters. She's a big softy." He would say.
Yet, throughout their seven years of marriage (as of this month),
the wife discovered that said husband was just as much a critter-crazy fool as she.
So, when said husband come home with some speckled eggs one day,
what was the wife to say?

"I couldn't leave them out there in the middle of the field." He explained.
The mother had left them, she wasn't coming back, and Mr. Undercover-Softy
felt responsible.

So, in a box the eggs were placed.
Wife and Hubs both doubted anything would happen,
but they had to try.

So, wife came home after a long day at work and walked into the kitchen.
As she was standing there, she heard some chirping.
She thought... could it be? No, I'm crazy. I must have heard a bird outside.
But, she decided to peer over the side of the box anyway...

WAIT!!! The chirping IS coming from the box!
More specifically, it's coming from an egg with a hole punched in it!

So, she quickly ran to her computer and announced in instant messages to
two of her best buds (*waving* Hi Tam! Hi Bear!) that one of the eggs was hatching.
"Take pictures!" Was Tam's reply, while at the same time,
the message box from Bear was blinking, with the message
"Take pictures!" typed in it.
So...
Wife stood tippy-toed on a pile of miscellaneous things
she found throughout the house and had piled up to allow her to get a
'birds-eye view' (pardon the pun)... and...
she took pictures!

Yup! Definitely something punching holes in that there egg!

"YUP! I knew it! There WAS someone in there!"
"Hi! I'm Ling. I was born yesterday. You come here often?"

"Dang Ting! I mighta been born yesterday, but you think this woman knows
what temperature this should be at?"

"Ummmm LINGGGGG! LING!!! Could you PLEASE get offa me?!?!"
"Geesh, you've been picking on me ever since I came outta that egg!"

Camera-Critters #14

I met this critter while walking down the road earlier this week. As I was walking along, I saw this critter come out of the ditch on one side of the road and start making its slooooow trip to the other side of the road. So, I knelt down, introduced myself to P.T. (that's its name... short for Painted Turtle, of course), shot a few pictures, and then carried P.T. over to the other ditch, because I wanted to make sure this critter didn't make the acquaintance of one of those big, shiny things with rubber wheels. I then continued on my walk, and when I returned to the spot where I had left P.T., I smiled, because P.T. had continued on the journey (probably to our pond).

Camera-Critters #13

Molly, the most beautiful Harley babe ever, would like to wish everyone a very
Happy 4th of July!
She, Tag, and Maggie would like to give some advice on how to fully and properly
enjoy the weekend.
So, break out the flags, pay tribute to our country, and don't forget to smile ;-)

Ball sports are always a great way to enjoy a holiday...

Use this quality time to reinforce the lessons and values you want the kids to learn and carry with them, such as how to share with others...

After a long time of playing ball on a hot day, go for a swim. It's a really good idea to keep the ball with you at all times though... you never know where one of those ball-nappers may be lurking!

Most importantly, put aside any daily differences or disagreements, and
enjoy the time with your family and loved ones

If it rains, just pop some tunes into that stereo system in the audio racks and enjoy some indoor time.

Camera-Critters #12

I'm quite pleased with this photo. What I'm particularly pleased with is the composition - how the dragonfly decided to rest on a pretty flower, and how the flower is showing through this Blue Dasher Dragonfly's wing. I saw it land on the flower, so, I sat down on the ground and continue to inch closer to it. I would take a photo (so I could avoid the regrets of missing the shot if it happened to fly away), then I would scoot myself a little bit closer, take another photo and scoot closer. Eventually, I ended up with this shot. I bet you are all now picturing me sitting on the ground scooting on my butt through the weeds with a camera to my eye *giggle*

Yesterday, we took my step-son to the airport in Kansas City so he could fly back home. Then, we went to some stores, since there aren't stores around here. We went to a Best Buy and a Circuit City, and I ~~drooled over~~ held the 'dream camera' in my hands. I ~~caressed it and said sweet nothings to it~~ explored it's menus and functions and was even able to
take some photos with it and compare it to several other cameras. Now, I am confident it is the camera I want. I know I will have a learning curve if I ever do get a dslr, such as settings, depth of field, lighting, and composition. However the first step is making sure you get a camera which feels good in your hand - a camera you feel comfortable with... I've found that camera... now, I just need to figure out how to get it from 'living' at the store to being a permanent extension of my hand ;-) I'm still saving every extra cent I get (when it doesn't have to go to bills). I even passed on buying any birthday gifts for myself (Yes, it was my birthday on Thursday - I am now 33 years old), because I wanted to save money towards the camera. G, I sound a bit like I'm feeling sorry for myself, don't I? I don't like when I sound selfish or greedy, so I'm going to shut up now - enjoy the beautiful dragonfly.

Camera-Critters #11

No, you don't have to tell me that this is not a critter. I'm very well aware of that.
However, this was created by critters and there will be baby critters in it.

You see, I was innocently trying to get a photo of these beautiful birds, better known as Baltimore Orioles. I was very surprised that they were not flying away like they always had in the past. Instead, they kept flying back and forth above my head and chattering at me. When I finally saw that nest, I realized that, DUH! They were trying to tell me to get away from their nest.

Now, you are probably wondering what the following photo is all about. I mean, it's not a good photo at all, right? You are EXACTLY right! It is NOT a good photo. It is my reason #752,021 why I need a professional DSLR with better-quality zoom lenses. You see, if I had that, you would be able to see those two birds, which I think are hawks... but I'm not really sure, cuz I didn't have that spectacular zoom lens (*wink*)....... *sigh*

Camera-Critters #10

(Camera-Critters Capture Corny Caption - "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.")

This, my friends, is one of my favorite photos I have ever taken. You see, last year, I continually saw these giant, gorgeous odonatas, whose technical name is "Common Green Darner" (Did I get that right, Bear?). However, I was always frustrated because I could never get a photo of one of these beauties, because they would just fly around like bright-blue mini-helicopters, and it seemed they would never sit still long enough for me to capture them in a photo. So, when I got this shot, I was practically skipping and doing cartwheels down the road on my return home (OK, maybe I was skipping, but there's not witnesses to testify to that). Anyway, this may just be a photo of a "yucky bug" to many of you. But, every time I look at it, I'm full of pride.

That's why I love it here. I love the very rural surroundings and the nature around me. It makes me happy to no end to know that I could just go outside with my camera and sit on my patio furniture and lose myself watching the birds, the insects, and the critters.

Now, if only the weather would cooperate! We have flood warnings/watches all over. I don't think we have had a full 48-hours without rain for over a month! In fact, today is supposed to be a very nice day. However, guess what is supposed to happen tomorrow... Yup, thunderstorms. UGH!

Camera-Critters #9

Yesterday was a long, hectic, and stressful day at work. So, my mind was wandering as I was driving down our road, almost home. Then, I saw something crossing the road up ahead, almost by our driveway. I thought, "Darnit Mokey - you worry me when you won't stay out of the road!" Then I thought - Whoa, something is wrong, because Mokey is walking really weird. My heart started beating faster as I worried that my kitty might have been hit or injured. (Yes, I still love her like crazy, even though she does have an attitude hehe). As I got closer, I breathed a sigh of relief when I realized it wasn't my pet after all. Then, I grabbed the cell phone, called the house, and told Hubs to come outside. Here's who was crossing the road...

(Corny Caption -Geesh, you can't even go lay your eggs in peace around here.)

Then, I thought I'd go out for a walk today and see if I could get any shots I would want to use for Camera-Critters. That's when I found this big ~~guy~~ girl. There are snapping turtles EVERYWHERE! When I drive to and from work, I see them along the road. We think they must be going to lay the eggs.

We all know a hundred reasons why the chicken crossed the road, but, I ask you -
Why did the Snapper cross the road?

I doubt they are 'running' to the store to get some Orovo detox. If I get many funny captions or "Why did the Snapper cross the road" answers, I'll do a post of all of them to reward my witty friends with some linky love.

Camera Critters #8

By popular demand... well, the demand of Tammy and Hubs, I HAD to post this photo for the Camera-Critters post on this blog this week. I certainly wouldn't want to go against the wishes of the man I vowed to spend the rest of my life with AND one of my very best friends!

You see, I came home and was very excited about some close-up bird photos I took. So, I was showing Hubs my photos, and, as I was scrolling through them, he stopped me at this horse photo and went all crazy over this photo and kept telling me how good it is, as I sat there insisting that he was NOT paying attention to the photos which I thought were even better. Nope, I couldn't get his attention off of this one. Then, I e-mail a bunch of pics to Tam, and was telling her over the instant messenger about these birds that let me get SO close to get photos. What happened? She starts sending me these excited messages over the IM about how great 'that horse photo' is! *smacking forehead now* So, just a minute ago, I was chatting with her again, and I said I was trying to decide which photos to use for my CC posts this week, and Tammy replied "THE HORSE!" Geesh, don't get your ostrich feathers in a ruffle Woman, I'm posting the horse! (hehehe)

Sky Watch Friday

The sky wasn't very exciting, but what was sitting in front of the sky was exciting, in my opinion. Hubs and I had both seen these neat birds recently, and we had even asked each other about them. When we concluded that neither one of us knew what kind of bird it was, Hubs said, "Another one to ask Bear about." (Hubs, thinks my friendship with my critter-identifying buddy, Bear, is a pretty special friendship.) So, for almost a week, I have been attempting to get a good shot of these birds so I could send them to my buddy. Finally, on my way home from work yesterday, this one was posing on one of the fence posts when I turned onto my road.

Of course, Bear ID'd the Inland Sandpiper for me. (Pretty soon I'll be able to snatch that pebble, eh Bear?) :-)

In this pic, the bird looks like he's standing up to give a speech or something. Maybe he's going to give a diet pill review. Yes, I realize that was very, very, very corny... but, hey, at least the photo is pretty neat.

Camera-Critters #7

I was on one of my evening walks when I notice this little critter lying near the side of the road. It wasn't moving, and my heart started beating faster, because I feared it had been hit. When I approached, I saw that the bunny wasn't dead, but it still wasn't moving, so I was concerned it may be hurt. I made the executive decision that I would just need to bring it home and nurse it back to health... I mean, there really is no other choice when a critter-lover is faced with such a situation, ya know. Besides, Hubs couldn't complain that this little bitty bunny would be too hard on our checking account. So, I stood there for awhile, devised all of the logical and sensible excuses, which I would recite when I came home with yet another pet, and then I bent down to pick it up... which is when it went racing off into the grass, turned around to wiggle its nose at me, and then went bounding through the field. First, I called it a brat for tricking me, but actually, I was just glad it wasn't injured.
